Walk with Shay 1

Incredible pieces of Celtic History that you could win

As you may already know, we have 2 Celtic tops (1 home and 1 away) signed by the last 11 Club Captains of Celtic Football Club spanning the past 53 years of our unbroken history, from Billy to Broony. These items have been professionally designed and framed, containing all the players’ relevant stats. These truly are two of a kind and are a once in a lifetime opportunity to be the proud owner of.  The signing of the tops took us around 18 months to achieve and the journey and story behind this was amazing. We plan to share this story with you over the coming weeks.

We are also delighted to announce that the money raised from the Captains tops (and other special prizes) will not only support Shay but also the wonderful work of the Celtic FC Foundation.

This is our plan

The WalkWithShay Campaign is now fully registered with the Licensing Board to run lotteries (raffles); and we are planning to hold our 1st raffle where the First Prize will be the Away Club Captains top, together with many other great Celtic related prizes.  The draw date for this raffle will be 25th May 2017 (no need to remind you of the significance of that date). We need help to sell our raffle tickets for £5 each and spread awareness before then. Yes, that’s right, you could win the Away top for just £5!!!! The Home top will be raffled/auctioned or sold at a later date.

This is where we need your help…

We’re looking for

67 Supporters Clubs / Groups / Associations / Online Communities/Businesses/Establishments or super Individuals to each sell up to 50 (Lisboa) tickets @£5 each

This will form our Green Battalion

and

67 individuals to sell up to 10 (IAR) tickets @ £5 each

This will form our White Battalion

You are of course all welcome to sell more or indeed a smaller quantity of tickets, if you so desire. Regardless of what you sell (or buy) we really appreciate your support.

We would like to have all our sellers registered before Monday 3rd April, which is when we plan to go live with the sale of our raffle tickets. There is a bit of work here to ensure we comply with our license, so please contact us now.

Please help us recruit by sharing our story with your family, friends and colleagues.

Will you Join Wee Shay’s Green Raffle Army?

Are you able and willing to help and support this amazing initiative? If so please email us at walkwithshay@yahoo.com or if you are on Twitter send us a direct message @walkwithshay we are also on Facebook.

Thanks for taking the time to read our update and we really hope you can support Shay and his young family.

Yours forever in Celtic and thank you for Walking with Shay.

I was going to say how good it was for a ‘journeyman’ jockey to win the Big One, but just been reminded he’s won a Grand National too, albeit 10 years ago.

Can’t be too many horsemen with that double in their CV.

Midlands Grand National at Uttoxeter today. Feel a bit sorry for them, touch of the ‘After the Lord Mayor’s show’ about the meeting, following Cheltenham.

In Sciacca last night —- collecting takeaway pizza .

” Irish Bar ” having a San Patrizio night ..Cheap Guinness ,Mussels with Guinness and something called Birramisu. Music was an Alan Stivell CD . .Only customers in sight were a group of Albanians drinking blow your head off super lager from Denmark.. Next event on their calendar -San Giuseppe….(tomorrow night )

Made the mistake of mentioning the Guinness stuff to Mrs S of T while we were scoffing the pizza and got this in response — ” Guinness ? – the taste of diarrhea mixed with cigarette ends ” . My pizza lost it’s flavour . ! I resisted pointing out that her contact with Guinness extends to a mouthful which she spat out .Don’t know about the comparison..

  5. Good morning second class citizens. I haven’t much time at hand to offer up much in the way the usual gloriously wonders I normally bring to you today.

Least to say today will be ‘Total Football’ day, played the way Europes top teams like us, the Champions of Europe elect, have then will now and will forever play. I was contacted this morning though by representatives of Barcelona and Real Madrid as they began a bidding war for Barry. I told them they can have Ferguson any time but if their offers were for McKay then I was assuming they just wanted him for one day only at that price.

Here is my team talk for today.

Hail! Hail! The champions of Europe Elect. We will Walk On to the field as the grandest old team to Play for and we will neither play or walk Alone. We will play in a manner that the Association of Professional Butchers are accustomed to and we will Let the people sing their stories and their songs and these will wash us over as we prepare for Hampden in the sun. Today we will play the best football ever played as if we just can’t get enough of it. We will play like our nation depends on it as this land is your land and it is my land. The graffiti will be on the wall of every other club in the world with our bould bould name written once again in history. Now get out there and show our Butchers that we love you we love you we love.

Is it possible that those who discouraged/suppressed the use of Gaelic within the education system were doing it for the best of motives, ie they genuinely believed that it was in the children’s best interests to be fluent in English, rather than because they regarded Gaelic culture as a threat?

    _______

That’s entirely plausible but in regards to their motives, I think only they would know ( not being flippant there ) .

    GREENPINATA on 18TH MARCH 2017 10:18 AM

    Macjay,

I wish I had applied myself and learned a second language. Not the poxy teachings at school i.e. Latin and French where to pass an exam was really A memory test , rather than the ability to actually speak the lingo. ( Pretty hard to converse in Latin though, unless you have access to a time machine )

For persons whose first language is not English, the choice of another language is a no brainer. English.

For myself I keep promising I will start learning Spanish.

I think in the distant future, Spanish ( or a form of Spanish ) may even overtake English as the dominant business language. Even Catalan is getting squeezed, in this increasingly global world.

    HH & buena suerte

    ==========================================================

Strange indeed that the Higher exam in French was an exercise in theory rather than practice. Conversational French never had any place in our classes.

I must say ,if you had any facility whatsoever in Latin and French , then Spanish is a piece of cake although I doubt it will ever become pre-eminent globally while the U.S. remains the trading super power.

The brave new world of foreign language learning will in all probability be dominated by the internet rather than the schoolroom.

When my mother was in school in Lewis they spoke English in the classroom and Gaelic in the playground, now they speak Gaelic in the classroom and English in the playground with a semi-American/ Australian lilt.

There are more native Spanish speakers in the USA than there are in Spain.

  13. My friends in Celtic,

Really need to prepare for a hard shift tomorrow. It won’t be easy with a half 12 KO.

Adequate preparations are key. Hence a few swallies today, leave the house early tomorrow morning , a few in my mates abode then spend the day in McChulls.

This weekend will be one mighty endurance test and I bet I feel like an Arapaho war dog on Monday Morning.

It really is no easy being a Tim.

    HH.

Ps : No offence to any Arapaho War Dogs who may be lurking.

I don’t know what level of aptitude you’ve got in mind, but kids who have shown some facility in French in the first couple of years of secondary school often opt to study Spanish as a second foreign language.

They have to work very hard to gain a pass at Higher, and I doubt any of them would describe learning Spanish to even that level ‘a piece of cake’.

Anyone who thinks their Spanish is pretty good, wait till you’ve sat down with a few native speakers who are chatting away and see how you get on following the conversation.

And then how you deal with the first question you get asked!
