Some background on Ronny Deila

1408

Some perspective first.  Ronny Deila, manager of Norwegian champions Stromsgodset, is not about to be appointed Celtic manager.  He does, meet the criteria, unlike the various one-season wonders cast aside from the English Premier League.  I believe there are two other strong candidates, Ronny has no pre-eminence at this stage, but unlike the various ‘favourites’ who have appeared in recent times, at least he is a genuine possibility.

Stefan Johansen worked under Ronny immediately before joining Celtic, which gave club scouts an insight into the coach’s style of play.  Stromsgodset are predominantly an attacking team, who press high up the field and pass quickly.

His players are dedicated athletes or they don’t remain his players for very long.  He is also one of the game’s intellectuals, a former teacher – and what I’ve been asking for since Neil resigned – a student of the game.  His attitude to his own role is one of continual professional development.

Ronny has a track record of improving players and improving teams.  He is not a brand name, nor a shareholder’s whim.  He is not being considered because he’s ‘pals with Peter and out of a job’.

Please bear in mind………..

Ronny Deila is only one of three genuine contenders Celtic are considering at the moment but all three match the same criteria.  They are intelligent, technically adept, progressive, winners.  Which has made me more excited than any of the names suggested so far.

This was instigated by Ryecatcher. It wasn’t an attack on the teaching profession per se but on me, as he knows I’m a teacher.

You see, I called him out as a liar and a troll and (understandably) he’s taken exception to this.

Sadly, rather than question any of my posts he gets his kicks by attacking teachers.

Pathetic and unfortunately it derails the blog from its primary purpose, Celtic.

    Hail Hail

Surely no one is suggesting that we shouldn’t take Delia because he will be so successful that others will want him in a couple of years? Astounded, maybe I am wrong and the Sevco strategy of signings with no potential sell on value is the smart one!

“For anyone else I’ve nothing against teachers, both my parents were, I have upmost respect for people that pursue that profession especially HT”

Indeed, almost as much as for nurses who deal with the lame and the sick and the dying, work night shifts and weekends and all the public holidays, have to deal with the drunk and the drugged in full fisticuffs routinely, and just get on with it instead of threatening to go out on strike yet again like the dear teachers who are ever so stressed the poor things.

    …………………………………………..

Perhaps you think that workers shouldn’t have the right to go on strike.

    pfayr,

Comment is one thing, but it goes beyond that at times on here, almost to the point of criminalising the man.

I find it strange that the parsimonious, tight fisted Board would be uncharacteristicly charitable in paying well over the assumed rate for the job.

Being a PLC means that the figure is out there and not hidden in obscure accounts.

Personally, I never worried what wage anyone else earned, as it was what I earned that matter.

I don’t know if the Welsh colonial’s jibe about UKIP was aimed at me or not, but, if it was, poor show on you boyo.

  6. Where would any of us be without teachers?

The crazy comments by some on here are completely out of order. Sure, we have some bad teachers but most are dedicated professionals whose motivation is certainly not financial.

Sadly, many regard teachers as glorified child minders and this attitude contributes to poor classroom behaviour and poorer outcomes for the students.

So some more background on Ronnie

It took him 3 years to win a cup and 6 years to win his first league title, but at least he is now a winner in Norway, eventually. Perhaps if he is the one, he will win the league in Scotland quicker.

I am very worried that our ambitions are now to win the SPL only and who cares about the CL, as we can sell FF and VVD to make up any drop in CL income.

Having gambled on Lenny initially who turned out to be an excellent manager, we are now appear to be gambling again.

Lenny leaving has really caught the board by surprise!

Just waiting for the white smoke and the announcement. No offence to this Norwegian dude but he is unlikely to get players who may be wanting away from Celtic, to stay. My fear is that Virgil and Fraser will be sold this Summer and that is really frustrating more than anything else, especially in Virgil’s case.

If Ronny D, does get the gig, I can’t see him having much input in the players to come in, some say it has been like that for a while.

The one thing I will say is, Celtic have done pretty well player wise from the Scandinavian countries, although they may not have as exotic sounding names as other places, they seem to adapt very easily to Scotland.

Just had a scan through the European Leagues there in an attempt to find the other two candidates and all I ended up concluding was that Deila is a justifiable candidate.

Others rightly point at similar managerial appointments where folk like skobdahl, Kenny and Fenlon have moved to ecosse. We also have Egil Olsen, Henning Berg, Solbakken at Wolves as examples of Scandinavian managers from league clubs moving to English clubs.

I imagine some are putting up Kenny and Fenlon as examples as they believe the Irish league to be on a par with the Norwegian league. I must have missed St Pats or Derry beating us in the Champions League. I am sure some Hibs fans are also questioning the departure of Fenlon now that they are in the best league in the world. Unquote.

Skovdahl actually had Aberdeen in two cup finals in one year which is better than current manager of the year McInnes. It does appear that Solbakken doesn’t travel well though as he also had some problems with FC Koln.

Mr Deila has had his current team improve on points and goals scored in each and every year he has been in charge. I can only hope that people’s perceptions of Norwegian football don’t impact on their support if he is appointed.

As for the other two… I haven’t found a candidate in Poland, Belgium, Austria, Sweden, and perhaps Holland. The chap who managed in Cyprus intrigues as does Yakin but then there is still Petrescu. Also still think there is a role for John. Collins.

Btw would those decrying Norwegian football take Ole Gunnar Solskjaer?

    Uwe Rosler?

Both previous winners of the same damn thing Deila has won on a much smaller budget.
