Champions League sections are never easy so we are as well having one which is unequivocally difficult on paper. Despite finishing second from pot 4 in their group last season (a remarkable achievement), Celtic spent the vast majority of their time in the tournament under pressure. They had possession less than their opponents in all six group games, so although we were successful in the group stage, there should be no doubt as the the size of the challenge.
Conversely, we looked Juventus in the eye, which, in retrospect, could be regarded as over ambitious.
When Martin O’Neill’s Celtic drew Barcelona and Milan in the group section of the Champions League the manager was clearly exasperated at the apparently preposterous task. It was Martin’s last throw in the competition and he was anxious to break into the knockout stage for the first time.
The mood music seems different this time. Neil Lennon has been to the knockout stage already so the pressure to breakthrough is not there. Celtic can take one game at a time without the burden of having to prove themselves in this competition. They are now a part of this league, they might not win it, but they can compete with anyone.
We will be second favourites for each game, which is surely the way we would all prefer it to be. Despite what happened last year, even Barca will expect to comfortably overcome Celtic. Surely we can’t be as organised again?
Don’t bet against it.
STV painted an interest picture of the SFA this morning. The Association declined advice from Uefa to come into line with most of Europe (including England, crucially for many Scottish clubs) and extend the transfer window until the first business day of the week.
Doing so, however, would make a mockery of their suspension of Rangers International’s transfer embargo, which expires on 31 August. To accept Uefa’s advice would draw attention to their oversight in not noticing that August ends on a weekend.
We all know this to be the case, but the Association would rather ignore their mistake than help out member clubs and draw attention to it.
Even Jim Farry checked the calendar.

sometimes the term depression is bandied about too easily
For instance we all would have been “depressed” had Celtic failed to qualify on Wednesday night
As a result of this overuse of the word I find that I (and lots of others ) have a fairly ambiguous attitude towards “depression”
You know the old “pull yourself together man” attitude
If someone had a broken arm we wouldnt expect him to carry a bag of coal,we would carry it for him
If someone has a broken mind or broken spirit we say
Pull yourself together man
Big Georges Fan Club – Hail, Hail wee Oscar
You’ve influenced me… these guys are despicable… they think they can get away with it with a half-hearted response as well.. even worse.
petec – Oscar BraveO – God Bless. @ 00:43
Cheers!
The Celtic supporting cameraman chose the music. I asked for ‘I just can’t get enough’ and maybe some Morrissey. He said, it wont fit.
What is the Stars
I remember my Gran and my Ma used to say that, pull yersel together.
Recalling back, my Ma was depressed.

It’s funny the idea of trying to replace a player with EXACTLY the same kind of player.
I’m not sure it’s possible – (Mr Hooper for example).
Replacing big Victor was never going to be easy but I believe Biton is a decent attempt at filling those boots albeit the young man seems to play more like Martinez than he does VW.
Interesting times though.
Your prediction that the Hoops will finish either first, second, third or fourth in the group is uncannily close to my own feelings where we might wind up.
Hail hail

The ole Curve is definitely upwards.
We may be in a transitional period but our prime targets were secured.
We left Neil without any real support. I think there is a MASSIVE poker game going on @ Celtic Park. What do I know.
Mourinho up to his old tricks again.
“A good English referee would have stopped the game and told Ramires: ‘Look, you’ve not hurt anyone but you mustn’t do that again.’ Or tell the Bayern players: ‘Don’t dive. Don’t try and provoke. Play a fair game.’ If you ask me in pure terms, rule by rule, yes it was a second yellow card. But you don’t do this every action in that way. But it’s nothing new for me.”
Ramires was lucky not to get a straight red.
Play a fair game ?
And the diving comment from THE EX-PORTO MANAGER…..Ha-ha !

Ha! I could have guessed for a year, and not got it … But now that you have explained it, it seems so obvious!
Tet.
I think your nearer the bone with the latter.
The only ones that can make a fast buck and bolt is green and his cortège, who will be expecting a return.
The writing is on the wall for newco…the money is drying up.
They see it and realise buttons have to be pressed to atleast gain a minimal return.
Sit back and enjoy for the moment, for you, myself and others know that no matter what they will be back baster***ing Scottish footballs top teir again.
Nite tet.HH

Time for bed
Good night all
Before I sleep I will ask that anyone who is going through a hard time just now may be granted the strength to cope with the load they need to carry at this time.
petec – Oscar BraveO – God Bless.
Agreed. Celts mos def in transition.
The poker game as you say will proceed out of sight – hopefully the custodians of the club will reveal a winning hand at some point.
I sincerely hope the three aces or whatever will also sweep away the Sevco Franchise Alliance and all their brethren.
A Royal Flush so to speak.
Meantime, in Neil we trust.

Good on ye for being so open. You’re not defined by the illness. Give time, time.
Mental illness needs to be spoken about more regularly and openly, unfortunately it remains a taboo subject.

Masty I’m not saying there aren’t decent WHU fans out there. I’ve only encountered one of their fans and he was a thoroughly reprehensible individual. Perhaps unfairly that has coloured my opinion of them.
Depression
A young man committed suicide recently (married father of 2 in his 30’s)
Being harrassed by Banks over mortgage debt
Terrible
The story behind his death is interesting on many levels
Bought a house in a Dublin estate that was built during the Celtic Tiger era, couple of years back it emerged that the houses/apartments were unsafe and should never have been issued with a Fire Safety Cert,The City Council closed them down and moved all the residents into temporary rented accommodation,City Council was paying the rents but at the same time taking a case to the supreme court to challenge their need to do this.
The owners of the apartments (of which this poor man was one) were left in limbo, still paying a mortgage to banks for properties that were worthless and in which they could never live.
The builder of said apartments was successfully applied for bankruptcy in the Uk (claiming he was a British Citizen although he had been born in Ireland)
This was what the builder told the London Court
“The appellant wants my bankruptcy conducted in the south of Ireland because she knows it will place me in greater difficulties securing a discharge.
“I maintain this is a breach of my human rights and that it is objectionable to expose me as a British citizen to the punitive bankruptcy laws of another country.”
Funny only one Irish Political Party have refused to condemn this builder
anyone take a wild guess which party that would be
Cliftonville Celt
Been there and came through the other end,
I eventually got the strength to talk about it ,then one day I heard myself.
( I hope that makes sense).
Today I try and not resist what is.
I hope and pray you find your way through the “ignored illness”
I hope my words are not taken as flippant or in any way disrespectful as that is the last thing I mean, I was truly at the brink but there is many good days ahead if you keep talking .

I have a question. Perhaps P67 could answer?
Is this £9M going to be paid back this year? It would make sense to. It doesn’t seem to me to make sense not to.

Depression!!!!! Talk to your GP – get a referral to a Psychologist – see them for a few weeks, talk to the professionals!
Mate – I did – a great help. Not claiming to be 100%, but one of the best bits of advice is – “don’t be shy about your problems”. Fek it – tell everyone – you’ll be amazed at how many people have similar issues.
Don’t be shy – no worse than the ole colorectal poke :-) . Go for it mate – honestly, speak to your GP – get a referral – do it on Monday Morning – tell me you have done it!!!!

CQN has the power to inspire or depress, depending on the current mood of the blog.
Recently, it as been depressing, due, I believe, to the fear of not qualifying for the CL group stage.
Thanks to Wednesday night’s efforts, that fear has been removed.
As a result, we were in the draw yesterday for those same group stages.
This event, due to the ignorance and insensitivity of a Bookmaker and a newspaper, caused an unprecedented explosion of anger on the blog and elsewhere amongst the Celtic family.
From this anger, came a reaction that, for me, is inspiring.
That so many people, took the time and trouble to contact the perpetrators of the cruel jibes directed at our Legend, is a tribute to the decency of our support.
That, to a man, they cancelled their accounts, in spite of the abysmal attempts of apology, demonstrates the depth of feeling.
There is still a place in this increasingly hard, uncaring society, for decency and morality.
I am proud of you lads who followed through with your complaints and if I was a fellow punter, I hope that I would have done the same.
Inspiring.
WEST HAM
Always had a soft spot for them
Played good football
Had a black player Cliff or Clive back in early 70s and
no doubt drew our attention for all the wrong reasons
But I think main reason was my uncle who infused football into me and was Celtic/Accies fan and travelled the world working in Bermuda/London/Zambia/Chile
in that order.
He told me when in London he went to all the grounds none were Celtic or Accies but hammers were the team for him(maybe just back from Bermuda he was more open to
minded than most)
