Shiels has history on his side tomorrow

923

It would be easy for Celtic to take their eye of the ball.  A huge Scottish Cup game at Tannadice last week, which was more difficult than the score-line suggests, before Neil Lennon had what will have been a few traumatic days.  The tension in the west of Scotland ahead of next weekend’s game at Ibrox is already tangible; in truth, we could do with some quiet preparation time ahead of tomorrow’s Scottish Communities League Cup Final against Kilmarnock.

Kilmarnock have no such worries.  The Cup Final tomorrow is their season.  Out of the Scottish Cup and certain to finish in the bottom six of the SPL, their focus will be absolute tomorrow.  Kenny Shiels’ team have won only four league games since October  but you will not need me to tell you two of those victories were against Rangers.

Two home wins within six days against Rangers and Aberdeen, the latter on 3 December, suggested Killie were certain to challenge for a European place this season, but things have moved south since then.  They beat St Mirren on 2 January at Rugby Park before that impressive performance dumped Rangers on their bums at Ibrox last month.

Kenny Shiels made it onto Radio Scotland during the week to tell the nation that Celtic were so good it would be a travesty if they didn’t win the treble.  I totally agree (and I’m warming to this guy) but Kenny knows exactly what he is doing.  He intends to win the cup tomorrow and will know every potential weakness in the Celtic team.

History suggests he has a decent chance.  Since winning five consecutive finals (until 1969), Celtic competed in 20 finals, winning only seven.  We have some form to make up in this tournament.

  1. Really hope Stokes plays from the start tomorrow as he deserves to IMO.

Hooper off the boil recently but will shine tomorrow also.

Hope also Sammy gets himself a goal as he has the potential to run them ragged if he is up for it and show Lenny some thanks for putting his trust in him.

Green brigade we need you also to do your bit as well as all the lucky Bhoys and Ghirls in attendance.

From afar all Tims worldwide have a great day and remeber “this is just the beginning”

    Hail Hail.

No secrets mate. Just that I got him a ticket for one of the Ibrox games last season and had noticed he hadn’t posted in a while. I hope he is well.

  3. CultsBhoy loves being 1st on

I have a good feeling about tomorrow – I think we will win by at least 2 goals..but even if the unthinkable happened – I’m relaxed. It was always about the SPL for me..

  4. Clashcitybhoy,

Fair enough but we can’t sign everyone.

We have an amazing young squad at the moment. They will win the title and I hope go far in Europe. Were we to cash in now on Kayal, Ki, Ledley, Wanyama, Forrest, Mulgrew, Matthews, Hooper, Izzaguirre we would make about 40million clear profit. That is good scouting by any sane measure.

I said 12 months ago I would love to see Russell in the hoops and still would but he would cost a similar amount as Stokes did. As someone noted earlier, Stokes will be trying to score his 40th Celtic goal in 74 games tomorrow. That is superb.

Anyway, enjoy the game tomorrow mate, nice chattin

For the record Rory McIlroy attended St Patrick’s Primary Schoolin Hollywood. He then transferred to Sullivan Upper with the majority of his P7 classmates.Sullivan Upper is a co-educational, inter-denominational, voluntary grammar school.

Henrik Stenson, the Swedish golfer, had a mental Celtic supporting caddy for a while. He knows a song or two and is also a pal of our Henke. I always look out for his score, good bhoy!

  7. I just had a frightening vision of CQN post Rankers – Posters talking about Golf and what religious domination / political persuasion a golfer may or may not be. I’m so concerned I’m off to break the piggy bank and save Der Hun. Lord save us from politic-golf debates the game itself is silly enough.

It may not be a sport in your world mate but you can play the same courses that most of the tournaments are played on (as an amateur)

There’s not many other sports you can do that!

I suppose I was talking about the “Province”.

    DBB.

Nor being mischievous. Just think Rory is an extremely well raised young man. He is young and it seems his patents have kept him insulated from the darker aspects of life in the North. I for one think that is a good thing. I’ve chosen to raise my children the same way. We must not forget the past. But we can’t live there.

    Does Rory play for Celtic?

Why are we talking about him again?

Wait a minute..did he contribute financially to the magnificent Glasgow Celtic?…..that must be it but I cant find it. Embdy?

  14. Tommy Joad,

You too mate, hope you enjoy.

I have a feeling it will be hard work tomorrow.

1 v 0 will do me , and winning is more important that the style.

On scouting, my big gripe is our scouting at youth level . I know Scotland isn’t awash with great players, but I think that there are far too any youth players who we could sign for zilch.

Sadly, we seem to win regularly in what was the reserve , became u21 and is now u19 league, but , we don’t produce first team players. If we are going to focus on signing guys at 21 / 22 years old from other teams, then maybe we should dump thenu 17s and u19s and put more cash the Rogne / Wanyama / Matthews model

The hoops will be on, my neighbour is coming up to watch the game, he is a Spanish hun :>) a mad Real man.

    ——————————————————–

So you’re watching the game with a real man, sounds dodgy! ;-)))

Be sure to show him some real Celtic hospitality and further our reputation abroad. Don’t think i’ve got any worries on that score.

Enjoy the game and I’ll toast you when we win the cup.

Aye you may be right, golf is a silly game, just like every other game btw.

I have played many, many silly games in my life and I can say for sure that golf is the most leveling game I have ever played.

On a one to one I have a chance against the best in the world, very few other sports can claim the same,

    I would doubt it.

Do you remember Martin Sherlock playing at Hightown? He taught Rory in primary school. When St Enda’s held a dinner to raise funds for two new playing pitches Rory donated a signed golf club which realised over £900 in auction.

Golf is a game for the middle classes to put on airs and pretend to be people of good breeding. They may as well tape the help’s tupperware on themselves and play rugby in the American style for all it’s fooling anyone.

  19. Roy Croppie

    Well said.

Remember the dark days when we did not win a trophy from 89 to 95.

And how we reacted to winning the Scottish cup.

    Then another 3 years.

    We should cherish every one.
