I had some difficulty explaining to my boys why I wanted Aberdeen to win the League Cup yesterday, the desirability of having an even-stronger Aberdeen was lost on them after last month’s chastening experiences.
There are those who will tell you Scottish football, and Celtic in particular, need a strong Sevco. That argument is incorrect and ultimately futile, there isn’t going to be a strong Sevco, not in this decade, anyway. What Celtic would benefit most from is if those 40,000 Aberdeen fans fortify their club, which subsequently transforms into an increased football budget. They will hopefully land their own version of the treble this season, two cups and the Best of the Rest title.
If that helps them to shift 20,000 season tickets this summer, their status as the second force in the land will be cemented.
Kilmarnock fans will, almost to a man, be delighted to hear Michael Johnston is stepping down as chairman, although he will remain on the board. The corresponding clearing of their £9.4m debt in a deal with new investor, Billy Bowie, means there is one less financial basket case in Scotland.
Still buzzing after CQteN. I’ll announced the confirmed figure raised for Mary’s Meals Malawi appeal later in the week but I can confirm that on top of the school kitchen at the Kholoni Primary School (pictured below), we have money in to build a kitchen at St Joseph’s Boys School, Kasungu, and Chiphaso Boys School, also in Kasungu.
Yet again your generosity went above and beyond the call. Thank you. If you were not involved earlier you can change that here.
Thanks to Paddybhoy1888, who did a fantastic job with the beanies, more on this soon. The Academy Award goes BJmac, for his outstanding video of the CQteN Dream Team. The video featured every player to represent Celtic in the 10 years of the blog, which the 11 members of the Dream Team, with manager and subs, selected by you. You’ll enjoy it:
We still have some raffle prizes to announce and distribute, so check the blog for the rest of the week as winners will be notified.
Seville, the Celtic Movement, was launched on Friday, to some pretty decent reviews.
“I watched Sean dance animatedly with sheer delight on his face. At that moment any regrets I still had about not actually getting to Seville vanished. I would not have wanted to have missed the chance to celebrate with my own, as well as, the Celtic family.”

The Singing Detective Demands The Resignation Of Campbell Ogilvie
00.27 00.29
I read you’re two posts differently. I believe you mean the first post but I believe the second post is banter.
I think the thrust of your first post is wrong.
I was in Dingwall last season when TW was given a surprise start. Within 25 minutes he was bent double throwing up on the grass.
Notwithstanding where a teenager full of his self-importance expects to play, it should always be unacceptable to a professional club that a player takes to the field ill-prepared for the game.

I Tire.
I tire of meeting
Amazing people,
those luminous souls
that make this tiny ball,
a place to cherish.
I tire of learning of
their accomplishments
of their personalities,
of the effect they had
on those they met,
those
they loved.
I tire of making these discoveries,
of learning of these
treasured souls
when it is far too late
for me to ever have the chance
to shake their hands,
to share a word,
to hear their voice
to witness their gift,
while they draw in the same air,
in the same space that
I inhabit with them.
I tire of living
and learning of those lives
most lived
after they have ceased to be.
I tire…….

In my memory I will always see
The town that I have loved so well
Where our school played ball by the gasyard wall
And we laughed through the smoke and the smell
Going home in the rain, running up the dark lane
Past the jail and down behind the fountain
Those were happy days in so many many ways
In the town I loved so well
In the early morning the shirt factory horn
Called women from Creggan, the moor and the bog
While the men on the dole played a mother’s role
Fed the children and then trained the dog
And when times got tough there was just about enough
But they saw it through without complaining
For deep inside was a burning pride
In the town I loved so well
There was music there in the Derry air
Like a language that we all could understand
I remember the day that I earned my first pay
When I played in a small pick-up band
There I spent my youth and to tell you the truth
I was sad to leave it all behind me
For I’d learned about life and I found a wife
In the town I loved so well
But when I returned how my eyes have burned
To see how a town could be brought to its knees
By the armoured cars and the bombed-out bars
And the gas that hangs on to every breeze
Now the army’s installed by that old gasyard wall
And the damned barbed wire gets higher and higher
With their tanks and their guns, oh my God what have they done
To the town I loved so well
Now the music’s gone but they carry on
For their spirit’s been bruised, never broken
They will not forget but their hearts are set
On tomorrow and peace once again
For what’s done is done and what’s won is won
And what’s lost is lost and gone forever
I can only pray for a bright brand-new day
In the town I loved so well
for oor Aussie chaps! braw

Looks like you’re going to have to explain it to quite a few people on here too.

why we didn,t field Biton against the Dons (read sheep) and lost the midfield and so the cup tie is another matter ….but the underlying point is …we need a counterweight of some description…..

“If VVD MUST be sold then I would say this…..he is a better centre half at the same age than Rio Ferdinand was and he went to Leeds first for 18M then MUFC nearly 30M ….and that was 12 years ago.
Anything less is commercial incompetence really…….?”
Commercial incompetence by who? Groningen??

have a good Boxing St Pats…. :) I,m off to me scratcher …..but here is a wee braw bit …
My ‘place of clear water,’
the first hill in the world
where springs washed into
the shiny grass
and darkened cobbles
in the bed of the lane.
Anahorish, soft gradient
of consonant, vowel-meadow,
after-image of lamps
swung through the yards
on winter evenings.
With pails and barrows
those mound-dwellers
go waist-deep in mist
to break the light ice
at wells and dunghills.
may your thoughts be worthy ……braw the top bit is from seamus though ……in case you believed the Jameson adverts ! hahahahaha braw

To be fair,we didn’t exactly beat off allcomers to sign Virgil. His performances with us to date have been immense, and very mature for his age.
We know what we have. And so too do his various suitors.
Never mind the comparisons with Rio,that was a while ago.
Just look at the likes of Smalling or Jones.
He is considerably better than both, start the bidding at eight figures and keep going.
Even better, tell them all to eff off,he’s ours!

Pal
Nice to talk to you and to respond to your comments.
However,I do not really wish to reopen the whole subject,as I`m well aware that it is controversial.
My references to De Valera were stimulated by ongoing Brit bashing and criticism of the British conduct of the war. The bombing of Dresden and the dropping of the A-bomb were described as among the worst atrocities of the war.
I thought that was a bit rich.
Churchill was desperate for Ireland to take her part in the defeat of Hitler,to the extent, apparently, of offering the reunification of Ireland .
That`s what Churchill wanted and I`m happy to take my cue from him.
Cheers.

Get your money on Dundee utd getting a player red carded in the semi…….
Guaranteed

Aye, I wouldn’t bet against that or the penalty they’re sure to get.
If, on the off chance the semi ends in a draw, is the replay at Ipox as well?

You seem desperate to wrap yourself in the union flag and bash the Irish neutrality during WW2 at every opportunity .
Churchill only wanted Irish help as he was desperate to save the British Empire that is all. He wished to embroil a neutral country in a conflict with Nazi Germany to serve that purpose. In fact he was so desperate for Irish ‘help’ he had invasion plans for Ireland drawn up. As for offering ‘full Independence’ ; revisionist nonsense no actual official offer was made just vague hint. And just why would the Irish trust the English and Churchill to keep their word has? Wasn’t Churchill part of the English team that dissected Ireland whilst lying through their teeth. Continuing with your revisionist version of history you abjectly fail to mention that it was less than 20 years since Britain’s very own version of the SS (The Auxiliary’s) were rampaging through Ireland or centuries of massacres and starvation inflicted on the Irish by the British but yet the Irish nation are supposed to come to the aid of the British Empire simply because Churchill asked? Finally The Irish people never saw England as the “mother-nation” centuries of rebellions against the British occupation are testament to this fact. Ireland owed Britain nothing, Irish Neutrality is enshrined in the of the constitution of Ireland.
One last thing to consider ‘ IF ‘ Churchill had offered Irish independence wouldn’t he have been ‘selling out’ the tens of thousands of ‘loyal Ulster Scots’ who sons and fathers had died willing flinging themselves at German machine positions in order to ‘save the British Empire’ in WW1. Another wee promise Churchill intended to break to further his own political ends.
There is absolutely no possibility of The Rangers getting a penalty v Dundee United. To get a penalty, you have to first venture into the opposition’s penalty box.
United will hammer them 4-0.
Morning Jobo
Not much better up dunblane way either. Dreich with the possibility of an outbreak of dryness later!
Top of the morning to ya
HH jamesgang
Frank ryans whisky some good points but what has Ireland done with this great independence is the question. As I find myself back in Scotland at this time of independence debate I think of ireland. One word that springs to mind is “basketcase” those who fought for independence would be spinning in their graves today. As I’ve said before they fought fir 800 years to shake off the yolk of empire and as2016 looms have cocked it up in less a century!
Morning all. Miserable weather down here again today.
Could any of our financial people explain if King has got anywhere in his latest shenanigans or is it all stuff and nonsense signifying nothing?
BBC weather for the week: here more wind and rain, even some sleet and thunder thrown in. Carol was smiling as she said it. I think that is because it is much worse here than down south.
On the school run second day running…..GQTen obviously too much for the good lady….
bonus is I’ll take the new car means I can use Spotify…this motnings choice the Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band….looking forward to the kids reactions…hee hee! Caught up with the Spider Murphy Gang yesterday …Bavarian rock n roll band…indulgent memories…!
Dundee United will need to be up for the semi from kick off…will be interesting to see which referee is selected..
have fun everyone
