Why we can attract top French youth talent

962

Olivier Ntcham stole the show with a stunning free-kick goal for France under-21s against Bulgaria last night. Celtic’s midfielder came on as a 75th minute substitute, not long after teammate Moussa Dembele was subbed off.

Olivier has been capped by France at every age group since under-16. It is a mark of the expectations we have for him, and Moussa, that they are exposed to the demands of the Allianz Arena, despite Olivier having less than 50 senior games under his belt, and Moussa having less than 100.

At similar stages of their development, expectations of Kenny Dalglish and Henrik Larsson were considerably less, while contemporaries, Stuart Armstrong and Tom Rogic took years to reach peak form.

What we have seen from Olivier, and to a lesser extent Moussa, is a glimpse of their potential. Playing for Celtic, with its unique mix of expectations to win every domestic game, indifferent domestic opponents, and regular Champions League football, provides a great opportunity to polish potential into the finished article.

Young players will get first team opportunities in less demanding games, while 18-year-olds like Anthony Ralston will be asked to get stuck in against PSG. I doubt any other club can offer a better environment to develop talent, which explains why we can attract Moussa, Olivier and Odsonne Edouard.

DD, You are spot on about my hearing, I’m as deaf as a door nail, as was my Grand Dad, my Dad, my Brother & my Sister, unfortunately the hearing problems have continued with my kids & even my Grand Kids.

Genetics are a strange thing, however in the general scheme of things a bit of deafness is not the worse thing to run in a family.

Delighted to see my friend LynchieBhoy posting, he is a great Tim who makes the trip over to Paradise on a regular basis, He is not a Hun but no harm in asking him anyway.

P.S. He is short one ticket for Anderlecht game & if anyone can help, I can vouch it would be going to a deserving Tim.

I’m extremely pissed off that Prince William has came out and talked sh!t about the World being over populated.

    ……………………………………..

I dinnae ken what Liam is facing right now.

    I know Miracles definitely happen.

    Howdy,stranger.

Nothing available that I can find, other than what’s been said on here.

That he has been moved to a hospice in Cork,no other information as yet.

    All very very sad.

  6. Seven Fishes,

I am the guy who started the Liam Miller story on the Blog..

I want to emphasize that there has been nothing on the Radio, TV or Newspapers, however the story has swept Cork that Liam has been admitted to MaryMount Hospice in Cork with Terminal Liver Cancer and that he has only days to live.

I have checked it with guys who I would consider extremely reliable & unfortunately they all believe the story is accurate.

I wrote my post before I saw yours

Terrible news, best wishes to everyone affected

  8. Dallas Dallas where the heck is Dallas on

Gerry , Paul wants justice for Celtic and our support as well as for other clubs.

He is a phenomenon who has lived , shall we say, a colourful life.

  9. Jophes

The bigot huns prefer to call their Welsh left back Declan John by the name Elton John. Madness in a name or a colour. Green and Declan is against their mentallity. Sad volk

  10. Corkcelt

Am glad you brought Liam’s predicament to the blog for one I wouldn’t have had a clue, like many others hope for the best for Liam and his family, sad, sad stuff

    Cherish what we have

  11. I’d been on Twitter and only read this page on CQN.

Apparently, Liam has cancer and only has days to live. I have no inside knowledge so please don’t take this as Gospel.

Liam was a fantastic footballer, who made poor decisions. At the time when he was an inspirational figure in a tremendous Celtic team I always highlighted his qualities to the youngsters I was coaching. Calumn McGregor is very much in the same mould. Perpetual movement without sporadic bursts.

    God Bless Liam. Hail Hail

  12. Dallas Dallas where the heck is Dallas on

Corkcelt, if Liam does have liver cancer and I hope he doesnt, there is little hope of him surviving .

My dad and a friend of my wife’s each died from liver cancer a few months after is was first diagnosed.

If Liam had beat cancer previously , liver cancer is the most common type of secondary cancer .

    GERRYFAETHEBRIG,HAMILTONTIM

100% agreement with both of your posts.

  14. Hamilton Tim,

I would re-iterate what you just said, ‘Don’t take it as Gospel’, I too am only repeating what I have been told but the news is so widespread here that I would have to think if this was started as a malicious rumor there would have been an official denial by now.

If I ever had to apologize for misleading Blog this is the story I’d prefer to be the one that is wrong.

However sadly I think it is true,

I believe some Reporter in Cork has also tweeted on the subject but I haven’t seen the Tweet.

  15. HT

By all accounts young Liam was advised by the older pros in the dressing room, apart from Maurice Johnston I love ex players doing well but in the cold light of day no 35yr old wehter famous or not deserves this, football means heehaw in times like this

  16. Someone just told me that the Tweet said, ‘He was on his way home for Treatment’, the story had been he was in a Hospice so maybe there is a chink of light.

It’s more or less gone mainstream now, at this stage I feel the Family will issue a Statement shortly.

Chris, the Lord will keep Liam alive if he determines it to be.

Unfortunately, he won’t, Medical Science will keep him alive if it can, and you will claim that the lord decided if he doesn’t make it, good luck to Liam

  18. This is copy of Tweet from Barry O’Mahony who is a Sports Journalist with the local newspaper, The Cork Examiner.

Praying for Liam Miller tonight, who is battling for his life. The 36 year old is from the same area as myself. The community is in shock. I will never forget his winner for Leeds against Southampton in 2005 having been down 3-0. Keep fighting Miller

I will leave the story rest now.

  19. Corkcelt

The tweet I read is from an ex professional footballer, I’ve no idea of the accuracy.

    Gerryfaethebrig

I’d be astonished if that were true.

  20. HT 11.23pm

Obviously, it matters not at this time but I thought both Henrik & Roy Keane advised Liam to go to Old Trafford, again who cares hope Liam and his family manage to get through this difficult time

  21. HT, Sadly I think there is absolutely no doubt that Liam is battling for his life.

Only question is whether he is in the Hospice or in Treatment

Absolutely. Probably best that you hadn’t replied then Ernie.

  27. Ernie,

Cork is a small Parochial Place, the Story has been common news in Cork for past 48 hours, the Local Sports Journalist for the main Newspaper has tweeted about it, I don’t think talking about it on CQN will affect the Family.

Liam was a former Celtic Player, all he & his Family will get from this site is Love, Prayers & Support

  28. Ernie 11.34pm
