Real story of football in Scotland in Fifa corruption shadow

706

This morning world football has plenty reason to be ashamed of itself. US prosecutors yesterday charged 16 Fifa officials, on top of the 14 charged earlier this year. As well as taking bribes and kick-backs, it is alleged money designated for charitable causes such as the relief of natural disasters, were siphoned off by Fifa executives. In recent years we’ve seen how revenue from charity games have been hijacked by club officials to pay bills, or perhaps fund signing bids for Daniel Cousin.

Tomorrow you are going to see the most Ethical Football Club in the World do its thing. Thousands of you will support the Foundation Christmas Appeal by putting money in buckets as you enter the ground.

That money will do incredible things.

It will support the Scottish Refugee Council, as they aid some of the world’s most vulnerable who have recently arrived in Scotland.
people_make_glasgow_article

It will support the volunteers who run The Invisibles,  who help homeless charities in Glasgow by providing sleeping bags, clothing and toiletries for rough sleepers.

It will support the Glasgow City Mission, in their work with vulnerable adults and families with disadvantaged pre-school children.

It will support the incredible work of the Wayside Club, who provide food, shower, shaving and First Aid facilities to Glasgow’s homeless 365 days a year.

It will support Loaves and Fishes, who open their doors to people who need clothes, toiletries and food.

It will support Glasgow East Women’s Aid, who work with women, children and young people affected by domestic abuse.

And it will support the Salvation Army, who have been a lifeline for countless thousands for longer than Celtic have been in existence.
Salvation Army

The bar on ethics in football is not set particularly high, few clubs have a social mission as their core value. None do it like Celtic, the most Ethical Football Club in the World – bar none.

This is the story of football in Scotland 2015, no matter what happens in Switzerland or the Concafa region. You should be proud of your part in this great story.  Let’s make it a good one tomorrow – and let people know this is happening tomorrow.

I see yer on, I just wanted to thank you for your example of patience and all round Celticness on here.

I was very sad to see you being attacked and badgered last night by a poster who is one of the main reasons I don’t log in here so much anymore.

I refuse to give up CQN though as it is an essential part of my Celtic experience and I want to thank you again for fighting the good fight in face of much provocation.

LNS needs to be revisited regardless of any BTC appeal. Rangers players were not registered properly for a decade, therefore ineligible.

The man who was responsible for registering them improperly for over a decade was allowed to give key testimony to excuse himself.

Like a murder suspect being called as the expert witness to refute the forensic evidence against himself.

@DanielOConnel18 Yup.SFA stand aside to be Court of Appeal then supply 2 witnesses to make sure it never happens. A fix from start to finish.

    It’s in the DNA honestly.

  13. I’d just like to add my voice to those praising Auldheid. To me he is the epitome of what a Celtic Supporter should be. He has the patience of Job on here putting up with sheer nonsense from a few roasters. I have absolutely no doubt that the vast silent majority here are fully supportive and appreciative of the wotk of Auldheid and his peers. Maybe it’s time for the silent majority to stop being silent.

I must say I respect Auldheid he believes that resolution 12 is wort the effort and he gets quizzed often on CQN about why things are not moving forward quicker. When he is being quizzes he answers calmly and tries to explain where things are at that time he never when I have read his posts tries to score points and he never be littles the questioner he always comes across to me as a real gent.Anyone who is giving him a hard time on the blog really needs to calm down and give some respect where it is due.I by the way write this as some one who thinks resolution 12 is never going to get a proper answer but have respect for the efforts of the bhoys who put it forward. I think a more pressing need is for the blog to be rid of the strange fruits who post the same stuff – largely nothing to do with Celtic FC and mainly always to do with partisan party politics – under multiple log-ins. Normally delivered in a deliberately antagonistic manner.

You know, the likes of Horrid Henry/ Thomson twin/ Alfie Noakes/ mr pastry etc

    Focus on the treble

Posted on December 5, 2015 by Stevie Mac

This afternoon Celtic entertain Hamilton at Celtic Park. They’ll be hoping to maintain a 7 point lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership.

Before that, second placed Aberdeen will take on Dundee in a lunchtime kick off. A victory for Derek McInnes’ side would put pressure Celtic with the gap closed to four points.

As likely as that scenario may be, I doubt Celtic will be focussing on anything other than their own match. Distractions off the field have been headlines for the club in recent weeks so for Ronny Deila, he will feel relieved to have a match to concentrate on again.

Last week Anthony Stokes’ tweet before the game at Inverness landed himself in trouble. What followed was an apology from the player and then a suspension imposed by the club.

Many fans spoke out over the imbalance of justice drawing comparison to Kris Commons’ verbal tirade in the dugout in Norway. However, had anyone actually put their hatred for Ronny Deila to one side and thought clearly about Stokes’ overall behaviour at the club they would have seen Deila’s statement coming a mile away.

I don’t claim to know the entire story with Anthony Stokes or his absence from the team but it is clear he has been a bit of a naughty boy and isn’t doing the right things to get in the team. Ronny Deila is a pretty simple guy in that if you train well, act professional you’ll get your chance.

Stokes for one reason or another has failed to achieve that under Deila. The frustrating part is that we all know how gifted the guy is but he doesn’t appear to be the brightest either.

As Deila said to the media, the suspension isn’t just about a single incident. It is a culmination of events of a period of time which the club are no acting upon.

The fact that he had to come out and say that just goes to show how much Celtic have tried to contain the situation with Stokes. When you are attracting attention away from football it brings unwanted attention to the club.

I have no problem with the club suspending Stokes. I doubt they’d do it without real cause.

It is still a shame that Stokes has ended up in this situation but then again, perhaps it is the kick up the arse that he needs. He’s a talented boy who can still have a future at the club so perhaps a couple of weeks away will help him sort his head out.

Right now, the Celtic team need to be fully concentrated with on-the-field matters. There is a treble at stake and in Ronny Deila’s case, possibly his career ambitions.

For a club branded as being in chaos by our ever so friendly Scottish media, Celtic are still unbeaten at home this season in the league. In fact Celtic have dropped points in only four of their 16 games so far this season with 3 draws and 1 defeat.

Approaching the halfway point in season Celtic will be looking to rubberstamp their authority on the domestic scene. With Europe off the agenda until next summer, full attention must go the all three domestic trophies.

The treble has eluded Celtic since Martin O’Neill won it back in the 2000/2001 season. Before then all three trophies hadn’t resided at Celtic Park since the 60’s during the Jock Stein era.

In truth, Celtic should have won the treble more than this. The club’s record in the League Cup has been the biggest drawback in achieving that.

If Ronny Deila was to win the treble it would be just the fourth time in the club’s history making the Norwegian the third Celtic manager to do so. That has to be the key motivator for everyone at the club right now.

    Hail! Hail!
