Time on the bench gave Hooper space

1040

This season, Gary Hooper has looked well below form of last term; his touch, movement and goals record don’t match up, but he came off the bench on Thursday to score a truly excellent goal.  Controlling a difficult ball in the centre circle, with defenders in close attendance, he picked out Giorgios Samaras before sprinting past his markers and finishing.

The winner against Motherwell was less spectacular but required sharp movement and spatial awareness.

Footballers cannot always play through bad form, sometimes they need a break, even for an hour on the bench, to get a different perspective on how they and the team play.

Despite his return to form I would retain the same 4-2-3-1 formation against Inverness next time out.

Issue 4 of CQN Magazine is out next week, let me know if you would like to advertise, celticquicknews@gmail.com.

Wish I’d read that before posting!

Paul67 – is Phil simply ensuring the board are aware of the general feeling? (by writing the article?)

    What’s Phil’s strategy on this?

I previously enquired in any of the board ‘happy clappers’ are willing to stick their heids above the parapet now! Go on try and support your arguments now -” they are doing what is best for the club in the long run”. Please explain why we have had to watch the quality of our team decline so dramatically in a few seasons (Chris Sutton to Kris Killen?) The cheap option managers anon, go on justify their actions if this is true

I fervently pray that Phil has got this one wrong

    ———-

I’ve marked a key reason as to why nobody has to justify their support of the board to you or anyone else (not they should have to justify it to anyone – each is entitled to their own opinion).

‘Unless he is writing this to cause effect and create a fan reaction to ensure the board do the right thing.’

More likely he’s been fed a line by the hierarchy either to test the reaction, or as part of an expectation management exercise.

Sow the seeds of a dreadful outcome in the hope that a slightly less bad outcome will be accepted if not welcomed.

  4. I remember a rumour on Cup Final morning, verse Motherwell that Hugh Dallas was to be part of the BBC commentary team.

I reacted with disbelief and indignation, and I was so angry, I nearly wrote an email.

He wasn’t of course, it was a rumour via a good guy, and good guys get it wrong sometimes.

It is the mood of DD on the day of the vote that worries me, especially if one of his companies has made a loss of more than 50p that morning. The guy could peel an Orange in his pocket without letting on… HH

  7. Let’s make no mistake the Celtic Board have previous when it comes to bailing out the uglies.

    1. The CR Smith Deal.

    2. The Tennants Deal.

    3. Failing to make investments to bury them in WGS had them on the hook.

PL and the Board are the only reason that they are still afloat today. If they had done their job correctly then this debate would be in the past.

I fully expect the board to support them , help them out ,save their skins. The sad thing is that if the shoe was on the other foot there would not even be a debate – we would be in receivership and they would laugh at our dead history every day – in fact they would probably have an annual march to commemorate us going out of business.

However if the board do agree to save them they need to understand what that would do to Celtic.

I and many of us would never ever go back to the farce that is Scottish Football. I think that the stadium would be 70% empty every week. Merchandising sales would fall through the floor , the thunder would be not much more than a fart with the accompanying smell. Sky TV would abandon us and the game would dissolve – Rangers would then spend like hell safe in the knowledge that if they go bust again no problem. At least 4 other SPL teams would do a Rangers and not one financial institution would support our game, no clubs outside of Scotland would sell a player to a Scottish team.

PL / DD – make your choice.

Kill them off or kill us off.

Here’s one for the irony pile…

The Scottish Government’s CashBack for Communities initiative puts proceeds of crime confiscated by the courts to a good use.

The Scottish FA is one of four national CashBack sports partners of the Scottish Government.

Ray Kroc, the man who built McDonalds.

IF the rumours are true, then our board are throwing Rangers a lifebelt instead of giving them the garden hose. Then again, they’ve had teh chance to get the hose out in the past (transfer windows) but chose not to.

  13. How about we make a deal with the Celtic board on this one that with Rangers gone we guarentee we’ll renew our season books?

If they are so worried about the drop in income with none of Satans minions around maybe we should let them know that we’ll do everything in our power to make that transition worth the gamble.

says it all. the current celtic board do not have the celtic supports interest

    as their main concern.

our feelings shouldnt need “made known”.

Your post makes sense, however my anger is also that Celtic are not lobbying the other clubs or the SFA the same way the huns will be.

Do you honestly feel it will be a vote free of lobbying, if there is only once outcome being lobbied for, the it will be that outcome which is successful.

Yes, our vote alone can’t secure the correct and just result, however our apathy to how the vote should go is as much a disgrace as supporting the huns in their quest to avoid all responsibility for their actions (stealing 5 league championships from us).

Celtic should be actively pursuing justice as part of this whole process, not simply letting the huns lobby and secure the outcome they need.

    Paul

Thanks for the clarification about the Newco deal, lets hope its correct, but I couldn’t see any reasons that Celtic would support the huns unless we had some hidden debt/liability as well,

However there seems to be a train of thought that suggests even if celtic vote no for the huns the other SPL teams will vote yes

    Would this mean that

    a) The huns only points penalty is a 10 point deduction

    b) The huns could potentially still be on 4 in a row

    c) The huns would still play at ibrox

    d) The huns would not pay their creditors

    e) The huns would be debt free

    f) The huns might be called something slightly different like Glasgow huns or something like that

    g) The debt free huns would be free to attract new investment

Frankly if this is allowed to happen, it would be a disaster for Celtic

I was more hoping for a situation whereby

    a) The huns would sell their stadium

    b) The huns would sell their players

    c) The huns got flung out of the SPL

    d) The huns got banned from Europe

    e) The huns were left penniless

Which of these scenarios is the most likely?

  19. Hmm,

Any chance it’s an International break as the blog seems to be teetering on that point of “I’ll have you, ya….” bickering. Usually follows that one or other will say “scroll on by if you don’t like what I have to say..” or “I’ll scroll by as you don’t half speak some sh!…..”

Usually this would be good enough but I know that others will now join in as the day goes by to take a side and join in. The word muppet will be used, quickly followed by Hun, and very soon there will posts in CAPITALS asking “where are yer seats? I’ll meet ye before ….. outside the Pie Stall.”

Eventually MWD, James Forrest or some equally elegant and sensible (and usually funny to boot) poster will put something up here which we all enjoy reading and the bickering will calm down again…….

….well until Ireland qualifies and Scotland fans arent happy and the SFA support discussion happens around a Poppy / songs debate and we’ll end up back bickering or reading some god awful posts about green huns and filth and it’s all just a way of getting through to the ICT v TheSuperHoops match.

Remember, we’re all Tims, and I’m sure everyone of you have posted that the reason you love Celtic (and this blog) is partly due to the magnificent fellow fans (during good times and bad).

Keep it that way if you can and kiss and make up (and defintiely no flouncing as it ruins it for you and us :-))

I’ll poke my nose out and go back to lurking when I’ve time now, but I’m sure the bloggers will blog and the rest of us will read and laugh (or even scroll on by) until the next match.

  21. In the event of a 10 to 1 vote where we claim that we did all we could to prevent the coming storm then would the Aberdeen board of directors be liable to the same lynching as ours if they agreed to give Rangers a lifeline?

If the PLC do deal with the devil to the extent of OF collusion then the Celtic FC I knew and grew up supporting will be gone. You are correct that it is not he who owns the greatest share in the club who is Celtic but us the support. Unfortunately though he who owns the greatest share has the largest say with regards policy. If the current incumbents decide this is the best policy for the club I’ll be back when they have gone and more suitable people are running us.

In the interim ill take up window shopping, dress making or even modelling.

    MWD

  23. bjmac – I think the board will be lobbying strongly as if this goes through they will lose face. They will lose face as the huns have tread the opposite path to us, they have cheated their way to success at our expense, then to compound it they get off scot free.

It is a public statement that our board got it badly wrong by adhering to the law of the land. They will not roll over and have their belly tickled on that, not after the hassle they have had for their chosen path.

I for one would be stunned if they do not vociferously lobby clubs as to what the right thing to do is and to point out the fiscal consequences of wiping the hun slate clean.

  24. I have an aversion to anyone attempting to manipulate me by taking the obvious emotive scare factor and suggesting that it is fact.

Opinions are one thing, and even raising possibilities are another. But, and this is a criticism that we have all had of the MSM for epochs, Headlines, controversy and circulation become the holy grail. Circulation in internet terms become ‘no of unique hits’!

Such is the perniciousness of propaganda!

I try and stay away from all this newco stuff but when I see good Celtic men on here arguing over opposing ‘rumours’ it is clear that we are becoming more divided by the day. Somebody is rubbing their hands in glee.

Paul and Phil may be both correct. That’s right! They are both reporting faithfully what they have been told.

Now whoever heard of a Celtic board being disingenuous.

    “Why would they do that”.

Well if Phil has been given certain confidential gen, publishes it and causes a wave of dissent, and then Paul asks his own contact to comment on it…guess what he/she is NOT going to say ‘oh aye we are about to do a deal with the devil”. Doesn’t mean they won’t.

I’ll stick to being a cynic. That and Celtic Football club, oh and my dinner which is on the go, Sheryll Crow and Sharkeys oh and a hundred other things like for instance ‘daughters who don’t just love my wallet’ (they told me that with a straight face and I believed their sad wee rabbit eyes) are what keep me happy. :-)
