FORREST BACKS GRIFFITHS FOR CLUB AND COUNTRY

JAMES FORREST is backing his frontline mate Leigh Griffiths to produce the goods for Celtic and Scotland in the crucial games ahead.

The pacy raider has returned following his calf problems to lead the Hoops attack while last season’s 32-goal man Moussa Dembele is still sidelined with his hamstring injury.

Griffiths has accepted the challenge and will continue to show he is up to the task in his nation’s World Cup qualifier in Lithuania on Friday and against Malta at Hampden three days later.

His devastating dead-ball double blast against England in the 2-2 draw in June only strengthened the pacy frontman’s belief he can cut it with his country.

Griffiths’ confidence never wavered despite firing blanks in the 12 previous appearances for his country.

Forrest said: “Leigh is always confident and he always thinks he will score goals.

“He scored two great free-kicks against England and he’s come back flying for Celtic as well, so I’m sure that’s a big boost for Scotland, too.”

The winger, bracing himself for some competition from Paddy Roberts for his wing role at the champions, added: “I’ve had a lot of games and that’s good.

“Obviously, getting into the Champions League has been a massive bonus.

“I feel confident coming with the way I’ve been playing for Celtic. I’m feeling good.”
