Reacting to adversity

1334

I like Scott Brown and Leigh Griffiths’ reactions to our recent adversity.  It says a lot about them.  They both personalise responsibility for what happens next, this is an important part of recovery – and success.

A week ago I wrote that the League Cup semi against Ross County was the biggest game in the rest of our season, and that it wasn’t a game I’d bet on.  It provided the toxicity cup football can generate, creating a crisis mentality which rolled into Aberdeen on Wednesday.

This psychological phenomenon has to end now.  Feel free to put a date in June in the diary to get back to it.  We are in a genuine league title contest, something you and I talked about as a great thing for Scottish football not so long ago.  We have no God given right to be miles ahead of anyone.  We are here because we’ve made mistakes and an opponent stepped up.  Welcome to Celtic.

If you want to open an inquest when the patient catches a cold, knock yourself out, but I’m not up for it.  If we want this title, we circle the wagons and give the manager and players the encouragement they need to get the job done (and, erm, that includes you, ‘Phyllis’).  You can be sure Aberdeen fans will do nothing less.

Tomorrow the focus switches to Perth, where Aberdeen take on St Johnstone.  They won their first 8 league games this season, but the wheels came off the tractor immediately after their most important victory away from home – at Tynecastle.  Next up was a League Cup game against Hibs, the loss of which plunged them into a five-week chasm.

They are a team who get notoriously nervous just when they begin to think they are in with a chance.  We’ll see what Tommy Wright does with them tomorrow.

Enjoy your football.  Enjoy this league race, the challenge and the disappointments.  Enjoy that thrill when a goal goes against Aberdeen, or the downer when they score.  It will make the finale all the more rewarding, I promise you.

My main reason for logging in tonight was to draw Paul67’s attention to th article in the highland news/ North star.

As the website’s resident RC supporter, I’m looking for advice on how to challenge this twat in public print.

Spot on Paul67. Support the team and appreciate that we are now tuning into the tranny to hear of Aberdeen’s score come through.

There will be endless numbers of people wheeled out in the MSM to try and keep the undue pressure up. Let’s get behind the bhoys.

Yea, Headlines like “Collum McGregor Arrested at 3am for Drink Driving”

I don’t think McGregors feet had hit the floor of the Paddy Wagon before that Headline was released.

  10. Good morning friends and welcome to Cup Weekend from a slightly moist but calm, mild and wind-free East KIlbride (FC).

Celtic -4 is 11/10 the morra nothing against EK Thistle but wee Leigh will be out for revenge for Hutchy Vale, plus Paddy Roberts & hopefully Scott Allan both get a run, 11/10 could get you a few Guinesses next month across the water

  13. Cheeky wee 25p trixie wagered on my ‘that would be very nice’ selections –

Kilmarnock (17/2), Leicester (5/1) and St Johnstone (23/10)

  15. This is what the true and undying love for Celtic is all about, this shit gets to me fills me with pride, reminds me of both my grandfathers and my own father, no boardroom crap, no splinter groups, this is when Celtic WAS a family, sadly not like today, to many people with agendas and to much to say they forget what the word support means, I’m told I live in the past? Yes they’r probably right and I’m happy with that, happy to be a Celtic supporter, not the PLC. THE BOARD, PL, DD, RD, THE GB, THE CT, Celtic and only Celtic are my love, and as sure as I’v stood my ground many a time backing my team all these years against any Hun or anti Celtic person or persons with negativity and stupid made up stories about CFC , my posts are not educated I’v not read more books than others my dictation is as poor as it gets, my spelling is shocking, I know that, some in here grab the moral high ground on that too, I REALY don’t care, most of them don’t know me anyway and prob. Never will, and that might be a good thing, who knows?

I’v met many who come in hear and never had a problem, well! One in particular didn’t go down to well, people in here make a big deal with it, but it was hand bags, the ones who you get talking about it where not even there so it kinda grown arms and legs since the happening,

Anyway the point I’m making is, ME, Tony Donnelly, if you’ve anything negative about CFC keep it away from me, my mates know me, they wind me up that’s fine, mates do that, others I tell them I’m not interested, like other fans I get pissed off with a bad result, and am not interested in anyone’s negative points or opinions, this does NOT make me any better a supporter than any other Celtic supporter, not at all far from it, it’s just me, different? Sure I am, no doubt about it, but one thing I’ll never do is apologise for being myself, my father told me that, anyway here’s the article.

This is a much bigger problem than we realise… Or most of us.

I calculate that my savings since stopped buying any newspapers or mags around 2006 is about £6k …that’s after I’ve paid my broadband.

stopped looking at their online sites too, unless someone here links to it which is absolutely counter-productive when you stop to think… Or is it? Remind yourself regularly to query why any CQNEr would post a disguised link to the MSM !!

Anyway my mum was a lifelong Lord Beaverbook Express lady … Until recently she switched to the Daily Mail. I gave up in the Express days… She is a Buddy and my mum and I make allowances…

My youngest sister is married to a Leinster man and buys the Sun every day, she just laughs when I show her the anti-Irish stuff ( I’m convinced she thinks it’s all a big jokey spoof…) I’m still working on that one.

My own partner also buys the Daily Mail now and again and the Sunday Mail too. FFS !!! Also, she wants the deidco replacements back ( but they must have stolen titles and cups stripped because they cheated everyone …didn’t they…yes darling, they did)

My own son – has never bought any newspaper even when he delivered them around Fenwick Road for years he would accidently rip wee sections of sticky news or fotos. So that is not an issue at least

However, him and all his mates want the deidco replacements back – they are always on-line and I thought fairly clued-up

What in the name of the wee man are these Bhoys reading on-line? It’s not MSM…

I had hoped that generation would be the one that would never tolerate hunnery under any circumstances –

Actually feel a bit of a failure in that sense.

Weans – always a work in progress.

The msm have the masses by the nuts!!

  19. Jobo. Fair play to you, obviously the calf is healed? Started my hamstring rehab on the cross trainer this week, just back from a turgid 3 miles but a few calories burned and no reaction from the hammy so far. Onward and upwards, easiest money today to be had on yellow cards for Killie and penalty award for thems at Chateau d’Espair today.

    Hail! Hail!

Saw more shots from distance in that 6 minute ‘clip’ of the u-20s than in the last two games of ‘the big team’. Noticed they even passed the ball in front of the receiving man! Do you think it will catch on? Anyway,as before, a strong team tomorrow with all new players and Scott Allan on from the start then they can have a rest.
