There will be goals

733

Dundee have played 12 games since losing 6-0 at Celtic Park in September, scoring in all but one of those occasions. Only Celtic and Aberdeen have kept them out in 21 games this season. They lost five last time out to Ross County (scoring twice), but scored four against Accies the week before. Season tickets at Dens are excellent value for money. There will be goals when Celtic visit tomorrow.

Kane Hemmings scored five of their six goals against County and Accies. He’s a direct player who makes runs from deep into space but a large portion of his goals come as a consequence of defensive errors. In short, he appears to run at defenders in anticipation of them making a mistake, not a wholly unproductive strategy for strikers playing against Celtic this season.

Ronny Deila will be keen Celtic build on the positives from Tynecastle, although the on-going absence of Leigh Griffiths will be a concern. I reckon we would have seen Carlton Cole at some point against Hearts if it were not for the plethora of injuries which restricted the manager’s options. Hearts had done their homework on Nadir Ciftci, who was well marshalled throughout. He can expect a similar night tomorrow.

Partick Thistle’s role in the title race will come into focus over the next week. They are on an excellent run ahead of tomorrow’s visit to Pittodrie at Saturday’s game at Celtic Park, having won their last four league games. You can win two Premium Seat tickets in the Jock Stein Stand for Saturday’s game, courtesy of Magners, if you answer this question:

Who was the last Partick Thistle manager to win four consecutive top flight games?

Email your answer in the SUBJECT line to celticquicknews@gmail.com before 17:00 tomorrow (30th). My Partick Thistle knowledge is limited, so editors decision if final……

And if you are so minded, having read what you’ve done already for Mary’s Meals in 2015, you can donate a £1 or so towards them here. Many thanks…………

4 subs in the second half, a couple of stoppages for injury and at 88 mins Thistle player hurt and with his legs still on the field of play, much to the annoyance of the Sheep players, he is down for a good 3 mins.

Justified yes, if it was the Celts well………….

“Finally I detect a little bit of past life fear which is when we think what happened”

*I fully concur with Auldheid here; there are some who are living in fear of the reincarnation of the bigots. And rightly so.

Instead of moving forward we could be going back to a time 118 years ago when a plucky wee side from the east end of Glasgow in only their 10th year in existence won their 4th League title in a competition that was only in its 8th season.

While the Kinning Park boatmen had only half a title to its name, the other half belonged to the Super Sons, even though they had been around for 26 years by then.

After they won 4-in-a-row we ourselves embarked on a record setting 6-in-a-row run. This must have grated the custodians at Park Gardens and the fix was now on tae stop the tarriers.

By this time the original establishment club had remained amateur and were no longer a power house and their favoured successors Third Lanark failed tae live up tae their promise with only won 1 solitary title which would remain their one and only until their demise in that great year of 1967.

Other strong sides from the infancy of the game, 1st shared title winners and 2nd year champions Dumbarton, World Champion and alma mata of our 1st captain and 1st goalscorer Renton and the Vale of Leven who ten years before that great Renton side travelled down to England and beat the FA Cup winners The Wanderers 3-1 at Kennington Oval, were from small towns and villages that could not sustain a major side anymore.

The season after their 4-in-a-row win archbigot primrose ure became chairman of the former West End Park side and immediately “pledged” the original boating club to the “craft”.

Until 1920 they were run fairly honestly and then two men went out tae row and only one returned.

Primrose ure and the new manager now started tae recruit among the ranks of goat shaggin and tangerine ludges, not just players but fans, business associates, tradesmen, clerks, accountants, policemen, judicial officers of the court and most importantly the media who would champion the cause of the new establishment club, quietly in some places but very vocally from the stands and terracings. This quickly allowed them to have amazing success in the League championship.

However, they did struggle in the one off cup games which we were more successful in but in a period of 45 years and prior to the return of the Big Mhan we only won 6 more titles.

Great players who walked through the Parkhead Gates such as the Prince of Goalscorers James Edward only won 3 championship badges, Jimmy Delaney and Malky McDonald 2 each, Patsy Gallacher 2, Willie and Jimmy McStay only 1 each after “The Pledge”, Charles Patrick, John McPhail, Sean Fallon Bobby Collins Willie Fernie only 1 each.

And the greatest goalie the world has ever seen “from the Wellesley Fife he came” none. This was during a period that the history books record as “Celtic had begun to stutter in the 1920’s having been a powerful side up to then. The zombies were now (with favour from certain quarters) achieving repeat success.”

Now I know that fingers will be pointed at our board’s parsimonious “biscuit tin” mentality but until the summer of 1967 that rotten mob wurnae exactly throwing other people’s money about like a man with no erms. A man with no legs would do that later.

There is a God though and their arrogance and comeuppance came in the guise of a rugby supporting ayrshire rag and bone man whose egotism to not only emulate or even surpass the genius that was Celtic but also tae loosen the pockets and wallets of those that were so blind they wouldn’t see.

The fact that we managed tae accumulate titles and trophies through the years is down tae the amazing support who have stood by the club through all the adversity that has been thrown at it.

As the late great TB said “They’re there and they’re always there and God bless every one of them.”

Now more than ever the club need the fans on their side. Don’t think that that mob of free transfers and loan players will not be a threat. It’s not them or eat the breid that we have tae worry about.

The main threat resides at humpden. Not one SFA, SFL SPL or sevco minded match official has been fired, Ok the Bothwell windae salesman got the sugar lump but that was at the insistence of the RC Church and even then he landed on his feet with a job in Geneva where he still weilds his ABC power, the only acceptable punishment, as proven by the Court of Sessions was expulsion and they refused to do that

They have plenty of their games televised; both at home and abroad, in an effort tae make them out as still a big club.

FFS they also get tae pick the officials for their games. Since the 3rd Division they’ve always had Premier League Officials. WTF is that all about if not tae ensure their survival. But for the incompetence of their last 3 managers they would be challenging us by now.

    As Auldheid also said:

“Remember they could only compete with us by cheating and as long as something is done to stop a repeat and CELTIC can make demands when the time is right on that front then we have nothing to worry about.

However if we do stay silent when the time comes (which will be after appeal process on ebts end and court cases allow matters that have been buried to surface ) then CELTIC will have to act just to protect themselves.”

As the late George Santayana and later repeated by winnie the pooh once said “those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it”

Now we are a lot further on in society from the post WWI era in top notch positions in business, industry and legal, as the pumping of the “greatest referee in the world” has proven.

It’s now time to push forward the advantage that the men and women who went before us laboured and died for.

Failure to do so will see us at the back of the bus again.

  11. The long wait is over One of the thistle defenders lay injured half on half off the pitch for about 2 minutes. They were going mental about it , and thistle were indulging in some serious time wasting, so maybe 5 minutes was about right.

Well said sir.Too many on here wanting Celtic to fail. As Tony would say lurking Huns G IRFUY

  13. Mixed views on cancellation of tonight’s game

Was looking forward to watching the game on TV over a few beers

On other hand after the community singing at Ibrokes on Monday, I suspect our club / fans were a cough and a couple of farts away from a whataboutery summit.

We can now look forward to the transfer window

I am fairly confident we will come out of this stronger than we enter, for simple reason that I don’t think we have anyone who would attract more than a £2/3 million offer – Bitton may, but I doubt it

Same also applies to summer window.

We are also fortunate, in that we don’t need anyone to get us through till the end of May – possibly a centre back, but we should have enough in our current squad

A good window for me would be

    – VVD and Big Vic each moving on for £20m + and us getting 15/20% of the profit on both

    – Sign 1/2 players with a view to next season’s CL qualifiers and let them settle in over next 5 months

    – Clear out deadwood / guys who need a change of club / aren’t good enough / Ronny doesn’t fancy Boerrighter, Stokes,GMS, Cifci ,Janko, Blackett, Scepovic ( permanent exit)

I know Santa has already been, but hopefully not too much to ask for

  15. I got dragged to that Star Wars fillum as a family event over Christmas.

I am not a fan of the originals but I saw the original trilogy nearly 40 years ago and did not like them then.

Is it just me or is this new one not basically a re-hash of one of those plots- just with a bigger Death Star?

    ———————

It’s basically the original trilogy updated and made into 1 movie, good watch for the fans but nothing ground breaking. The director made sure fans could tick off all the good parts from the originals while watching the movie.

I assume the next 2 films will try to do things differently.

  17. Good eveing friends. It’s dark.

Only 3 league losses in 2015 – 1 from last season (St Johnstone away) and 2 from this (Aberdeen away and Motherwell home. Excellent.

We are level on points with Aberdeen but we’re 17 goals better off and 2 games in hand. Excellent.

Our league games in January are home ties against Partick and St Johnstone and a trip to Dundee Utd; Aberdeen have to visit St Johnstone and Ross County along with a home tie against Dundee. I reckon we have the more favourable schedule in January. Excellent.

We also start our Scottish Cup campaign at Stranraer and end the month at Hampden against Ross County in the League Cup Semi. Getting folk to get along and support us that day would be excellent.

    Sleep well.
