It was stalemated at 1-1 when James McCarthy sent Alexandro Bernabei racing clear on the left. He hit the bye-line before whipping over a low cross and the Greek striker arrived smack on time to turn the ball home from close range.

Remarkably, Giakoumakis was destined to score only three more league goals for the champions.
