The lesson from Arbroath

760

So what did we learn yesterday?  Primarily we learned that you can’t replace 8 players from a team which won 0-4 at Tynecastle while leaving the core element of the team in place.  It is justifiable to be critical of the performances of experienced key players who didn’t perform, but Wanyama, Brown, Matthews, Miku didn’t become bad players overnight, nor did Tony Watt, what happened is the essence of our team – the system – was missing.

The effort was there but the focus which makes this Celtic team wasn’t.  In many ways this was the perfect setup for a Champions League game against a team too many people are telling me we’ll turn over.  Our Christmas Cup Final on Wednesday will require every element that existed against Barcelona last month.

The knives are out for Spartak’s foreign players, who are taking the blame for the clubs disintegration since losing at home to Celtic, both in the press and online fan polls.  We may see a more Russian looking Spartak on Wednesday.  Which will be no bad thing.

    petec,

other night you raised me to status of pawn

    sober up

for a mhan of such religous beliefs you are blind to the worst of manipulation

siding with a judean mason is as gnostic as copulation.

    no offence like

  3. I wish to re-visit my earlier constructive comments regarding the percieved lack of forwards coach, and persistent inconsitencies and under acheivements of the current celtic coaching staff. I did not simply look for a reaction as i said at the beginning of my post

I am a genuine celtic supporter and was pleased by the results against Barcelona and Hearts. Inspite of the fact that I have never been entirely convinced by Neil Lennon as Celtic Manager he continues to have my support and I wish him and the celtic team well.

    I also said

In the prolonged inconsistency of Celtic’s performances this season have resisted the temptation to jump on the bandwagon of success or failure and have chosen to lurk and not because as much as i support Neil Lennon and CFC something is definitely not right at the moment. I appreciate that Neil is still learning and wants the best for celtic but there is still a tactical nous missing

I also said clearly that my post was

not a knee jerk reaction to the 1-1 draw with arbroath

nor was it the gloating reaction of a disappointed fan questioning Neil’s ability

Therefore subsequent comment from the previously abusive poster at that suggested I was simply looking for a reaction was also unjustified….

Now to revisit my concerns about celtics lack of forward nous and repeated mistakes/failures from the celtic coaching and management staff

Why did we sign a proven pacy polish goalscorer Pawvel Broscek (spelling) yet he never started match last season

Celtics best chance to qualify for the champions league was away against benfica. Celtic lost that match because the manager chose to play THREE unfit players chalie mulgrew, scott brown and gary hooper who still seems to be struggling for match fitness/sharpness.

By all account Miku who had an excellent game against barcelona and is a proven exponent of the lone striker upfront having successfuly played this role in la liga on several occaisions. If experienced European players such as Miku, lassad, Brosieck are being persistently overlooked in place of unfit first teamers this lack of confidence in their ability will affect morale and team spirit.

Miku was signed on loan at the time Neil Lennon said he was delighted to get him that he offers something different. Why then was he overlooked for an obviously unfit Gary Hooper. I sincerely hope Gary Hooper re-discovers his scoring touch but it did no favours to two experienced european footballers to play an unfit gary hooper and and unfit scott brown

The recent lack of momentum and inonsistent form (not withstanding a 4-0 victory against Hearts) can be traced

back to the benfica defeat. That match was there for the taking but Neil Lennon chose to play 3 unfit players in champions league qualifier. It is not the first time that our manager has gambled with match fitness and this suggests that he has not yet learned lessons to rest unfit players. I am sorry, harsh as it may seem for me to select a clearly unfit player is a fundamental and unacceptable failure of the coaching and management staff.

On a similar point we have been hearing so many conflicting stories about Scott Brown’s physical health…one minute he needs urgent surgery and can hardly walk because of a persistent and debilitating hip injury….the next minute he has made a miraculous recovery within 48 hours

Scott Brown certainly adds drive committment, energy and momentum to the celtic midfield which are missing when he is not picked. Our club captain has matured and blossomed after a slow start his epoch moment of acceptance being the unforgettable “Broonie” at Ibrox

But our captains long term health is far far more important thank short term gains and i do want scott brown to risk long term injury and premature retirement because his health and match fitness have been neglected. There is still a peristent failure to manage scott browns long term injury problems regardless of the players commendable and inspirational desire to play through the pain barrier.

Persistent pain is a significant warning and it is a neglect of duty to ignore this problem. Harsh as it may sound but if an unfit scott brown is still the only answer to celtic’s lack of momentum then it is another failure of the celtic coaching staff. Scott Brown is in agony get him the treatment care and attention he needs now ! Beram Kayal has proven an able deputy in the past and will do so again in future.

The preventable booking of Victor Wanyama against Benfica was a direct consequent of wanyama having to cover for more than one non fit colleague.

As for the lack of a forwards coach Have Celtic replaced Alan Thompson ? Why is Kris Commons a wonderful creative talent and gifted player so inconsistent. Are celtic being coached to retain possession at the expense of taking shots on goal.

Would Kris Commons Miku, lassad, McGeough benefit from the nous and inspiration of a forwards coach who would encourage them to have a go (i mean a shot)

Are the forward/creative instincts of Joe Ledley who was a box to box player in his Cardiff City days being suppressed by defensive focus and over intensive possession coaching

Celtic had a great chance to progress to the last 16 that task is now harder because a collective failure by the coaching and management staff. Learn the lessons, prove me wrong but do not under-estimate spartak moscow. Our forwards lack focus, confidence and inspiration.

It was no fluke that Shunsuke Nakamura scored so many free kicks he trained hard and practiced hard long after many other players had stopped training.

Just as Fraser Forster has so obviously benefited from a specialist goal keeping coach (stevie woods) so to will the mis-firing celtic forward line benefit from forward coaching

Hail Neil Lennon and celtic lets move FORWARD together not be distracted by finance, supporter conflict and mibbery an inspirational forwards coach to nurture and inspire the creativity and attacking instincts is the missing solution to celtics inconsitency

As well as the failure to replace alan thompson celtic also failed to replace Ki Seung Yeung who flourishes under Michael Laudrap at Swansea City

The failure to replace Ki and Alan Thompson

    Lack of forward inspiration

  10. Kit good to see your persitent defence of the SSM think that Tony Mowbray’s preference for Marc “Anthony” Fortune scuppered the mcarthy transfer…on a similar vein wonder why steve McManus has dropped off the radar at Middlesborough A player and former captain of club and country who acheived much and certainly could not be faulted for effort and committment

Was it Tony Mowbray who ironically allowed Mick McManus to leave Celtic for Gordon Strachan’s Middlesborough….

  11. Kit can you email me a copy of the hun presentation I am sure it will gibe magsmacgill and myself a wee laugh before we watch the spartak game in tokyo thursday morning

  12. canamalar, last night you said that its all the right that control conformism, I think it isn’t as I used to myself think of american media as all right wing, but actually a lot of them are 3rd wayist economically and on welfare but far too socially anarchanistic for my liking.

To prove that the far left believe in over population as much as the far right I give you Russia today, an interview with wall street they are a very left wing group from their comments and one of them actually said “anyone who disagree’s with putting people before profits should be euthanized”. Plus it is on democratic, not republican websites were most are advocating population reduction prior to wealth redistribution and they think chavez is not left wing enough cause he is against abortion…

American so called socialists are a strange bunch and have some utterly abhorrent views on top of their better ones. This killing of unborn children on account of preventing them “suffering” if they are not wanted by the mum, killing of those who don’t agree with you is erm identical to those who wage jihad. And Like I say the american left are often into reducing the population. I know it seems bizarre but they genuinely think that their is too many people for wealth redistribution to work until people are reduced, naturally none of them volunteer to be the first to be killed…

I do think a problem is in store for america if it backs Israel too much, and I mean domestically. I also see a day when america is near communist, or corporate communism of a sorts whilst Europe rushes further and further into libertarian fascism.

It seems a strange time we live in and a bleak future of two different types of authoritarian regimes emerging. Give me Ecuador or Venezuela any day, at present socialism that works whilst respecting religion, liberty and prosperity.

I can see most of that continent avoiding any world war 3 and becoming the most desirable place to live as the years pass.

The left are most definitely wielding power through NGO’S (such as PETA and stonewall etc) whilst the right holds power through banks, elections and corporations and neither of it is particularly democratic nor particularly in the interests of society.

One fosters selfishness by defining people as only rights and only possessing dignity through having choices with all choices being regarded as equal regardless of their consequences. The other says that only the freedom to have money and property with no recourse to government intervention is freedom and is desirable, again fostering selfishness as both miss a duty to behave in a manner which benefits not only the individual but that of society and also to recognize when society can act adversely to harm the rights of the individual unduly.

Ultimately there is a right and a wrong (unlike what the modern left often believe) and being a person is more than just having the right to “choices”, and more than having the ability to have total monetary freedom and no responsibility to your fellow man. So a women may have a right to her body but she has a duty to the unborn child, to let it enter the world where it is viable and not putting her life at risk to do so.

She is not doing it any favours by killing it, unlike those who suggest that giving it to adoption causes it suffering and that suffering is wrong such an attitude is utterly arrogant and elitist no one has a right to choose who lives or dies.

I have my reservations too but I hate seeing our clubs employees being falsely accused. And people wonder how the huns get away with myth making. Repeat the lie often enough etc.

If you e-mail me your address I’ll copy it throught to you. I doubt if Celtic were going to have a share issue they’d reference Rangers even once in any public documents. I think they are blinded to their own poverties by their unhealthy fixation with Celtic Football Club. You’d think it was Celtic who had been liquidated the way they present their zombie club. They ought to remember they got a licence over others that they should never have been given.

  15. Canamalar Davie Ki was one of the standout players of the Olympics did he not pass Sevco off the park in the game of broonies epoch eclipse when 10man celtic had more than 80% pass completion

The persistent selection of unfit players and risk to Scott Brown’s long term health is as much a bug bear as your own yellow cards and toilet paper

    UNEW MIKE

I agree with a great deal of your post-I said at the time that we had five outfield players and two subs who were short of 100% fitness against Benfica.

That may have been down to the squad declared for CL games-I believe teams are limited to the 25 declared prior to the group stages.

I also have been critical of the decision to allow Brown to continue without the operation and recuperation he so clearly needs. The game is littered with former players who have required hip operations/replacements because the condition went untreated.

And as for the conversion of Joe Ledley from an attacking box-to-box midfielder to what we now have, you could have been tapping my phone,ya bassa!

    I described it as signing Cardiff’s version of Stan Petrov,and ending up with Villa’s Stan Petrov-best wishes,as always,to Stan,btw.

MON was well-known for fielding players who were short of fitness, and perhaps that is where Neil gets it from. Johann, who suffered as much as anyone-Joos Valhaaren aside-should have a word,IMO.

I know I’ve said all of the above before, and it’s about the only criticism of Neil I’ve had to make.

All in all,he’ll do for me.

Just the occasional wee bit of fine-tuning.

  23. Bobby my ears were burning do you also know what happened to “Mick” McManus will he end up in Swindon where he can fallout with DiCanio

If we need a forwards coach I hear Andy Robinson is available or have I mixed up my balls

Fine tuning I thought Miku and lassad have an excellent first touch and natural technique but if they don’t get a chance then what will motivate other “blue chip” signings

If Celtic do not qualify for the last 16 there is a very real possibilty that our midfield lynchpin Mr67 will be elsewhere in

    January

I have defended Joe Ledley to the hilt future captain in making and I agree with your Stan Petrov Analogy (Get well soon stan)

McManus seems to have gently drifted off the radar. The move to Boro did not go well for him,and his loan moves to Bristol City have been disastrous due to injuries.

I think he has barely played fifty games since leaving us,which is not good.

If ever he wishes to join Swindon Town,I suggest he get a new agent instead. Di Canio has never once lost a game due to poor tactical nous,a bad referee,or a bad day at the office. He ALWAYS blames the players, naming the individuals publicly.

Not many of the fans still back him,it seems. The rumblings of discontent will only increase as the dressing-room morale plummets.

I want him terrorising them with his running, passing, movement, and ability to get on the end of a move.
