When an asset becomes a daunting liability

1665

With Ukio Bankas bankrupt there is an acceptance that Hearts, who owe the bank in the region of £15m, will go into administration shortly after the end of the season.  This might not be the case.

Hearts major problem is their major asset, Tynecastle Stadium, which occupies a valuable patch of land in Edinburgh.  If administrators acting on behalf of Ukio have free access to the stadium they may shut it and look to recoup their loans by selling the land.  There is a possibility Hearts could be a football club without a stadium, but that does not necessarily mean they will go into administration.  Without a stadium to use the club would be liquidated but there is a possibility they would be able ground-share.

Hearts tested the land value before the property crash and received an offer of £22m from a house builder.

Alternatively the bank’s administrators could use their considerable influence over how the club is managed to sell their shares or come to some other arrangement (Ticketus, anyone?). When the major creditor has this much control of the company without administration, going through the formal process could actually harm their chances of getting their money back.

I reckon Charlie has missed a trick there. He could have made it into a DVD and sold it at £20 a pop. Would’ve flown off the (comedy) shelves.

Ach well, they don’t need the money – £22 million sitting in the bank account…..

You should take the sugar hit after the bitter pill, to take the taste away. Beforehand and it will only make it worse

Jim Traynor ‘leaks’ a document to a former BBC colleague, who is unlikely to ask any obvious questions like: “why would these plans be discarded just because majority shareholder Charles Green has stepped aside as chief executive?”

This reminds me of the time the, ahem … ‘blueprint for the £850m Ibrox redevelopment was ‘leaked’ to the media and ole Moonbeams provided threes pages worth of quotes to his favourite poodles on various tabloids explaining why he couldn’t really talk about the plans – a few days before Alan Hutton was bundled into the boot of a car and shipped off to Tottenham.

Looks like Tuesday will be the big day then. Definitely something stinking the place out at Ibrox again.

Frank De Boer has said his is honoured and delighted to be link with a job at a big club like Sevco but would only join if the Third Division Meister McCoist would stay on as his guide and mentor Frank said ” Ally is one of the great young managers in the Third Division, I couldn’t possibly do without his help and advice”

Great to meet up last night. I said hello to a couple of the Bhoys at the FAC demo but this was my first real opportunity to catch up with a group of CQNers. I think the collective noun should be a “huddle” of CQNers.

Although we have a lot in common, mainly a love of the Hoops, it’s unlikely we would have met without CQN. So thanks Paul67 for everything you put in to this forum.

Hopefully it’s the first night of many. I promise that I won’t be drinking soda water and lime next time!
