Send our players back to Lennoxtown as soon as possible

985

I know what you are worried about after last night’s Scotland performance, “He’s going to throw James Forrest in now.”  My feeling on the matter is that James, Callum and Kieran all need to ‘work on their fitness’ a bit.

Since managing Scotland for a few months in 2007, a period that included a 0-1 win in Paris, Alex McLeish has been found out in five subsequent appointments, ending ignominiously in North Africa.  He has the look of what he is, a man earning enough to make good on a tax bill that recently came his way, and nothing else.  Nice gig if you can get it.  He also selects players who are banned for life from the national team.

Scotland have the players to beat the 94th team in the world but were not sufficiently competent to fix up a manager who already lives in the country but manages in Belfast, or conduct an adequate search for an alternative.

The result of this, is that fans stopped caring, as do many players, by the look of it.  I don’t know a single person who was upset last night, the Scotland international football fascination is over.  The once great endeavour of football as a self-contained unit in Scotland is over, everybody knows it.  Send our players back to Lennoxtown as soon as possible, please.

  1. CALL ME GERRY on 12TH OCTOBER 2018 2:44 PM

I am sure there may have been some Celtic minded fans at the Scotland game, they would fall into the new wave category who cant possibly believe what has gone on in the past.

I remember reading a statistic that the ENTIRE Lisbon Lions in total, had less caps than Tom Forsyth and David Weir, combined, neither of whom were stand outs.

Maybe my memory is playing tricks, but would that be the Scottish set up that gave all time record goalscorer ( 485 ) Jimmy McGrory 7 full caps and 7 league caps, played anyone with a pulse instead of Billy McNeill and moved the greatest full back in the World out of position.

Add to that constant abuse of Celtic players over the years, and you have all reasons you need to understand why some of us are less than patriotic.

    Paul 67 is spot on.

  2. There are no shortage of pundits willing to put the boot into Brendan and Celtic, its very disappointing to hear a Lisbon lion lining up beside the Boyds and McCullochs of this world.I don’t know a lot about Arzani but I have watched some Australian football on BT and in my opinion it is of a very poor standard.I don’t know the ins and outs of this deal but I would trust Brendan`s judgement before Willie Wallace.

  3. ….. and as for tonight’s games I hope that both Croatia and Greece (among others) win. Croatia because of their opponents, Greece as they are my selection in Last Man Standing 11, and ‘among others’ to complete my 6-fold!

  4. Having lived in Engerland for a very very long time, I used to follow Scotland it’s just something you do as the Engs love to take the piss. I’ve lost countless bets in them. As I’ve got older the deterioration is now so bad I don’t bother anymore. We briefly came close against the Engs and should have qualified last time. There does seem to be a seachange at the SFA now where Celtic players are now seen as scapegoats. Interesting how little attention has been given to Soutter for getting sent off.

  5. Oh and McLeish. I’ve got 2 good leftbacks and don’t know which to pick. I know, I’ll play them both out of position. Genius.

WDH, I’m going to Leeds tomorrow to try one of these Ivy Restaurants that has just opened up. Have you been in one?

  7. Maybe I am being defensive, but, was KT’s OG, the ‘winning goal’? It was 2-1. Did both ‘their’ goals not count? The media seem to think KT’s counted more!

  8. BADA BING!! on 12TH OCTOBER 2018 5:56 PM

    DILLIGAFBHOY- good point, re Souttar

The only defence he has is. Well I get away with it everyweek in Scotland. That’s him been sent off twice in 2 games. He’s a prick.

  9. JIMTHETIM53 –

When a game is tied at 1-1 and 1 more goal goes in I think it’s universally accepted that we refer to the 3rd goal as the “winning goal”. So, yes, KTs own goal was the winning goal. We do need to pick our battles here ;-)

  10. Big Packy, Finally found my pic of wee Donny the pup! Thank you it’s beautiful. Goodness knows how the pic got to me, halfway round the world I think. Cheshire, Svantskyland (SP) , Toronto, Swindon.

Cheers everyone. I need cheering up!

  11. This rather long podcast on E Tims is relevant in terms of SFA reform and the now diminishing hope that Res12 might have played a part in it.

    http://etims.net/?p=13509

It reminds folk that all Res12 asked for was an investigation into the processing of the UEFA licence granted to Rangers in 2011.

It covers the ground up to this time last year when SFA finally conceded after court testimony that the licence stopped being a liability before end of March 2011 and asked the Compliance Officer to investigate.

Things went into purdah until May when the Compliance Officer laid charges of dishonesty but the response from Rangers raised eyebrows and questions that have still to be answered.

UEFA are investigating after a Red Star Belgrade official bet 5 million euros that PSG would beat Red Star by 5 goals in their recent CL game …. which game Red Star, in fact, went on to lose by 5 goals – 6-1.

  13. Folks, i would like to share the below link, what you will see on first viewing is an absolutely stunning goal. What you will also see is passion, engagement, excitement, all in a modern stadium. Contrast this with what we have in Scotland, years and years of pandering to the huns has resulted in many people becoming disinterested because they have been let down time and time again by the Blazers. It is a scandal that neither the SMSM or the Politicians are willing to call it out for what is it. It is time to dismantle the SFA and and start again, will anyone be bold enough to go there? Sadly i very much doubt it.

Speaking to Jobo the other week, I said that I thought that the anti-Scotland feeling was really an anti-SFA sentiment. I would guess that the majority of those who have turned their backs on the Scotland Football team still favour Scotland in rugby, for instance, and support Scottish sportsmen and all other sports ( Huns excepted, of course).

Sounds like the message has gone out to say that it’s a young, inexperienced team. Can’t blame the manager.

Imagine if Ronny Deila had tried to blame the weather and said he was going to bring on a player who was already on.

  16. by the way ,big big thanks to bmcuw and hravtski jim, without which those pics would never have taken place.hh.

  17. I have a bit of sympathy for the Willie Wallace comments.

I may not have persobnalised them towards Brendan rodgers as I don’t know enough about the internal politics of our club to do so.

    But…….

    Daniel is 19 years old.

He was good enough to be selected and played by Australia in a WC Finals

He was deemed good enough to be signed for Man City’s Development squad and they can pick and choose from among the very best young talents.

Celtic negotiated a lengthy loan deal for the boy and have not just left him unplayed but publicly hinted at his deficiencies in being ready to play.

Whoever is responsible for individual parts of this mess, the club, as a whole, have collective responsibility for knocking the development path of this talented player off course.

If we did not htink he was ready to contribute to our squad this season (and I know we have a long way to go in the season but he is also very far out of the picture) then we should not have taken him on loan and let Man City find a club that is willing to play him.

This is not the same as the Musonda signing. Charly Musonda was wanted by our manager, he was played by our manager, and he was not good enough to get as many games as he felt he should have had. Musonda was not frozen out- e just had too big an ego.

I have not seen Arzani in the reserves and, maybe he is not setting the heather alight and maybe he is disillusioned by his treatment. Either way, he has taken a step downwards in going from A-League football to Scottish Development League football.

If there are no signs that he is being deemed good enough to be a contributor to our top team squad by November and December, the best we could do for him is to send him back to City and let them find a club willing to help him develop.

With Tom Rogic, we could afford to slowly develop his talent and to transfer his skills from fussball to football because we owned his signing.

Whether it is Brendan’s fault or Peter’s or a combination of faults by many people, we are nearing the time where we need to give this guy his career back.

  19. It’s a ‘ironic’ that when the super sizzling Sun contacts a Lisbon Lion it develops into a stitch up . Willie Wallace, I’m sure is just as expert with his opinion on cap calls for the Lisbon Lions?, and he knows all about bias and bigotry, ( see his book ) as well as he knows about Dan Arzani.

None of Scotland’s ‘leading’ red tops would dare ask pertinent questions, least not whilst they are too busy driving the “ Brendan is for the off ” campaign, now in full swing since the summer.

After all they never asked Jock Stein who was handed a slip with the names of all the eligible Rainjurz players when he took over Scotland.
