Tynecastle perfect venue for stumbling Celtic

396

There can hardly be a better venue for Celtic to visit after a poor result than Tynecastle. The focus, which was so badly missing last weekend, is always evident there. As a consequence, we have a remarkably good record at what, on paper, should be one of the more difficult grounds to visit.

We should also see a tactical tightening. The empty acres behind the Celtic defence which Motherwell were able to exploit will surely be better defended tomorrow.

The postponement of the Hamilton game earlier this month, together with the loss last week, has given the league table a more competitive look. Last season this scenario was too much for Aberdeen, who stumbled at Dundee. It’ll be interesting to see how they deal with the Highlanders this afternoon.

Delighted to read this morning that the Celtic FC Foundation are helping Mary’s Meals in Kenya, as well as War Child, on the back of the stunning success of their Christmas appeal.

What a club!

  2. Dallas Dallas where the heck is Dallas on 26th December 2015 5:33 pm

A belated merry christmas to all. I hope posters and their families had a great day.

Good result for us today at Pittodrie. From what I gather the Shug Dallas disciple today, made two further wrong penalty calls added to those he made at Falkirk last week. I think two or three red cards he has dished out this season, have been rescinded. Unbelievable this buffoon has got so far. The Shugster has a lot to answer for in the alleged development of our ref. Although not officially in charge, he seems to still hold an unhealthy amount of influence.

*To think that eyes in the back of his heid will represent Scotland in Euro 2016, he’ll be an effin embarrassment, then again no different to his mentor who’s record outside the country is as scandalous as it is in it.

In the first match at the 1998 FIFA World Cup he sent off 2 players, decisions which divided opinion. More than a decade later, he admitted to surprise and disappointment at being overlooked for the later stages of the competition.[

UEFA offered him police protection after he awarded Italy a controversial late penalty in their 2–1 win over Turkey at Euro 2000. The Turkey coach Mustafa Denizli called the decision “unforgivable” while furious Turkish fans jeered and pelted Dallas with missiles.[

He presided over AC Milan’s exit from the 2000/01 UEFA Champions League, in a 1–1 draw at the San Siro which The New York Times described as “a game of two dubious penalties.” A sequence of controversial decisions saw the crowd pelt Dallas with missiles including coins, fruit, bottles and cigarette lighters as he left the field under police protection.

During the 2002 FIFA World Cup tournament, Portugal objected to Dallas’ selection for their group-stage game with Poland, referring to their experience with Dallas during UEFA Euro 2000. Portugal went on to win the match 4–0.

Dallas refereed the quarter–final between the USA and Germany. Early in the second half, he declined to award a penalty kick to the USA after a shot by Gregg Berhalter was blocked on the goal line by the outstretched arm of defender Torsten Frings. After what was described as the “refereeing oversight,” German goalkeeper Oliver Kahn admitted “we were lucky.” Dallas defended his decision on the grounds that Frings did not intend to handle the ball, commenting “If it’s not intentional it’s not a foul, no matter where it is.”

In the same match Dallas cautioned Oliver Neuville for a foul committed by his teammate Jens Jeremies, having mistaken their identities. Although Dallas attested to the backing of his refereeing inspector over the incidents, FIFA remarked upon their “concern [at] one or two major mistakes.”

And then there was that game in which he patted wee vantrannies erse on the way tae the corner flag and gave a nothing penalty when the big Oz chapel goer dived in the box.

After being appointed head of referee development he was soon involved in a public dispute with manager Jim Gannon over refereeing decisions.

Accused by assistant referee Steven Craven of exerting pressure on him to support Dougie Dougie, who had lied about a disallowed penalty incident in a match at Tannadice. He himself had initially publicly repeated McDonald’s false version of events but denied allegations of “bullying and harassment”

In November 2010, he faced an inquiry after it emerged that he had allegedly sent what has been described as a sectarian and offensive email referring to the Pope from his SFA email account.

On November 26 he was sacked on the conclusion of the investigation into the allegations, but still contrived to orchestrate a referee’s strike.

And yet he is still involved with UEFA, and we wonder at some of the decisions that go against us in Europe. The tentacles of the “craft” are far and wide.

I watched him in the EC against Anderlecht away (helping out Her Majesty at the time in Germany) .Don’t remember the score but remember the journey there and back!

*unfortunately he left this world over 5 year ago. I remember him as a very good left winger in an excellent Dundee side. He also was a cup winner with the Pars in ’68 and in the 1972 promoted Arbroath side.

I believe the Dundee EC game against AC was televised live and if my memory serves me well their fans were singing their version of the Celtic Song with the line “and the Dundee champions will be there”.

Tontine Tim, a good read about a bad ref and his cohorts.

When Dallas was hit by that coin in 1999, he slowly turned round for about 5 seconds , he knew where the cameras were, to show the trickle of blood down his forehead. Within a few minutes he awarded a very dodgy penalty against us. A right get it up you to us.

When Stephane Mahe got his first yellow card in the above match, hun player , Wallace, had elbowed Stephane in the chest, which Shug saw, then booked Stephane for fouling Wallace.

Madden, in our last two home league games, let Killie and Motherwell players away quite a bit. The Shugster’s influence is still strong.

Madden’s performances in the two above games were on a par with our ours in each game.

  8. Dallas Dallas etc,

You’re dead right about Madden’s “performances”. I feel sure he influenced both games.

What amazes me is that Hugh Dallas’ sectarian behaviour hasn’t been drawn to the attention of UEFA. Surely, he would be sent packing. Mind you, the SFA would probably find some sinecure for him.

Just a wee heads up for Tims heading to Tynecastle via Roseburn for the 2pm ko tomorrow.

The Edinburgh v Glasgow rugby match is kicking off at Murrayfield at 3pm so post match (4/4:30) the area could be ‘busy’.

The Roseburn Bar typically keeps doors closed after the match until away fans have moved on, but I don’t think the rugby fans will buy into that !

Malone’s in Forrest Road is a good central venue for those looking for a ‘Tim friendly’ pub to watch the match.

  10. Good evening fellow cqners.

I hope you are having a great holiday.

Anyway I was listening to the radio today and I noted the contempt that Collum is held in. I noted it before and how it seems that amongst the msm that it is open season on Collum.

This made me wonder. I find it a bit weird when they normally circle the wagons around the masons.

Now please don’t get me wrong. I think Collum is an awful ref. But he is no more awful than the others. For a spell he was definitely part of the cheat club. That penalty he never saw but awarded against us was the real dal in terms of cheating. The msm of course defended him to the hilt given Scotlands institutional racism.

I have noted in recent years that, whilst awful, he appears to have no particular agenda against Celtic anymore. I do wonder if somewhere within hampden that there has been a bit of a parting of opinions with Collum and the others and he has been cut adrift somewhat.

I wonder what why that could be.

I find the smsm attacks on him very strange indeed.

  11. Reading about our octogenarian Lisbon icon I reflected on a player who suffered badly at the tongues of our fans.

One Guy Fawkes night in particular they were pretty venomous and on the way home on the train they were laughing about De Stefano and calling him De Stefani even though he was one of our goal scorers in a 2-2 tie to Raith Rovers.

As I have said before they were laughing on the other side of their faces 6 ½ years later.

Less than 2 months earlier they had cheered him on when he came on as a sub against 5 time European Champions Real Madrid, for the Blue and white Challenge Trophy, scored and had another chalked off.

That night big José Santamaría, Uruguayan and Spanish international centre half, nicknamed “The Wall”, didnae know what to do with him.

The following day Sir Bob announced to the press that he had found his secret weapon against the “continentals” as they were known then.

Stevie was a late developer having at the age of 20 while playing with Rob Roy been struck down with tubercular meningitis. He against all medical odds battled back and made is Celtic debut at the ripe old age of 23.

He was along with oul Ronnie the only Lisbon Lion to have completed National Service which along with his illness saw him come late into the game.

We like to point out that the “faither” was 36 in Lisbon; Stevie was only 5 years younger.

A couple of years after Stevie’s debut Motherwell’s Scottish international Andy was also struck down with the same illness and it was Stevie who would visit him in hospital encouraging him in his fight back. Andy would go on to play for the “steelmen” for another 7 years. You won’t find that in many papers.

Stevie Chalmers is not just a Celtic legend; he’s a genuinely nice guy.

Parkheadcumdalford, at half time at the Killie game, Madden was getting pelters as he went off the pitch. He glared towards those in the front stand as if he was saying I’m getting 800 pound to pee you lot right off. The first 2 penalties he awarded against us in the 2012/13 season, were not penalties, even the media agreed he got each decision wrong. A rarity from the SMSM.

After reading TT and Dallas(our Dallas) contributions re ref Dallas. I was wondering the same thing. How can someone who was sacked for sending sectarian emails get a gig with UEFA particularly with the emphasis that has been put on their Respect campaign??

Reading back. Yep Dallas I had lauded the virtues of both Liam Boyce and his partner in crime at Cliftonville (and uber Tic fan) Joe Gormley as back ups in the striking department. Let’s face it (even with benefit of hindsight) we couldn’t have done much worse than some of our purchases.

Both are natural goal scorers. There were issues with Boyces weight and Joes confidence but both would definitely have benefitted from going full time and this has been proven in Liam Boyces case.

Joe Gormley went to Peterborough at the start of this season but has been sidelined because of a bad injury suffered in a friendly a couple of weeks after he joined them. For the bean counters they also would have been much, much cheaper options than the money eventually shelled out on a conveyer belt of projects.

HH Dallas. Hope you and those close to you had a good one.

Tontinetim, the wee Inverclyde chap would not have got the room he did in that game if Tom Boyd was not suspended.

When the Celtic pools shop was in West Nile Street, I was in it one day and Stevie Chalmers was behind the counter. I couldn’t believe when I saw him. He asked if I was ok as I awestruck. He still looked fit enough to play even though he was in his late forties.

Glenn Hoddle’s comments about disabled people in the past have cost him big time in the managerial game imo.
