Cringe-worthy SFA, pundits and fans don’t lay eggs

402

You wouldn’t announce an event, encourage others to sell tickets, without booking the venue. You just wouldn’t do it. These things have an order: book the venue, then announce the event. It’s a matter of courtesy to all involved, not to mention being an operational necessity.

Why then, do we have the unedifying scenario of Hamilton Accies releasing a statement to say New Douglas Park is unavailable for the date the SFA advertised a Scottish Cup game between East Kilbride and Celtic would take place? It’s just remotely possible that Accies have reneged on an earlier commitment given to the SFA, but the tone of their statement suggests otherwise.

This is for a game which is scheduled to take place one week on Sunday. Fans have to acquire and distribute tickets, travel arrangements have to be made, police and stewarding have to be booked (by East Kilbride, who are the home team, remember).

This should be a great day for the young club but it’s shrouded in considerable commercial uncertainty: how much will policing, stewarding and stadium rental cost? Who at East Kilbride will guarantees these bills and how? The police and host club may take a lax view on credit, but the stewarding provider won’t. What revenue can be expected? None of these issues can be known until a venue is found.

I’m not going to support Pat Nevin’s views, which offended Dundee manager, Paul Hartley on Sportscene at the weekend. I didn’t hear his comments, so cannot conclude if he was talking “absolute garbage”, or if Nevin had verged into the kind of territory which saw him issue an apology under threat of legal action last month. But I’m not convinced the scope of Hartley’s comments are appropriate.

Dundee lose goals. Lots of them. Their only clean sheet since 12 September came against Hamilton Accies last month. The objective facts suggest their defensive strategy is an appropriate subject for criticism. This season they lost 6 in one game against Celtic and 8 over two matches against Ross County.

Analysis and criticism is the domain of pundits and fans, even those, who Paul Hartley notes, have “never coached or managed a team”. Attacking the pundit (or the programme) is easier than explaining a (subjectively) poor defensive record, or keeping clean sheets, apparently.

Paul said “It’s not what it used to be like, away back in the 1980s when you wanted to sit up and watch Sportscene on a Saturday night”. Back then Archie Macpherson fronted the show. Archie told me about a similar run-in he had with Alex Ferguson, who angrily disagreed with the commentator’s view of a defensive infraction.

Archie’s view on his opinion being irrelevant due to his lack of coaching experience was memorable, “I’ve never laid an egg, but I know when I taste a bad one”.

The Foundation Zip Slide in Paradise takes place on 26 March, bookings are now being taken.  This time the slide is higher and longer, leaving the very top corner of the North Stand seating at the Lisbon Lions Stand end, diagonally crossing the pitch to land at the bottom of the Jock Stein Stand, at the South Stand end.

You don’t have a lot of time to get booked and start your fundraising, so get onto it now.  Sign up here.

Those are my sentiments EXACTLY …….. Just to add that I am content in the knowledge I will never again subject myself to their hate-filled ‘pollution’ in ANY stadium …….Scottish Football has been well rid of them, and will regret their tribute act taking up the violence, corruption and sectarianism again….. I still read him, but his predictions are invariably wrong.

Now given those predictions are based on his knowledge of what’s happening inside Ibrox, that calls into question whether the information he has is correct and/or his ability to interpret it. On that basis I totally understand why folk have turned off.

However, if you frequent the Hordes boards as I occasionally used to then one of their biggest failings is discounting any message from ‘the enemy’ had they listened they wouldn’t be in such a mess.

It’s possible that JJ is deliberately reporting the facts correctly but willfully misinterpreting them in order to blind them once again.

  6. The nightmare for me is seeing their ‘directors’ sitting in the front row of the Directors Box at Celtic Park, probably having enjoyed free hospitality at our expense. They will then be entertained by their travelling support and watch the MIB, make a couple of honest mistakes.

Surely this couldn’t happen in Scotland in 2016?

In a recent column for heraldscotland, Graham Spiers said an un-named Rangers director had praised the song The Billy Boys.

He also questioned the willingness of Rangers directors to tackle offensive behaviour, and The Herald and Graham Spiers accept this was inaccurate.

We acknowledge every member of the Rangers board even Je Suis Graham is fully committed to fighting bigotry and offensive chanting, wherever it occurs in Scottish football, and that the club is actively tackling the issue.

We apologise for any embarrassment that may have been caused to the members of the Rangers board.

Will the apology be enough or will the “directors” require a pay out, ie undisclosed damages.

(For loss of reputation – hahahahahaha)

No hun master’s me got to laugh at Safe zones where you posting from. All talk that’s you.

  12. So broadfoot thinks fans should punish their own clubs to prove sevco are a tribute act – nice try!

    Legal advice – aye right!

    Matter of opinion – nope!

The reason they can’t come up with a valid argument against the oc/nc is because there isn’t one.

Has anyone ever heard a plausible story for them starting in the lowest league or why they weren’t seeded in the Scottish cup. Naw, me neither.

They’ve had four years to at least fanny something up, but they can’t. Why? Because they know in their hearts they aren’t the same.

Nice try mr broadfoot, but I don’t have to walk away from my club (est 1888) to prove you wrong.

All the proof (not opinion) you need is there.

In my opinion you might be an ebt recipient.

  13. Who was the director.its all well.and good saying he knew someone at Sevco who agreed with the fans signing the billyboys tune, who is he.or is it off the record.

CF is a potential witness and that will remove what stopped Alex Thomson publishing all that he had from same source in 2013 ie the provenance of the material.

As I understand it AT is waiting for the court cases to proceed before he does anything for fear of prejudicing the cases.

That takes me nicely to JJ. He does not have the detail, I corrected him on his CO statement yesterday.

Much of what he has published on LNS comes from SFM, some bits I could have written myself. :)

On Res12 he has little detail so fills in the gaps and there are gaps. His filling is not always accurate either.

The thing is (and it answer Aw Naws point) both Res12 and LNS involve 4 folk currently under indictment hence the caution that JJ ignores with .abandon.

The one thing that can be said he is reaching a readership that dismisses everything that comes from Timmy.

So even although he is poor on detail he is panting a broad brush picture that makes it easier to put the detail in.

Re caption on player’s tackle on another Celtic site.

Thanks for the compliment, but was not my good self who inserted the caption. I used to troll through other Celtic sites, but found some of the posters rather rude, and , would you believe, resorting to personal attacks on each other, fellow Tims ? Some even used bad language ! Crivvens, jings and helpmabob ! I will stick to CQN where there is nothing but brotherly love, fraternity and a monolithic loyalty to the Hoops !

Another great Coatbridge Tim gets laid to rest on Saturday. Billy Davidson was a talented musician , playing in Timbuckfive, and a great quizzer. He did very well on Countdown a few years ago. Introduced as unemployed, hobbies playing guitar, watching Celtic and travelling in America ! He had great memories of the Celts in 50’s and 60’s. Last saw him at Vigil Mass 2 weeks ago in his wheelchair on a dreadful night. RIP, Billy, good Tim.
