Watt ready to push Hooper

922

There were so many pleasing aspects to yesterday’s performance.  Perhaps most importantly, we won a game and scored goals without our primary creative fulcrum, Kris Commons, and without playing our backup fulcrum, Charlie Mulgrew, in a creative position.

Several players will return for Wednesday’s Champions League play-off decider against Helsingborgs but Tony Watt has given Neil Lennon plenty to consider.  He was by some magnitude the best player on the field, and was considerably more threatening than his strike partner, Gary Hooper, who has had no genuine competition for the main striker position since arriving at Celtic two years ago.  I’ve felt for some time that Gary needs to be pushed.  Tony might be the man to do this.

Do you remember six years ago we mocked Paul Le Guen’s Rangers with, “You’re fourth in the SPL…”  Poor Sevco are fourth in the fourth tier of Scottish football.  Give that guy McCoist another 5% of the shares, he’s absolutely priceless.

We Oscar 4 Life’ have organised a bucket collection for Dundee home game at CP on 22nd of September and require a Lorry Load of Volunteer collectors. To volunteer as a bucket collected please email us at weeoscar4life@gmail.com.

I believe the guys over on TSFM are determined to keep the spotlight on the shenanigans going on and have no intention of letting Thems advance by dubious means.

One last comment before I hit my cot.

I had a text message today from a well-respected poster on here re a song being sung at away games.

He mentioned it last night on here, without much detail, and I asked him to tell me which of our great repertoire of songs of celebration and remembrance could annoy him so much.

When he told me,I was thoroughly gobsmacked!

Have we really sunk so low that we think it is ok to sing songs about someone’s disability?

I really hope that the away fans indulge in a wee bit of self-policing.

That song is simply not Celtic.

Remember I previously said to you, we could sell Stokes as Watt would establish himself in the team this season? As you rightly pointed out, who will buy him?!

  15. Afternoon, enjoyed the game yesterday with good performances from some fringe players and young bhoys. Twardzik played well beside Wanyama, McCourt played well and sure can pick a pass. Hooper played well with Watt looked a good pairing.

A finally well done to Tony , looks like a bhoy with a future , took his goals well and made some superb runs on and off the ball.

Lets not waste any money on squad fillers, we have a group of youngsters that are worth a game if required.

When I was told the nature of the song, words failed me.

I would never have thought that we would revert to a 70s-type diatribe considering how much we have self-policed to clean up our act since then.

    Hugely disappointing,I’m afraid.

  19. Afternoon all. Couldn’t log on before. I take it CQN went into meltdown at the result from Berwick. I had to make do with the BBC report. According to that, thon deid team were lucky to get a point. Seemingly, the wee rangers scored a goal which the MIB made an honest mistake about. Only he seems to know the reason why he chalked it off. Now, if the Beeb are reporting this, it must have been one helluva honest mistake!!! This nonsense just keeps getting better by the day…. Long may their “manager” not do walking away.

There’s definitely a place for Stokes, our strike force is lacking in numbers and quality.

Well that’s one way of passing the time until the AA arrive.

  22. I never liked Andy Walker much, when he played for Celtic the first time around and can distinctly remember thinking how did that ‘wee backle’ *spell check* get a game for Celtic?- when Billy McNeill signed him from Motherwell. Ordinary would be kind, and before he left, because he wasn’t getting paid enough and heading for England, I’d never figured what the fuss was about, and never batted an eyelid when he left.

I think by and large, he sank without trace to be honest apart from the odd goal for Bolton, his claim to fame for Celtic was his bundled effort at Ibrox in 1988 for which of course at the time we were and remain, more than a little grateful.

When he resigned for Celtic under Luigi Macari whatever bundling skills he had previously, he’d left down the motorway, and ordinariness had been replaced by indecision and trembling. Part of his original problem was you didn’t know whether he was right footed or left footed, and when he came back for his second go at the Hoops, he still hadn’t figured it out either.

I remember some of the sitters he missed under Tommy Burns one in particular at Hampden where his chronic indecision had become a borderline illness, or condition, whether he should head the ball or bundle it? Mind you, I don’t think his confidence was exactly sky high for an ordinary player to have been told by Fergus McCann that, with the ink still wet on his new contract, that ‘we don’t want you’ and it must have shaken his shrouded skills into nullity.

I don’t think Andy Walker ever got over his meeting with Fergus McCann he was an exceptionally poor idea, for a second shot at Celtic striker, and Fergus McCann let him know.
