There will be goals

733

Dundee have played 12 games since losing 6-0 at Celtic Park in September, scoring in all but one of those occasions. Only Celtic and Aberdeen have kept them out in 21 games this season. They lost five last time out to Ross County (scoring twice), but scored four against Accies the week before. Season tickets at Dens are excellent value for money. There will be goals when Celtic visit tomorrow.

Kane Hemmings scored five of their six goals against County and Accies. He’s a direct player who makes runs from deep into space but a large portion of his goals come as a consequence of defensive errors. In short, he appears to run at defenders in anticipation of them making a mistake, not a wholly unproductive strategy for strikers playing against Celtic this season.

Ronny Deila will be keen Celtic build on the positives from Tynecastle, although the on-going absence of Leigh Griffiths will be a concern. I reckon we would have seen Carlton Cole at some point against Hearts if it were not for the plethora of injuries which restricted the manager’s options. Hearts had done their homework on Nadir Ciftci, who was well marshalled throughout. He can expect a similar night tomorrow.

Partick Thistle’s role in the title race will come into focus over the next week. They are on an excellent run ahead of tomorrow’s visit to Pittodrie at Saturday’s game at Celtic Park, having won their last four league games. You can win two Premium Seat tickets in the Jock Stein Stand for Saturday’s game, courtesy of Magners, if you answer this question:

Who was the last Partick Thistle manager to win four consecutive top flight games?

Email your answer in the SUBJECT line to celticquicknews@gmail.com before 17:00 tomorrow (30th). My Partick Thistle knowledge is limited, so editors decision if final……

And if you are so minded, having read what you’ve done already for Mary’s Meals in 2015, you can donate a £1 or so towards them here. Many thanks…………

Why would they do that then? The last 7 seem to be following the Police Academy franchise formula of changing nothing but the silly voices.

Disney had to recoup the massive outlay and relaunch the brand. Best way to do that is take all the favourite bits from the originals and make a sure thing. Job done.

Next movie will have to try and be original as they’ve used up all the old ideas.

Not a good side to watch yet we put 6 past Dundee, 5 past D Utd, 4 past Inverness, 3 past Aberdeen. All at home and still you’re not happy, time to follow another sport as you’ll never be happy watching Celtic and football.

Results have been kind to us… Let’s hope 2 games in hand translate in to 6 points. Hopefully Griffiths will be back in action soon to give us the goals we need.

Have to imagine a central defender on the January list. Doesn’t have to be top drawer just a basic no nonsense presence who can retain focus – ideally with a wee bit of pace to compliment ball playing but slow Simunovic.

It’s time to put up or shut up laddie.

Aged 25 with 180 appearances and he’s still regarded as a promising younger.

His initial promise has not been realized.

His contributions recently have been minimal and in one recent instance harmful.

His work rate is suspect. I believe he’s lazy and doesn’t support his team mates.

I’d hate to be the full back faced with a winger backed by an attacking full back getting the freedom of the wing as James shrugs his shoulders and appears more concerned with keeping his hair style in place than keeping the full back honest.

His strike rate is another unremarkable aspect of his career to date.

Less than 30 goals or a goal in every 6 appearances is hardly a rate to inspire admiration.

His assists have dried up as he consistently gets channeled knto the centre of the defence and is forced to play a back or sideways pass to a midfielder with nowhere to go.

He has been full of unfulfilled eastern promise for too long.

At 24 Craig, Gemmel, Murdoch, Johnstone and Lennox had European cup medals to add to their growing collection of honours.

It’s time to step up James for the second half of the season or ply your trade elsewhere.

    A Deflection Failure

As I write this site has achieved 1.7m hits since inception fifteen weeks ago. I would like to think that those who have taken the time to read my articles and make comments will at the very least be much better informed than they were prior to this site’s genesis. I realize that my views challenge established orthodoxies and preconceptions. I make no apology for this.

On Monday Mark Warburton’s team prevailed against Hibs in a ‘six point’ game at Ibrox. However this has been largely forgotten as approaching 50,000 supporters sang a proscribed song. The Vanguard Bears, one of the more respected Rangers sites, welcomed the return of this song. But as I watched on I knew a media storm was on its way. Chris Graham of the RST also foresaw the fallout. He created a narrative that beggared belief. He suggested that the supporters actually sang that they were up to their knees in EBTs;  and when Graham Spiers and Tom Morton reported on the actual use of ‘fenian blood‘ they would be exposed as Rangers haters. Graham and another individual with even less sense than his mentor suggested that EBT and Fenian Blood were synonyms. Is it any wonder he lasted only 48 hours as a director with this paradigm shift in stupidity?

Rangers issued a statement at 18.30. It stated that the transgressions were the responsibility of a minority and that the club would liaise with Police Scotland in identifying those responsible for the unacceptable behaviour. Which will lead to the inescapable conclusion that almost 50,000 were responsible. Thirty-three thousand of these are season ticket holders.  With their seat numbers and CCTV they could easily identify them. Would the police then follow up with arrests? Would perpetrators be charged under the Offensive Behaviour at Football (Scotland) Act? Would those arrested by the police consider themselves to be ‘sacrificial lambs’ for a much greater malaise?

The question no-one has asked is why did they choose to sing this proscribed song. There are a number of factors. The first of which is Hibs who to all intents and purposes are Celtic-lite. The liquidation of Rangers and the creation of a new club has deprived these supporters of their familiar nemesis. The club for which they reserve their most deep-seated hatred. Then there is the onslaught by CFC supporters (and others) who have mercilessly mocked their club’s demise and even went so far as to publish an advertisement in The Herald to disassociate themselves from a club they refer to as Sevco. When Craig Whyte put the club into liquidation, many feared that there would never be a vital Rangers team playing in a competitive match at Ibrox. I’m not condoning  their behaviour. I agree with the board that this was unacceptable. There will be ramifications. The SPFL and SFA, who on occasions like these engage in a  game of pass the parcel in the expectation that the music will never stop, will be forced to act as the  FAI (Football Association of Ireland) will almost certainly petition UEFA to suspend Scotland from international football for not censuring a club whose supporters engaged in an anti- Irish anthem. If Je Suis Graham had led the choir and we replaced fenian with muslim blood, the club would be closed down within days. The SNP knitting bee that is The Scottish Executive would be set aside as London would intervene.

Some enterprising individuals decided to contact Scottish football sponsors, William Hill, via Twitter.  A spokesman for William Hill stated : “Obviously, we don’t condone what was sung and expect the relevant authorities to deal with the situation.”  Then there is the problem that the broadcasters have faced when screening Rangers games. If they and the sponsors chose to walk away due to this unacceptable behaviour, which offended their subscribers, then armageddon would be on its way to the Scottish game as a whole.

There is one other reason for the anthem at Ibrox. These supporters believe that they have the ‘right’ to denigrate the Irish. In my considered opinion, the SFA will collude with the SPFL to wash their hands off this. They will defer to the club, a few fans will be suspended until next season  or possibly sine die. We will then move forward as if nothing ever happened.

I posted previously that JF should be converted to an out and out centre forward. I pointed out that initially his goal to chances ratio would remain low but that he’d get so many chance he’d be a 20 goals/ season front man.

He is a poor man’e Walcott and I think the same solution should be applied.

Celtic have the ability to retain the ball , draw out defences to create the space that JF would exploit with his electric pace.

Like you – I think he is in the last chance saloon and continuing doing what he’s always done will only reap the results ( performances) he has given to date.

I think other clubs in Championship will have spotted his potential but as you point out, at 25 years old this now needs to be realised.

  21. Good morning friends. Dark grey, damp underfoot but currently nothing is falling from the sky. In ole East Kilbride.

Right, that’s one job finished for this year; just the real one to go….

  22. I find the general criticism of JF inexplicable , he is getting it the neck for tripping up a bloke 30 yards from goal, still Effe got the same treatment for giving away a foul on the touch line at Pitoddre ……. Which was one of our 3 league defeats in 2015.

The opposition generally retreat 10 to 15 yards when Jamsie is in the starting line up , the talk of last chance for the wee ghuy is way of the mark ,from my vantage point in the North Stand.
