Tannadice the scene for Cup quarter final

877

On Saturday my mind wandered, as it does, to the demise of Gretna in 2008.  The village team were bankrolled through the Scottish league system until promotion to the SPL in 2007 but then the cash ran out.  The club went into liquidation a few weeks from the end of the season but while most of the first team squad were made redundant, a few remained on a week-to-week basis to see out the remaining league programme, assisted considerably by the SPL and Livingston FC, who made their ground available.

Should Rangers fail around the same time, I thought, how apt it would be for us to meet them in the Scottish Cup final.  We would be there at the end to wave goodbye to a unique institution.  Witnesses to the final whistle on a club with an enormously controversial history.

Unfortunately, my hopes were dashed by Dundee United at Ibrox yesterday, who Flushed Away the opposition and won their first game against an SPL team in 2012.  We will have to scramble for tickets for the prospective event at another venue.

United seem set to try their hardest to spoil my enjoyment of the Cup.  Our quarter final draw against them next month will be one of the toughest games of the season.

  1. Guys..

This would make a great movie all on its own.More along the lines of Tinker Tailor etc.

Would Danny Boyle or Peter Mullan direct it??

Who would be cast as the leading lights,Murray,Smith W,Smith G,Pieman,Whyte,Bain.?

James Forrest is a must start for me and I’m afraid Izzy, in that state of fitness, is a must not start! The comfort of Celtic Park for his next start.

Big fan of Stokes but after Sammi and Hoops at the weekend it’s hard for me to see him starting. Wonderful to have him and Commons available on the bench and for Saturday.

I think Wilson impressed enough to keep his place also though Dan could come into Lennon’s plans.

  3. North.NorthWest of Neil Lennon on

@malarkey perhaps I worded that wrongly, I do not wish him ill (am Irish), I just commented on the negative results of his choice to stay at Newcastle.

Not happy to see him injured but stand by comment re: ba cisse

  4. Philbhoy - It's just the beginning! on

Agree Wilson did reasonably well on Saturday and the game will have improved his match fitness and sharpness.

However, once or twice he did a fair impression of Bambi!

I wish he would just clear his lines in tight situations.

    Makes sense to me.

  5. Serious question …

Is it possible Craig Whyte held on to the Ticketus money until November, then put the lot on Celtic to win the league at 12/5, just like I did (albeit with a bit less than £24M)?

I think we might have dodged one there.

Glad we didn’t sign him and don’t give a tosh about his fitness or first team prospects at Newcastle.

  7. Neil Lennon is (and always will be) a Celtforlife (*O*),

Indeed – and they wouldn’t have wanted to scupper a deal, would they? Even the SFA would have had to have looked into allegations about Whyte’s shady past

Is it not amazing at the lengths “they ” will go to to try and get us. Their thinking is, oh well, Arabs beat hun at ibroke so good chance they will beat wee Timmy at Tannerdice. Sock it to them Celtic.

KoJo was right by saying we do need to be putting in the chances we create though as one of these days we could be on the wrong end of a couple of dodgy pens, as if!!

On converting chances,Liverpool were flagged up this morning as having the worst conversion rate in the EPL.

  12. I want Craig Whyte/White to stay in control of Rankers as long as possible, he’s doing a great job!

But it is easy to see why the MSM are circling the wagons around him, he won’t talk to them!!! He talks to his follow followers through Rankers Media only.( Have we not been asking our board/management to do the same???)

The truth is ole Boggle eyes has only been at the helm for less than a year or to put in context since SDM took charge many blue moonbeams ago, less than 5% of the time Rangers have operated fraudulently.

Of course the MBB is steering them to oblivion but it was akin to being handed the controls of the Titanic moments before disaster and being told to divert it by using a rowing boat to tow it to a safe path!

No! The MSM simply want to deflect and absolve, rewrite history and put all, ALL the blame for this mess onto googleyeyes.

David Murray is the reason why Scottish football is in the mess its in, trying, and failing, to emulate nay TRUMP Celtic in his pursuit of European glory without stopping to think that no matter what they would always be second.

Jail SDM for the ruination of the game I love.

Craigyboy! Keep on going, you’re doing a grand job.

  13. That was on Sunday afternoon when I put here Pawel Brozek interview given to the Polish newspaper “Gazeta Krakowska”.

I see another pathetic behaviour by “Daily Record” and their journo Craig Swan. His article says “Celtic new boy Pawel Brozek: I’m fit for debut against Hearts after Neil Lennon slog” . It’s exclusive interview and no word where quotations come from.

  14. Has anything happened with Celtic TV?

I read here a few weeks ago that it was beginning again on 433 (Premier Sports?)

I don’t appear to have the show or I have picked this up wrong?

    5 February, 2012 at 21:53

Gazeta Krakowska.:How do you feel in Scotland, Pawel? Are the opinions about the British weather true?

Pawel Brozek.: I signed contract with Celtic and that means that the Sun is shining for me since I arrived. Speaking more seriously, it’s much warmer than in Poland now. When I hear what temperatures are in Cracow , I’m sure the gossips about bad British weather are big exaggerations. It was enough warm to see Glasgow city.

GK.: Did you like the city?

PB.: Yes, I liked the city very much. The city is much nicer than Trabzon. Now I’m pretty sure that this place will offer better life than I had in Turkey.

GK.: Were you impressed with the Celtic stadium and Celtic training base?

PB.: Celtic stadium is beautiful. Sixty thousand people can watch the games live. Lukasz Zaluska and Maciej Zurawski told me that the atmosphere at the games is hot. Training base is awe-inspiring. We have four pitches for training sessions, including one artificial pitch. We have one pitch with a roof. There we can play when it’s very cold outside. We have everything that we need for good work.

GK.: Is your family with you In Glasgow yet?

PB.: I’m without my family for a time being. I’m looking for a flat. I’m not very fastidious but would like to find something where I, my wife and our child will feel well and comfortable. I can spend one or two days more on looking for a new flat and make better choice.

GK.: Whatever the occasion, you say that you are very happy for that move to Glasgow. Does that mean that you regret your transfer decision to Trabzonspor?

PB.: No, it’s not like you say. Of course, I can’t be fully happy with that what happened in Trabzon, for how many games I played in. It was not wasted time. I had trainings and played with better players than me. For that reason I’m the better player now, better than I was when I left Poland. Of course, I would be even more better player if I got more games to play. Now you know why I wanted to change the club.

GK.: You did not play in many games or not played at all. I suppose your motivation for work must have dropped.

PB.: No, I did not have a problem with motivation for hard work on training sessions. Let’s be serious. I signed the contract, somebody paid my wages I could not feel offended for a whole world. I did my duties hundred percent well, as much as I could do them well.

GK.: Is Turkey the closed chapter in your life?

PB.: I can’t say that. I’m on loan contract to Celtic and nobody knows what is going to happen in the next few months. The Scotts have first buy option, but nobody can give me the guaranty that they will make a use of that option. Everything depends on me now. I must show the level of play that will make Celtic sure of the decision that I’m worth permanent deal.

GK.: If Celtic put that permanent deal option in the contract that means that they are interested in that outcome?

PB.: I hope so. I know that Neil Lennon was the man who wanted me at Celtic Park very much.

GK.: You know, some people say that you were the lucky guy because the problems at Trabzonspor make the move to the better club possible?

PB.: For sure, that was the transfer to more famous club, to one of the most popular clubs in the Europe. The greatness of that club you can feel everywhere in here. That greatness means that nobody can give me place In the first squaw for free. WE hale two or three great strikers who can score the goals. Big job is waiting for me. That is hard task to be done. After one year at Trabzonspor I’m hungry the games. I will do everything possible to make our coach sure that I’m worth a place In the starting squad.

GK.: You told about Neil Lennon. What kind of person is Neil Lennon? Maciej Zurawski, who played with Neil Lennon told us that you are going to be happy because Neil is fantastic person.

PB.: I already had longer chat with my coach before first training session. He made very positive impression on me. He told me that counts on me. He told that expects very hard work that I can do for him. I can say that experiences from my first training say that Neil Lennon told the truth. Neil Lennon has good sense of humor as well. When I was leaving the pitch after the training session, I was very tired and the coach came to me and said :”Welcome to Scotland”.

G.K.: Are you looking forward to the derby game? Is your appetite for that game big? That game exceeds the flames of ordinary football.

PB.: Everybody who is interested in football knows that the derby of Glasgow is very hot game. That is similar to what we have in Cracow. For that reason that game is not going to be very new to me. I know what derby games are like and how to come to them.

GK.: Not long time ago , you said that you must change the club if you want to play in Euro 2012. Can we be sure that you form for Euro 2012 will be good?

PB.: My form for Euro 2012 will be good if I play games for Celtic. Priority is now Celtic. If I do well for Celtic I don’t expect the problems with my play for Poland and my place in Poland squad for Euro 2012.
