Uefa-Res 12, Craig Thomson, take a look at yourself

1052

The document from Uefa to the Resolution 12 team, which emerged online over the weekend, is genuine. The headline part of this correspondence was always going to be Uefa confirming that whatever errors or omissions on the part of Old Rangers and the SFA’s Uefa vetting process, no further action was possible as New Rangers are a “new club/new company”.

Priceless, I know, but a delightful wee surprise, though it was, the status of Newco Rangers wasn’t the purpose of Resolution 12. Res 12 was about SFA process and accountability.

There was a great deal of correspondence with media figures since the letter was produced. It’s probably worthwhile noting the chronology of correspondence:

Uefa wrote to the Res 12 team on 6 June, copying the SFA and Celtic. After this date Grant Russell at STV asked Uefa for an update and received pretty much the same information that was sent to the Res 12 guys, without the supporting “new club/new company” line.

You may be of the view that after receiving the 6 June letter, the SFA could have asked Uefa not to offer such information in future (the layers of this story are endless). We’ll never know, but the horse had already bolted.

As correspondence on Res 12 continues, the team decided not to attempt private conversations with Uefa while making correspondence public, which is why this leak didn’t come from the Res 12 team. But I’m glad it’s out. It’s the definitive and irrefutable reference point on the status of Newco Rangers, and it’s on Uefa headed notepaper.

I don’t expect I’ll be goaded about Res 12 online as often going forward.

While we’re on the subject of the SFA: Craig Thomson, take a look at yourself. You know this is not good enough.  Your decision-making this season has been atrocious. James Forrest booking, for staying several yards away from the crowd after scoring a goal, was ludicrous, capping a multitude of errors this month.

If only people at the SFA were accountable. Which brings us back to the point above.

Getting nervous about tomorrow.  So much on the line……

A measured and thoughtful post – I respect your opinion.

Imagine UEFA dropped all the rules in relation to political activity in football stadia.

In the world of conflicts and terrorism that we live in, how do you see that panning-out?

Would not football as a safe spectator sport be infiltrated, hi-jacked and destroyed by the hundreds of militant groups all over the world?

With it’s global appeal and media coverage, how could terrorists like those who carried out 9/11, the London 7/7, the Paris Bataclan and the Nice Boulevard des Anglais attrocities, resist the lure of world-wide attention at European Champions League matches.

It would of course start only with banners and flags – do you think it would stop there?

Would you allow your loved ones to attend a football match, knowing that different rival political demonstrations we’re planned

The UEFA rules sound harsh, however there is common sense reasoning behind them.

These groups can bring countries to their knees – how much easier to bring football and football clubs to theirs?

Paul, far be it for me to defend Thompson, however I think he booked Jamesie rather than send off Griff for a second offence – it was Griff not Jamesie who went into the crowd – the law states the the instigator should be cautioned – I feel that was what was in Thompson’s mind, that he could hold Jamsie to be the instigator, if questioned later.

The rule is wrong however on this occasion I think he ‘bent it’ in our direction.

Watch the highlights or a re run of the goal again.

James Forrest runs to the fans then stops and looks down to make SURE he was still on the pitch.

You can see it clear as day he runs………..stops……………and looks down.

To make sure he is still on the grass!

Thumshun booked him as the law is open to interpretation.

I agree the laws /guidelines are perverse.

I just think Thomson ran over reaching for his card – Griff was the obvious ‘suspect’ being ‘in the crowd’ – Thompson remembering he has already booked him, decided not to do it again, as Leigh would ‘walk’ – he took the easy way out and wrongly booked Forrest.

    That’s how I saw it.

  16. Mats Nilloc,

Firstly, thanks for ignoring my question which was posed in response to your post about 4pm yeaterday!

    Freudian slip…remember.

    Secondly,

By banning the Palestinian flag UEFA have introduced ‘politics’ into their competition.

The have broken their own rule, that’s the issue.

The ban dehumanises the Palestinians, appears to favour Israel and as such, it’s political.

If it’s about conflict, ban both flags, imo.

  17. Thought Thomson looked uncomfortable yesterday , usually his sleekitness in upsetting the play and manipulating proceedings are much more subtle .

  24. 24 hours to the season defining game.

We are better than the opposition as we have already proven.

Our concerns are based on the ineptitude of the efforts of previous Non Brendan Celtic sides.

A coefficient boosting, MSM GIRFUY away win Europe is eminently achievable, just lock the fecking back door!

We get through tomorrow. We get a Pot 3 place. We get the choice of last 16 elimination or Europa League longevity.

We have been told that only success in Europe counts, ( only for Celtic).

We will gain success in Europe whilst being domestically dominant.

How will they like them apples?

Don’t know whether to go Celtic win ht / win ft or win ht / draw ft coupled with both teams to score.

Right there you are, no need to fret about tomorrow, all sorted.

Whether it’s a penalty decision or a card decision, a good referee will often pause for just a second before committing himself in order to make sure his decision is correct and fair. CT on the other hand, just about pulled a muscle to get his card out for our players on Saturday. Like he was just itching for the chance.

    Which of course, he was.

  29. CLUNKS@ 7:39

In that case why did he not caution Griff, as he was entitled to do under the rules, then send him off?- that would hurt us more, having to play rhe second-half with ten men
