  1. Anyway, enough of this banter, get the serious heads on.Do none of you know,The Huns are coming

    From Ibrox Noise

“Six points behind the leaders and looking at the fixtures for the next few games Rangers should be level on points with Celtic after these few games. A new confidence about us with more energy and tactical nous and we could be right there for a League winning run to the season finale. We are back and WE ARE RANGERS.

Thats what 2 wins gives you.

  2. Bada in terms of Individuals, at this moment Gordon, Tierney &, Brown are the only 3 playing today that I would want to force into the Seville side.

However I accept it’s not solely about Individuals, it’s about a team & Brendan has present side playing a lovely brand of ball.

Also some of present Bhoys like Dembele are very young & if they hang around a couple of years they are well capable of displacing some of the Seville Bhoys, apart from Henrik of course, no one could replace Henrik.

  3. Comparisons with other teams are largely irrelevant. Too many factors to consider. What i would say is that at this moment in time, personally i wouldn’t swap Brendan as Manager or KT as a player for anyone else in world football (not even Messi).

  4. We played some quality football today. Our opponents were more intent on inflicting physical damage than trying to pass a football. The referee today was nothing short of a disgrace. BM shouldn’t be refereeing junior games he is a complete buffoon. However amongst all this we managed to score 4 goals. Hh

  5. On the best team debate,IMHO,if we had Broony in the midfield in Seville,I would think we would have won

    All conjecture..

  6. Turkeyhoy,

They have a couple of handy games coming up which they probably will win, but then they play 2 games home & away against the sheep within 4 days of each other after that a handy one & then Hibs away, another difficult one I think circa 30th Dec.

    Great dates

    For me

    21/3/62 – my first game

Celtic 5 Redstar 1 – my wee pal’s greatest game

    Celtic Leeds at Hampden

And – dancing on the pitch at Brockville for the Nine

And for those who are no longer with us on this day – hail hail

  8. Gerryfaethebrig on

John Hartson more or less said no player out of the “invincibles” would get in the Seville team (last Sunday on radio Scotland) he actually did put up a decent arguenents but like Corkcelt posted Craig Gordon & Kieran would be certs for me, I love Broony but do we leave Lenny or Lambert out ? Remember Scott Brown was quite young in 2003 :-) wee Griff I love but am afraid he is no Henrik (yet)

  9. Cosy Corner Bhoy on

No matter how long or short your supporting of Celtic has been no-one can say ‘Ach,I’ve seen it all before’ because nobody has!

Comparisons are odious and Empire Exihibition trophy,St Mungo Cup, Coronation Cup, even THE BIGGIE were fantastic achievements in themselves ,but, an undefeated run like this team are on???

    Bloody wonderful!!!!

BTW, I never saw the Exhibition team….I’m no that auld!!!!

  10. GFTB at 7:47

I agree with your father: Eusebio best I’ve seen live. Wasn’t at his brilliant best but awesome just the same. Missed Puskas & DiStefano, as my brother wouldn’t take me though by all accounts uncle Paddy Crerand outshone both. Cryuff was something else, but that was at Hampdump.

Hard to measure newbies such as Messi, Ronaldinho etc against such legends as TV anesthetises modern players compared to the mythical legends of Puskas etc…. if that makes sense.

If it doesn’t makes sense, then it’s down to the rather excellent bottle of Merlot which Mrs S has bought me to celebrate a little, no big, piece of history today.

  11. ive always had a feeling mr douglas did not want us to win in seville go on tell me im an old republican sympathiser im only going what i seen.

  12. Great result / good performance.

SJ were fired and the usual cloggers did some clogging.

However we matched them physically and it paid off big time.

At times I thought that the MIB Ludge favourite BM was lining up an honest mistake of truly historic proportions but in the end he bottled it and was content to break up play with ridiculous decisions and winding up SB.

Consequently big attitude and appetite from the team.

There was a lack of fluidity at times and the shooting in the first half suggested that we were wearing slippers but we dug in and moved up a gear in the second half.

Good to see ScS score for the confidence lift.

MD was a bit in and out but as the game went on the leakers became higher and the troughs became fewer. Definitely coming back to his best — mobility and confidence improving by the game — and he was terrorising the SJ defence at the end up.

One issue — the composition of the MF.

SA had a good game as a b2b MF — starting things of and then stretching the game to get on the end of the move. CMcG is not a No.10 in the current style so was limited at times but he made it difficult for the opposition.

During our shaky 15 minutes in the second half SB was at times being overrun because SA was behind the ball as they came forward and TR is a true No.10.

ON comes on which helped as he rarely gets beyond the ball plus TR came deeper and closed down some space and made a nuisance of himself.

Some waffle but the question is — what should the MF look like post SB?

    Today — 2 deep lying plus a No.10?

    Future — CDM / b2b / No.10

Or would it be better to have the playmaker located further back?

SA + TR in the same team along with either ON or EK?

My father passed in 1995, much to my dismay I didn’t listen to him enough (my mother would say I never listened at all) I was the youngest of five, definitely an accident :-) being a good quarter of century younger than my big brothers, but wee snippets remain somewhere in the back of my memory

  14. The Good Ship Celtica on

I’m not the most frequent of posters but I have to add my congratulations to the squad and management team for breaking what was already a quite remarkable record.

As a teenager in the 90’s if someone had told me what was to transpire in the new millennium I would never have believed them.

For the younger Celts reading this never take these times for granted. We are living in an exceptional era.

    TGSC,

    Sailing On….

  15. Just logged on to salute Brendan, his staff and his players for their fantastic achievement!

The more I see and hear of Brendan, the more I’m convinced that not only will he be here for 10 in a row,but that he will also build a team that will compete in the CL. I’m not saying that we will win it or get to the final but we will qualify every season and given a reasonable draw will make the last 16. Then who knows?

Like many on here I had become fairly disillusioned with the quality of football we were playing in Ronnie’s last season. The style and quality of football has been excellent and it’s a joy once more going to games, so thanks for that too Brendan!

I don’t know if it’s true but I have heard that immediately after the cup final Dermot asked Brendan what was next and the bhold fella said “we do it all again!”

This record might well be extended a fair bit beyond 63!

There truly are great times to a Tim!

At the risk of re-opening old wounds we missed a trick by not bringing in JMcF after Seville.

You only had to see how much LM — and SP when he joined in Jan04 — energised the team to appreciate how much he would have helped post Seville.

With the benefit of hindsight MON allowed a good team to stagnate.

Given how he had turned us around in difficult — peak Ludge influence / SDM financial jiggery pokery — circumstances he deserves some slack but it is a lesson I think we have learned.

    Seville was a peak.

    Currently we are moving forward.

PL holds his nerve and we continue with a growth agenda then we should surpass their achievements.

You make an excellent point. The 50’s were ( mostly) awful, as were the 90’s but we got through them without cheating and with some outstanding Celtic Legends to give us hope.

  18. Brilliant Celtic a fabulous feeling.

I was unable to keep up to speed with events today until the 70th minute when I was able to switch my phone on and get an update.

My heart was truly pumping as I waited for page to load 1.0 Sinky just magic.

I was truly delighted and surprised when I heard it finished 4.

I’ve just watched the 10 mins highlights. Moussa looks back to his best.

Thank you to whoever uploaded the highlights.

Hail Hail to all in what is a momentous day for our club. We were alive to witness it folks.

  19. The Good Ship Celtica on

    WITS,

Cheers mate. Doing great thanks. Hope things are good your end.

Pass on my regards to your good lady.

    TGSC,

  20. Win, lose or draw, I am proud to be a Celt – but it’s a very special feeling tonight. What a day, what a day of days.

  21. I’d be hard pushed to find 8 better outfield players than we have now. Our biggest problem is finding a natural replacement for SB. Hh

saw that on facebook earlier so sad

great flag , that will make people think about what the poppy signifies to the families of victims of forces of the crown

  23. Magical Celtic games. That I attended

For me, my two favs Celtic 4 Rangers 2 ten men won the league 1979

and St Mirren 0 Celtic 5 again to win the league 1986.

Honourable mentions to 1985 cup final Celtic 2 Dundee Utd 1 that was the 100th Scottish cup final a magnificent Provan free kick and then a late winner by McGarvey sealed the comeback and of course 1988,our centenary, deja vu as again we come from behind to beat United 2.1 two late goals by Macca.

Defeating St Johnstone 2.0 in 1998 to in the league and beating Barca 2.1 with Tony Watt scoring the winner were sensational games too.

    Hail Hail

  24. Goooood Evening CQN

    And the Invincible 63’s :-))))

Honestly couldn’t pick a best Celtic team I’ve seen,

I just love every Celtic victory and achievements

Back to players, remember watching us in a pre-season friendly against a Brazilian team (was it Cruzerio or something ?), sure it was played at that Hamdump

Saviola ? Tore us to shreds, great performance

  25. The Good Ship Celtica on

    Scaniel,

The hope was always there and we did always have The Maestro and some other great players like John Collins to ward off the despair! However, it was the humour I always remember getting me through those times. Not the View was a life saver; both as a force for change and for keeping spirits up by taking the mick out of everyone including ourselves. I’m pretty sure my blog name originates from there.

    TGSC,

    Sailing On….

  26. come on dont sweep it under the carpet .either agree or disagree with an other goalkeeper. we would have won in seville.

  27. What is the Stars on

    Good ship Celtica

    Will do

    All good here

    How is your dad

Haven’t noticed him on the blog. Hope he is well

  28. I’m not sure what’s more of a disgrace. Appointing the racist Malky McKay as the interim Scotland manager or McKay selecting the appalling Ryan Jack who is an embarrassment to football in the Scotland squad. Either way it’s a national disgrace. Hh
