Tannadice the scene for Cup quarter final

877

On Saturday my mind wandered, as it does, to the demise of Gretna in 2008.  The village team were bankrolled through the Scottish league system until promotion to the SPL in 2007 but then the cash ran out.  The club went into liquidation a few weeks from the end of the season but while most of the first team squad were made redundant, a few remained on a week-to-week basis to see out the remaining league programme, assisted considerably by the SPL and Livingston FC, who made their ground available.

Should Rangers fail around the same time, I thought, how apt it would be for us to meet them in the Scottish Cup final.  We would be there at the end to wave goodbye to a unique institution.  Witnesses to the final whistle on a club with an enormously controversial history.

Unfortunately, my hopes were dashed by Dundee United at Ibrox yesterday, who Flushed Away the opposition and won their first game against an SPL team in 2012.  We will have to scramble for tickets for the prospective event at another venue.

United seem set to try their hardest to spoil my enjoyment of the Cup.  Our quarter final draw against them next month will be one of the toughest games of the season.

I think you may have misconstrued my light hearted comments on Whtye. Murray knew exactly what he was doing when he passed responsibility for Rangers to Whyte. Whyte was the patsy.

Murray is a shrewd operator and it isn’t by sheer chance that he’d written confidentiality for himself into the contract he has with Whyte. No, I’m with you 100%, Murray, I believe is still the puppet master and I remain to be convinced that Whyte is anything more than a temporary custodian.

However, my hope is that Whyte may yet blow the whole choreographed show out of the water

    2010 Never Again

I agree. I’ve thought this for some time.

Why did Murray/The Bank refuse to deal with anyone other than Whyte (there was other interest)

Why did The Bank put the pressure on the huns to accept Whyte?

You also have to ask the question(s). Why would Whyte agree to allowing (Murray/The Bank) to deal exclusively with HMRC re the tax case?

Who in their right mind would allow their destiny to be determined by the men (Murray/The Bank) who are solely motivated by self interest? It doesn’t make any sense.

There’s a game afoot. You can take that to the bank!

  11. An excerpt from an article defending Craig Whyte on Rankers media

The press in Scotland certainly never saw fit to question Sir David Murray in this way when his reckless spending brought the club to this point. It’s notable that the same hacks who gave Murray such an easy ride are the ones now attempting to discredit Whyte, but they are of course a dying breed. With newspaper sales plummeting and most people becoming aware of stories on the internet long before they have even dusted down their typewriters, they are more desperate than ever to create stories rather than report them.

Written from a supporter who was part of a fan-base that never questioned losses on a Murray balance sheet either they certainly don’t do irony

It is also laughable that they can acknowledge a compliant media to all things Rangers to only then in the same article call it an all out timmy attack in the media against Rankers, they certainly are at the moment are a very confused rudderless support, jelly and ice cream anyone

  12. Administration, a points deduction, 10p in the pound settlement with all parties including HMRC (approx £8m all told) and a new start. Whyte will be shafted royally and be one of the biggest losers, he’s being set up for it already. He has a floating charge but how do you remove that major obstacle? Obfuscate the issue with criminality, neuter the security.

That’s my new prediction. Based on nothing other than my own imagination.

  13. twists n turns – the sea change in the attitude of the Daily Record is very very simply explained. The editorial policy is no longer locally set. London have set the policy. London did not like the fawning and excuse making for tax dodgers. As a group that newspaper go to town and tax avoidance. Simlpes.

  15. Are the scottish media working to some kind of cunning agenda by now deciding to go after Craigie ?????????

Maybe they see a way out for ranglers if the MBB is thrown into jail .

Or is it a case of the rats turning on each other as the holed ship is slowing sinking ??

  16. After the first BBC documentary Craig Whyte launches a tirade against them stating eh will sue and the documentary was untrue. Days later an announcment to the Plus Markets that he was banned as a Director.

Last night we get the exact same statement. Therefore I predict within a few days we will see Mr Whyte’s little mouthpiece uttering the words “Mr Whyte will be fully co-operating with the Police enquiry”.

I will look forward to seeing what the Police think of his defence of “erm, eh, naw I erm, eh, er didnae” when presented with the 2 court transcripts at his Police interview as his statement last night amounted to just that.

He was presented with cold hard facts, 2 court transcripts showing in black and white what he said, yet his statement was I didn’t do it and you hate Rangers.

It has gone from hilarious to worrying for me that on FF and within the bulk of heir fans, they are dismissing cold hard facts as a conspiracy. It is truly incredible.

This article from RTC was initially printed in March 2011.

Being privy to many of the facts related to Rangers’ tax ordeal, the last year has been a revelation to me. I find it hard to believe that every journalist in Scotland is naive enough to believe the nonsense being fed to them. In their hurry to publish, they shamelessly rush from fax machine (or whatever PR firms use these days) to the press without editing or critical thought. In short, readers are paying to read PR-fluff written and produced by people with agendas.

Then there are a number of hacks who surely cannot claim, after all of these years, to have simply been hoodwinked by purveyors of succulent lamb? Some Scottish journalists’ track record of doing the bidding of the country’s more media savvy businessmen goes back to a time where a simple loyalty to their favourite football team cannot explain everything. This has the odour of “bought and paid for” reporting. A passionate and diehard Rangers fan could not go along with this fakery. Only the most naive or corrupt of journalists could continue to do the bidding of people whose interests are diametrically opposed to Scottish football as a whole, and most specifically, Rangers FC. Yet Rangers fans are fed this diet of regurgitated lamb and foolishly lap it up like it is a kebab at closing time. It seems that any bearers of bad news, regardless of allegiance, are dismissed as troublemakers (and worse).

That brings us to today’s topic. We will take a quick look some of the myths and lies that our national media have helped weave into the popular debate on the subject of Rangers’ financial and legal woes.

We can see in the link below as fine of an example of journalistic creativity as you will ever find. It is clear that even Graham Speirs- Scotland’s most erudite sports journalist- can resort to just filling his pages with a collection of random ‘facts’ with no relevance to the actual story:

  23. Here is an example of what is going on within their support. The guys who are calling the facts out are being berated and getting called the “Columbo Loyal” for not blindly following Whyte. Here is a post from this morning

    ===========================================================

You really love that phrase ‘Columbo Loyal’ don’t you ?

Instead of ranting here about Rangers haters, Romanist bias, or anything else how about taking a wee step back and reading what has been posted on the 312 threads on the Board.

Read it. Take a deep breath and think about what you’ve read.

The Tarriers are p!ssing themselves because of the state Murray left us in. Selling to someone like Whyte only compounded his crime.

The BBC, Record, Sun, whoever are highlighting what Whyte has done. They haven’t made it up. It is all true.

Now maybe they are highlighting it for their own reasons…….. to bury Rangers, get Whyte the jail, stick it up us as supporters, whatever.

But it doesn’t change the fact that every single thing previously exposed by the tv programme, the newspaper Press reports or tonights BBC news article, like it or not, is true.

Whyte WAS disqualified from being a director for 7 years. – he neglected to tell anybody that AS REQUIRED before taking over Rangers.

Whyte WAS disqualified because he moved creditors money around to hide it before the liquidators moved in.

Whyte WAS NOT only ‘an investor’ in that company. Investors don’t get disqualified by Courts of Law. Directors do.

Whyte DID go into Court last November and give evidence on oath that his disqualification was not for shifting creditors money around.

Whyte DID lie when he denied the Ticketus deal.

These are facts whether you like them or not.

Or maybe you think we should resort to mhank behaviour and deny it ever happened ?

    =====================================

The response he got to this?

    =====================================

Watching it [documetary] just now looks a lot of s****

That is the issue they are facing and this is why their club will disappear with a whimper. When they do wake up and realise what is going on it will be far far too late and Rangers will not exist.

There will be alot of trouble in Scotland that night.

This article in the Record appears to be just another piece of fluff about Whyte. It is not. They have used the article to link certain names with Mr Whyte who,in the fullness of time, may be shown to have a very significant part to play in the future of RFC.The legal department were all over it.

    http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/2012/02/07/rangers-chief-craig-whyte-in-bizarre-link-up-with-english-minnows-banstead-athletic-average-crowd-30-86908-23739157/

  25. When Chelsea were in their pomp with Mourinho it football journos loved to point out that Makele did an essential job that when unnoticed. The fact that football fans everywhere where fully aware seem to escape their notice. Chelsea actually paid a lot of money from Real for him so chances were he was a good player.

So here we have a situation that under SDM der Hun has overspent for years. We have as Celtic fans been pointing out for years they are in trouble. In 2002 an ex-Huns director stated that they were on the abyss, but ignored and dissed. The tax case was minor matter that would go away.

Lo and behold we are now told every night that the person that no one is talking about is SDM as if there is an amazing revelevation. As if they did not even cough in his presence lest they upset him. They have categorically failed in any investigation into their business dealings. It was always the same with their ignoring the old signing policy.

Their defence now rests on well if someone lies to you what are youu meant to do about it. You could try and investigate, look for more information. Yet there is a wealth of information out there. Only the BBC have started to find bits of information that are starting to lead places with Whyte.

The Ranger exclusive was not based on any facts. Only the statement from an ex-director. The only expose that has ran is the involvement of Ticketus. Easy questions for Paul Murray:

    why speak out now?

Why did HMRC speak to you at all?

Why did they show you paperwork that was confidential and not linked to any known investigation that HMRC are concerned with?

    Martin Bain

the EBT is based on a fine interpretation of tax law as was and users are given struct instructions was to waht to do. Did you deliberately breach these rules, specifically with side letters/agreements? Was SDM and other directors aware of alleged breaches?

    Alastair Johnston

when you stated that you were confident you would win the tax case, where you in full possession of the facts of the case?

Rather trivially Grahem Speirs: why did you persist in asking if SDM will morally stand up and pay the tax bill when he sold the company to a buyer who knew the liability.

There is a lot of easy avenues of questions to pursue MBB that are too much to list.

Now these questions have been asked on here and other sites many times and only RTC has really got things moving. One would have hoped that after the demise of NoW due to shear persistance by Guardian journalist that this may have inspired others. Sadly not on the back pages of Socttish papers. There is still time but they simply seem to be concentrainh taking sides for the civil war and to find reasons why Newco should get immediate entry to SPL.
