‘SORT IT NOW’ CALL ON SEMI-FINAL PROBLEM

CELTIC boss Brendan Rodgers has called upon the SPFL to make a swift decision on the venues for the Betfred League Cup semi-finals.

The last-four encounters are scheduled for Hampden on October 27 and 28, but both the Hoops and Sevco Rangers are due to play Europa League games the previous Thursday, as CQN reported last Saturday.

Rodgers’ men will play RB Leipzig in Germany on October 25 while Steven Gerrard’s team are at home to Spartak Moscow on the same evening.

The logical move would be to push back both semi-final games to staggered slots on the Sunday, but the police authorities will not permit both matches to be played in Glasgow on the same day.

That could leave Murrayfield as an option for one tie, but Rodgers insisted it isn’t something he will worry about just now.

He added: “I think they will have to look at it now. It obviously presents a problem because there are midweek games the week after. I’ll let them sort that out.”

BT Sport are due to beam both semis live and they, too, will have a say in the matter.
