Real story of football in Scotland in Fifa corruption shadow

706

This morning world football has plenty reason to be ashamed of itself. US prosecutors yesterday charged 16 Fifa officials, on top of the 14 charged earlier this year. As well as taking bribes and kick-backs, it is alleged money designated for charitable causes such as the relief of natural disasters, were siphoned off by Fifa executives. In recent years we’ve seen how revenue from charity games have been hijacked by club officials to pay bills, or perhaps fund signing bids for Daniel Cousin.

Tomorrow you are going to see the most Ethical Football Club in the World do its thing. Thousands of you will support the Foundation Christmas Appeal by putting money in buckets as you enter the ground.

That money will do incredible things.

It will support the Scottish Refugee Council, as they aid some of the world’s most vulnerable who have recently arrived in Scotland.

It will support the volunteers who run The Invisibles,  who help homeless charities in Glasgow by providing sleeping bags, clothing and toiletries for rough sleepers.

It will support the Glasgow City Mission, in their work with vulnerable adults and families with disadvantaged pre-school children.

It will support the incredible work of the Wayside Club, who provide food, shower, shaving and First Aid facilities to Glasgow’s homeless 365 days a year.

It will support Loaves and Fishes, who open their doors to people who need clothes, toiletries and food.

It will support Glasgow East Women’s Aid, who work with women, children and young people affected by domestic abuse.

And it will support the Salvation Army, who have been a lifeline for countless thousands for longer than Celtic have been in existence.
Salvation Army

The bar on ethics in football is not set particularly high, few clubs have a social mission as their core value. None do it like Celtic, the most Ethical Football Club in the World – bar none.

This is the story of football in Scotland 2015, no matter what happens in Switzerland or the Concafa region. You should be proud of your part in this great story.  Let’s make it a good one tomorrow – and let people know this is happening tomorrow.

  1. Looks like something different for me today . I will spy out Dundee Aberdeen (if there are tickets available) as my guest really wants to take a scottish football game.

  2. Scrolling back through the night shift was scary. I appreciate it’s the right decision to call off the game but I fear this place could even deteriorate further without the football fix.

Horrible day here as well with wind & rain and no Celtic game to look forward to, going to a Christening party at 5pm, will no doubt be nipping in and out of site till then. Praying for sanity & humour.

And has anyone blamed Peter Lawwell yet?

Still, I’d rather not be laying on a cold wet day. Poor conditions can be a great leveller and the risk of injury is higher.

SHAREHOLDERS opposing the current Rangers board are taking legal advice after it emerged they had been prohibited from voting over crucial decisions regarding the club.

Despite the ban, the club failed to secure enough votes to launch a new share issue at last week’s annual general meeting aimed at raising funds to cover the ongoing financial shortfall at the Ibrox club.

Resolution 10, which required 75 per cent of shareholders to support it, was seeking permission to “allot equity securities of the company wholly for cash pursuant to the authority of the directors”.

Herald Scotland: 17/12/14.IBROX – GLASGOW .Rangers shareholder Sandy Easdale arrives at Ibrox. (36492386)

However there is concern that should the Rangers International Football Club plc board try to put the crucial fundraising matter to a vote again, the companies linked to bus tycoon Sandy Easdale which have 10.4 per cent of the club shares, will be frozen out again.

The shares are a crucial part of the so-called Easdale block which with ally Mike Ashley’s shares, provides a power of veto over crucial financial decisions facing Rangers.

Rangers confirmed in July that four groups, who hold 8.5 million shares, said to be part of the so-called Easdale block, would not be entitled to vote at a general meeting either personally or by proxy after failing to provide information about who actually owns them.

    Promoted stories

Until the information was provided, the four companies – Blue Pitch Holdings, Putney Holdings Limited, ATP Investments Limited and Norne Anstalt – would find their shares would be effectively worthless.

Herald Scotland: Rangers FC to enter administration

Rangers said that its articles of association set out that it can impose such sanctions “where its board of directors is satisfied that any person appearing to be interested in shares has been duly served with a notice under s793 of the Companies Act 2006, and is in default of providing [Rangers] with the information required”.

Fans have regularly sought more information on the owners of the Blue Pitch shares, as well as those of Margarita Holdings, who were among the original shareholders when Charles Green’s consortium bought the business and assets of Rangers as it entered liquidation.

Margarita Holdings is no longer in the company’s shareholder register.

Mr Easdale, who owns McGill’s bus company, and ally Sports Direct supremo Mike Ashley are believed to still have influence over a crucial 25 per cent of the shareholding at Ibrox.

Mr Easdale still holds 6.45 per cent, and has proxy votes over 10 per cent. while Mr Ashley still holds 8.92 per cent.

    Herald Scotland: Mike Ashley

Crucially, major decisions over investment that require special resolutions, such as Resolution 10, can be vetoed with 25 per cent of the votes.

RIFC had sought to remove the right of Mr Ashley, who is also the Newcastle United owner, to have a say in how the Glasgow club is run by putting forward a resolution calling for the removal of the voting rights of any shareholder who is involved in running another club at the annual general meeting.

But shareholders were unable to vote on the resolution following court action by Mr Ashley.

RIFC’s move came seven months after the club was fined by the Scottish Football Association for breaching so-called dual ownership rules relating to the Sports Direct supremo.

Jack Irvine, a spokesman for the Easdales, said it was thought all legal hurdles had been overcome to allow the proxy votes to count.

He said: “Lawyers are crawling all over this matter. It is my understanding that we believed we had satisfied the board regarding the ownership of these companies.

“They were astonished it took 96 hours to complete the vote, and then found that they had been disbarred. They were stunned that their votes were not included and this is a matter of legal debate in London.”

Herald Scotland: Dave King wants Rangers’ CVA rejected and has urged fans not to renew their season tickets at the present time

Resolution 10 would have allowed Rangers chairman Dave King and the board to issue new shares to outside investors without having to sell them exclusively to existing shareholders first.

The resolution failed to secure the necessary votes by 1.2 per cent, with 73.8 per cent voting in favour and 26.2 per cent voting against it.

A statement issued by Rangers following the vote said: “The votes were considerably higher than the directors had anticipated and almost enough to see the vote carried as a special resolution.

“The directors will consider carefully shareholders’ views on this vote, consult [where practicable] with those who did not vote or opposed the resolution and identify the company’s next steps after that process is complete.”

  24. Like buses two TRFC stories arrive all at once.

Revenge is a dish best served cold.

Former Rangers chairman Malcolm Murray fails to back current board in bid to allot new shares to external investors

    BY GARY RALSTON

MURRAY owns around a quarter of 1 percent of the Ibrox club, and failed to vote in any of the key motions at last week’s AGM.

Malcolm Murray: Arrived June 2012, left July 2013. Ex-Rangers chairman accused the Rangers board of failing the club’s fans by not granting them security over Ibrox.

RANGERS shareholder and ex-chairman Malcolm Murray refused to back the current board in their bid to allot new shares to outside investors.

Murray failed to vote in any of the key motions at last week’s AGM, including Resolution 10. It would have allowed Dave King to offer shares in the club to specific investors, rather than all shareholders at the same time.

The board failed by 1.2 per cent to secure the necessary 75 per cent support of shareholders and Murray’s lack of support has raised eyebrows.

He owns 200,000 shares – around 0.25 per cent of the club – and it’s believed he also holds sway over a number of minority, institutional investors.

Their collective support for Resolution 10 would have seen it pushed through, but it’s understood they did not vote either.

A Rangers statement said: “The directors will consider carefully shareholders views on this vote, consult (where practicable) with those who did not vote or opposed the resolution and identify the company’s next steps after that process is complete.”

The move will also prevent soft loans currently provided to Rangers by numerous investors, including King and the Three Bears, from being converted into shares as planned.

    Murray declined to comment.

Like many, have been following the blog for several years and was regularly posting for a while under moniker merseycelt but once Lenny left and thems continued to be irrelevant in footballing terms, stopped and didnt even lurk that much.

With the renewed sh°tstorm and the explosive possibilites involving the objectionable fellows at the SFA, amongst other things I thought Auldheid, fiercely intelligent, polite, thoughtful, respectful, modest and unbelievably committed resolutely to the fight for justice as epitomised by his efforts through the post LNS years (I remember Paul67 hanging his hat on the outcome of that commission and going very quiet when the travesty of a report was published) WHAT A MAN. He and a few others didnt give up in their determination to clean up Scottish football and now they see a chink of light that the whole fecking cheating, corrupt lot of them (probably including Lawwell through not acting on what he knew and instead pretending to play the long game) will be exposed and his determination will at last bear fruit.

I scrolled back last night (I dont usually these days) to check out why he was singled out for attack by a frequent and well know poster and, to my horror, find that this exemplary human being (Auldheid if you’ve lost interest, a man I’ve never met but would feel privileged to have the opportunity) was being badgered and vilified because I think, he quoted from the bible but refused to state if he believed in the resurrection or not.

What the Fuck has this blog become?
