The last minute goal fell Celtic’s way at the weekend but Wednesday’s opponents, Ajax, were on the receiving end of the sucker punch, losing to a last minute goal at home to Vitesse, just a week after a goalless draw at home to joint bottom Waalwijk. The Dutch champion’s only win in their last five games was at home to lower league opposition six days ago.
So what does this mean for Celtic? It means Ajax have found various ways not to approach the Celtic game. The last thing teams need ahead of a crucial game is an easy or flattering result, far better to show up your mistakes.
If Celtic take the lead, we might find Ajax confidence sinks rapidly, but they will approach the game full of focus, dangerous and with a point to prove.
It’s Christmas time…….
The Celtic FC Foundation (new name for Celtic Charity) Christmas Appeal has been launched. The 125 Anniversary activities have considerably reenergised the Celtic Movement in getting back to where is all started – looking after those in need.
The Christmas Appeal aims to provide 150 local families who would otherwise go without, a Christmas meal, with gifts for younger kids.
The Celtic support will be helping people through Glasgow East Women’s Aid, Spirit Aid, the Glasgow Simon Community, Loaves and Fishes, The Wayside Club, Glasgow City Mission and Lodging House Mission.

I am hoping to write something for a Catholic publication on one or two of the big questions to have come up, and if I can, to talk to some high school and university groups, if they will have me.
If I can, when the time is right, I will happily share some things on CQN. It would be interesting to see if some of the things I have witnessed and talked to other pilgrims about are in keeping with Huckleberry Tim’s experiences. I met a lot of people who are doing it bit by bit. An awful lot of Spanish pilgrims seem to do it this way because they don’t have the same travel costs and can get a few stages done any time they have a few days off. I was very, very fortunate that my family and my employer allowed me enough time to do it in a wanner.

No probs, but believe me that story is 100% true. Living in a house with a wife and 2 daughters (even my dog is a bitch) was an angry place for a few days cos my eldest was raging with the youngest for losing the passport and going on her hols 2 weeks later.

It’s a new market. It’s money for nothing affectively. I think the potential sponsorship deals for shirts and pitch advertising could be massive. This is an incredible deal. Up until today we had nothing coming from China. Now we have £20m into the game for nothing! We don;t have to change our game at all to suit the Chinese. It’s really money for nothing and the positives that could come from this is huge. The Chinese companies may not be favoured or wanted by the EPL clubs so like players who want to prove themselves the companies can put a foot in Scotland and test the UK water and the market. This could potentially make money for all clubs through all sorts of avenues. Unfortunatley a Chinese businessman or consortium may see an opportunity to invest in a Scottish club and Hearts and sevco could end up being snapped up by a proper billionaire.
It’s a great deal for the SPFL though and probably gives them an opportunity to finally get a sponsor for the new leagues.

Just want to use the site to say publicly ‘thank you’ to John Paul Taylor for very speedily coming to my assistance. During the Ajax game, my seat collapsed under me. Fortunately I came to no harm. Perhaps it was my weigh over the years since I purchased the seat (away back in the days when the North Stand came into existence) that caused the collapse. I am certain others are better placed than me to judge if that is the case.
I wrote to JPT on the morning after the Ajax game and he replied immediately to say that he would arrange for the seat to be fixed. So after I struggled through the downpour on Saturday, I was delighted to discover that my seat had been repaired.
Thanks JP and I hope you will continue to aid all our support in the years ahead.

I’m sure you found the whole experience tiring for the body but nourishing for the ole soul.

I was thinking about Cumnock while in a place called Palas de Rei last Sunday evening.
While waiting for it to be time for Mass, I saw football on a screen in a rather scruffy bar (matching my appearance perfectly) and went in for a glass of wine and a look at the game. A few minutes later, two old boys came in, extremely well scrubbed up in collar, pastel-coloured ties, jacket, the works.
To my consternation, they persuaded the owner to switch to a local Galician channel so they could watch the local equivalent of X Factor, which seemed to involve, exclusively, contestants that looked like muscular young women from Cumnock wearing the sort of frock you would see on guests at a 1970s wedding. They were awful. But not only did the regular customers fail to realise this and demand that we get the football back, they sang along.
To be fair, one of them had a good voice and would probably have won the competition had he been taking part.
Malcolm Murray sounds like someone Alan Partridge made up as his ‘best friend’.

That Via Doloroso contains the Lochside Hotel and a golf course. The natives consider that a luxury day out.
There’s a road out of New Cumnock that takes you by Glenbuck, home of the erstwhile Cherrypickers, of Bill Shankly fame.
Seems like they cherrypicked all the best bits out of that part of Ayrshire.
I’m hearing from a reliable curry sauce that the Chinese deal was worth only 1 million originally. Happily the Chinese loved the funny/tickly pam hand shakes so much they kept asking for another shake. Out wonderful representatives sow this and charged another 100,000 per handshake.
