United caught in good but fragile football trap

405

It could be a big weekend in the race for the Premiership with Celtic away to bottom club Dundee United tonight and Aberdeen at fifth placed Ross County on Sunday. The gap at the top is currently three points, with Celtic having a game in hand. Tonight’s result will give the league table a true look, at least until Sunday afternoon.

Those of us of a certain heritage cannot take a trip to Tannadice lightly. Despite seeing United relegated since their 80s peak, they were never a bad team. Even now, cut adrift at the foot of the table, they play far better football than any other team I can remember in that position.

The recent Dundee derby was a case in point. United had the lead and should have buried Dundee before the fragility which has stalked United this season caught up with them. Tonight’s game will present a different proposition. Unlike against Dundee, when they went looking to put the game to bed, United will be far more cautious against Celtic, who will have to do their usual shift against a packed defence.

Despite this, United are bottom for a reason. They’ve won two of 21 league games, are 11 points from the play-off spot and need to pull something spectacular out of the bag this month to avoid relegation.

Three points, please, Celtic.

  1. Reason to sack scout is what does he do? Why buy players but play loan players ahead of them when they have never been given a chance

  2. JF does not deserve a contract , of any value. give a young player a chance to run and people with no end product

  3. ‘Judge also noted that there were people with “deep pockets””who were determined not to let club go out of business.’

It would be interesting to know what the Sheriff said verbatim.

Because, on the face of it, that sounds like the sheriff is creating the impression that one or more individuals have guaranteed the huns losses.

And if creditors or investors were induced to provide credit or investment on that understanding, and it subsequently transpired that things were not as the Sheriff had suggested, then it could all get very embarrassing.

Well things are just rolling along at Ibrokes the Establishment have everything under control. They are not going to go out of business it just isnt going to be allowed to happen and there Baw faced manager will tell clubs who dont accept the Rangers valuation of there players we are the peepil and we are not going to be held to ransom. The SPL next season will see even more cheating than ever from the men in black which will allow them to challenge Celtic just watch it happen. H.H.

  5. I have said from way before there were even court cases, and I said there would be court cases, that they would get away with it.

And they for all intents and purposes they have.

Dumped mega millions of debt, still have the football authorities in their pocket, along with the polis, the judiciary, the msm and the government.

In reality, we are the ones who are struggling, we are downsizing to beat the band.

And unless we do what ThomtheThim suggests, we will continue to downsize while they will only get stronger.

And please spare me they are dead pish, they have no money pish, in any fair and normal society, they would be gone, but it’s scotland.

The only ones who have any sort of power are the supporters, with hold your cash, it’s they only way anyone will listen, otherwise the consequences imo will be dire for us.

If it is true that JF has been offered reduced terms, then that is equivalent to his P45.

Clubs are obliged to offer players new terms at the end of their contracts and it is usually an older, pre retirement player, who accepts the reduced deal.

James, at his age, should be looking for a much improved offer, going by this stage of his career.

    ———————————————————————————————————————————————-

None of us really know what young Jamsie has been offered – however as we all know, he has spent more time out of the picture injured, over his last contract, than he has been available for selection.

So it may well be that any new contract contains trigger points to boost his wages based on the number of games played, or, available for – this would seem prudent to me – if he is fit and delivers the goods, then I am sure he will not lose out.

The club stuck by him when he had his problems, now it is his turn to stick by the club – imho – Hail Hail

THE EXILED TIM. For me Fella you are spot on.If it doesnt change which in my opinion is highly unlikely Scottish football is dead and supporters will stop supporting in droves. Why pay hard earned money to be treated like dafties and watch them walk all over everyone else including Celtic. H.H.

    It’s a boot in the baws,a GTF.

Don’t dress it any other way.

  12. We should have kept O’Connell {he’s back now],instead of taking Blackett on loan, another waste of money

  13. Forrest isn’t fit often enough ,to be missed…………..he’s had more chances than anyone i can remember, still flatters to deceive.

  14. I think that if Celtic were to ask the price for O’Hallaran they would probably get quoted at least 1M

Sevco could do a Scott Allan rerun and set a much lower price which Celtic will pay for a player who probably doesn’t want anything to do with that mob.

  15. Joe Filippis Haircut on

But what about the holding company?

  18. CultsBhoy can not relate to Celtic Board ambitions on or off the park on

Dundee Utd have fallen foul of a policy that sees them sell their best players and replace them with inferior substitutions…

It’s money all on a smaller scale. Just as we have been relegated out of Europe DUFC will be relegated from top tier of Scottish football.

We should take heed. The money all theory is a short term strategy that needs to be underpinned by a longer term vision that ensures quality players remAin at the core of the team.

  19. BMCUW,

Possibly PL has been on CQN and his offer to James Forrest reflects that.

Personally I think that JF gives us an option that no one else in the team can. Yes, he needs more consistancy and his end product is often lacking. But his criticism is sometimes way over the top.

    HH.

James Forrest? Who cares he only plays about a dozen games a season and is only influential in about 4 or 5 of those games ,

He can gtf as far as I’m concerned.

MOH would be a better bet at half the cost.

  21. He also noted that no evidence had been presented to the court that Rangers were not paying other bills when they fell due

Hold on do they not owe the SFA £250,000 it did I miss that?. They paid that? From the LNS carry on?

  22. JF has maybe had all his chances.

I dont think he is particularly good.

Got pace…but no football brain, injury prone, and half the time doesnt look bothered.

A bit like Shaun Maloney was….up and down like a yoyo.

No surprise Hunco win case. I predicted this earlier in the week. No judge would have awarded otherwise,

It’s not credible that a company innocently entered in to any business transaction with Hinco unaware of their modus operandi. They took the risk they lost.

Move on nothing to see here..

  24. i bet that Steve Evans at Leeds Utd puts a bid in for Michael O Halloran,Everton have bid 4 million for the leeds right back,it has been accepted, and im sure leeds need another striker, aye deep pockets my archie.but iwiil tell you this ,many yrs ago i was up at the club deck at sevco, and what i noticed on a lot of the seats were the names of lawyers,so that lot are well presented by that lot,as for the club deck anyone paying for a seat up there ,paying top dollar to needs there head looked, our main stand is good for viewing, but it sure needs a good facelift, wee fergus should have done that ,
