Small investors in football clubs cannot overpay

1059

Really delighted at the flow of sentiment towards Billy McNeill and the launch of the new frontage of Celtic Park tomorrow.  The place is beginning to look like a 21st Century venue, now we need the shops, restaurants and bars to bring the match-day experience alive.

Were you one of the fans who put £620 (or more) into Celtic shares in 1994?  Around 10,000 did, raising an initial total of around £10m from small investors alone.  It wasn’t an investment, none of us wanted or expected the money back, it was our contribution to Celtic at a time of critical need.

Many small investor-Rangers fans did the same when Newco went to market in December 2012, although one high-profile investor, who coughed up £500k, has asked Dave King to buy him out.

The stark reality facing these shareholders is that if King’s path is followed to a logical conclusion the club will be run into the ground, destroying their investments along with everything else.  I have some sympathy for their position.

King is not interested in buying control of the club, even at the discounted price shares are now available at.  He emailed the £500k investor “Why should any new investor bail out existing investors because they made mistakes in overpaying for their shares. The club needs money not complaining shareholders”.

The price paid by small investors was perhaps the most irrelevant figure to them, they paid the gross figure they could afford, irrespective of price.  The value of the share was irrelevant so to accuse them of making a mistake by overpaying is like criticising the month of March for being too purple.

How the small shareholders feel about this behaviour will not determine what actions the Newco board takes, that will be come down to how easily manipulated people like the Easdales, Mike Ashley and Laxey Partners are.  My information is they are not easily manipulated in the slightest.

I don`t think Paul Waterson owns it (Maltman) anymore, I think one of the major brewers owns it. I also remember it being Glasgow`s first no smoking pub, many many years before the ban came in. It didn`t work for him back then. If 2 or 3 people were going out and only one of them smoked it was a no go.

    My friends in Celtic,

Have been mainly lurking over the last few days due to work commitments.

I have absolutely no wish for an arguement, this is merely an observation. I find it surprising and possibly even slightly disappointing that

TD 67 has had what can be regarded as a public “Yellow card”.

I may have missed some posts, but it would seem some must be very easily offended to actually report him. I have seen worse on here; much worse!!

Yes he can be brash, opinionated and many times factually incorrect; But there is absolutely no doubt that he bleeds Celtic.

Yes I completely understand that a certain protocol must be observed and rules must be in place to protect the status and reputation of the blog. Personal insults and details of any individual are wrong and possibly inappropriate posts such as these could have been deleted.

No criticism is intended, I just feel there has to be a place for the “old school” passionate type Celtic supporter who has been the backbone of our support throughout the challenging.times.

    HH, always in Celtic.

Re: Outstanding Non Football Debt Old Co

Also for the avoidance of doubt, the club’s debt was £18m when Murray sold out to Whyte.

This was a debt that was perfectly manageable and reducing swiftly.

Whyte then didn’t bother paying tax whilst at the same time punting the Arsenal shares and most likely trousering the Jelavic fee.

Rangers repaid all football debts following administration and the asset transfer prior to “oldco” liquidation. Legally, we didn’t have to do that.

Rangers have been a victim of a very calculated fraud, which has been allowed to take place on the back of a sinister and sustained PR attack, most notably the RTC which was endorsed by many in the Scottish media.

We should never forget this. More than two years (and counting) of torture (all) due to 18 million.

Rangers’ conceince is perfectly clear in all of this, and don’t let any foamy mouth tramp tell you otherwise.

  16. Greenpinata, In general I agree with your post but TD did go over the top with a post to googybhoy, maybe he had a few pints in him or something, I can’t say. The trouble is if you don’t nip these type of posts in the bud others will follow suit and before long we will have “The Tims Den”. TD is a true Celt and I would have him in my corner ahead of quite a few smart ass posters, even though he does annoy me at times. Hopefully its just a wee storm in a tea-cup and we will all get back to doing what we do best and that is supporting the Celtic through thick and thin.

I have known td67 for many years and a truer friend and bigger celt you will not find on gods green earth, I will concede he can be opinionated and pig headed at times, but that’s our tony, in saying that, there are a few on here that take pleasure in goading him, this is not me defending tony, he is a big bhoy that is more than capable of doing so himself. I myself have had many drunken set to’s with him, he loves celtic with a passion (don’t we all?), and will defend them rightly or wrongly, that;s tony’s way, maybe wrong maybe right ,anyone that dislikes him certainly does not know him, I to have seen much worse posted on here, seems a wee bit petty for some to run to the teacher…
