SFA-Ogilvie statement of inaction while SPL split looms

687

SFA president, Campbell Ogilvie, today issued a statement through the SFA website amid a growing clamour for action over the on-going controversy over the alleged improper registration of players at Rangers during the time he was company/general secretary and director.

It will be an enormous disappointment to the BBC journalist who gave him solid backing only yesterday, to hear the president admit that he benefited from the now-infamous Employee Benefit Trust (EBT) scheme, however, this will not be news to any of you.  Without wanting to be cynical, this feels like we are being fed a completely irrelevant headline while the real matter at hand was yet again not addressed.  Perhaps we should be grateful the gratuitous but irrelevant headline didn’t involve the Krankies.

Ogilvie completely refused to acknowledge or address the question of improper registration of players, instead referring to an incomplete list of his duties at Rangers.

The SPL split will happen in 25 days at which point fixtures will be arranged for the top and bottom six in the league.  This issue has to be investigated, reported and perhaps appealed all the way to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, before then.  Kilmarnock, Aberdeen and St Mirren are currently battling for seventh place, if it was found that Rangers played improperly registered players this season, they could stand to lose enough points to demote them to the bottom half of the table.

The SFA cannot continue to sleep on the job.  While Ogilvie’s position as president is important, he is a sideshow to enabling Scottish football to finish the season on time.

The SFA, the SPL, the game itself is in enormous crisis. Michel Platini, where are you? How bad does it need to get before you get involved?

what a night in Jordan. hard to put into words how i feel. the company arranged for 5 guys to play a local team at an all weather pitch that was given to the locals by the queen. we turned up & there was atleast 100 locals there to greet us. I spent about 15 minutes talking to the kids about Celtic, Football & what players they loved. we lost 5-4 & i scored the goals, not only were the crowd cheering our goals the kids were shouting celtic celtic when i got the ball, 1 kid even removed his football shirt the team was wearing to show me a celtic home top with samaras on the back. what a great reception we recieved from the people here & we were all surrounded at the end with kids and adults shaking our hands. The people here tonight were awesome & the celtic family grows & grows. proud to be a tim.

Problem with their administration is that the directors of Rangers didn’t inform the Financial Services Authority (FSA) before going into administration as they should have. D&P have now notified the FSA and have applied to Court of Session to get their appointment as administrators re-ratified on Monday 19th March.

    Thanks for this.

Mistake? Or deliberate? Whyte was hurried into administration more quickly than he wanted by HMRC’s actkion on the Tuesday. Was this his way round it I wonder?

Was the Fri 16th deadline set knowing that they weren’t in administration and hoping that a bid by that date would save them from admin on Mon 19th and get them their 10 points back?

Didn’t happen bud for many reasons, you and the family are always welcome here. Moving home shortly so loads more room.

  14. I notice there’s another one of those ‘clutch at straws’ groundswell of opinion regarding today’s revelations re the FSA and all things administration.

Well, here’s my grabbing a lead weight weight take on it.

Rangers are in administration. And whats more is that by not notifying the FSA, they have broken FSA rules.

What’s even better, is that by reapplying for a back-dated administration, with the requisite paperwork-nod to the FSA and also a little addendum as to who’s doing the appointing, they have opened themselves up to a challenge (of incompetence?) from HMRC (or any other creditor **cough** Dundee Utd or Hearts getting stiffed whilst a sneaky deal with Dunfermline goes through).

Why would this be like grabbing at a lead weight?

Well, as stated, they are in administration already, a somewhat coerced but still voluntary administration on the basis that they were being swamped with debts. They entered administration to gain protection from their creditors – a horrid thing to do, but it’s in the rules, so it’s actually ok, apparently.

Imagine, if you will, that someone was to challenge the new (and improved) administration order and apply for an administration order of their own for the recovery of moneys due, i.e. the basis of appointment would be firmly focused on the creditors not being shafted as they currently appear to be. A polar opposite type of insolvency event (although technically speaking they should in fact be the same – for the best outcome of creditors).

    Imagine that, eh?

A second, very much different from the first, insolvency event occurring at the Barad-dur. Anyone care to remind me what the SPL rules state about disparate insolvency events in a single season?

  15. Ifffff the documents have been shredded ……. are there legal requirements for keeping such documents? Are there penalities for being unable to produce them when required?

Re Amoruso & Goram’s fines and wages. Amoruso’s letter seems more damning to me. Like someone who didn’t want to lie but couldn’t tell the truth. the Goram 1000 per week could be neither here nor there to me.

    Paul67,

Thanks again for providing this wonderful forum which, along with your own great work, is keeping the pressure on.

    Hope to meet up soon.

I’m doing 12 weeks here at a time so hoping when im back in June for 2 weeks i can get as many as possible to take back. I got around 35 Celtic shirts for a mate to take to India 5 years ago.

  18. Will Rangers defence against the improper registration of players simply be that it was an oversight? They seem to be flagging up the idea that the EBT’s were not hidden – I don’t know if that is actually true, their accounts have been pretty opaque over the years – perhaps this is the foundation of their case – ‘we didn’t hide the EBT’s, you should have questioned us at the time, Campbell told you about it, you still accepted registration – ball back in SFA/ SFL court. Waters sufficiently muddied the MSM can go about painting this as persecution of rangers.

Is that fanciful? Is it plausible? Could they wriggle off the hook in this way? Is this what they are at or are is it just each man for himself as he tries to ensure they can continue to live in Scotland without being known as the person responsible for getting titles and trophies stripped from the record……

It will be interesting to see how it unfolds. If it isn’t favourable to justice then I suspect it will get very very messy.

Thanks for letting me know. Shame really because I can’t see any way that HK could have come back from that given his robust defence of Ogilvie at the beginning of the programme before any caller had a chance to make a point.

I missed him telling another caller to ‘shut up’ – shocking.

They aint, I can assure you.

  22. There is another possibility regarding the administration debacle. Are agreements over pay that have been reached still valid? Could the players yet be well and truly stiffed by Duff and Duffer shortly after they get the big payday on 25th March?

  23. Can hardly keep up……….astounding support from Chic from the cuurent controversial ‘currant’……and all courtesy of the ‘national’ broadcaster too!

I did see your good news the other day and left a comment but i dont get the chance to read back i just get on once in a while at the moment. Will be great to catch up over a few pints.

  25. Paul,

how long do you think the (k)nightly phone ins can survive ? The presenters are getting bluer by the day.

The basic formula was built on giving good news about Enron United of Govan and having a go at any “Timmy” who dared call.

Now is it 2 hours of mayhem. No good news – even the made up stuff is exposed within 24 hours. Then to top it all the Timmys who phone in are actually educated enough to be lawyers – surely not.

The point where the bosses pull the pulg must be close.

The day that happens I’f like to suggest a headline story of “The battle is over the bampots have won”.

I live in hope that we are close to the end of Enron United and SSB.
