10-in-a-row, McGarvey, Murray and more

1472

The 10-in-a-Row CQN Charity Golf Day at Aberdour was a great success yesterday.  The irrepressible Frank McGarvey spoke about his formative years in Easterhouse and beyond, with special mentions of his legendary first and last games for Celtic.

Len Murray returned six years after his previous appearance, and spoke with humour and authority, but most of all with a burning support for Celtic.

The event raised money for The Cookie Jar Foundation, founded in memory of 19-year-old Christopher Coutts, who died of Hodkin’s Lymphoma last year and for the work of Glasgow the Caring City.

Christopher Coutts’ father, David, demonstrated a vein finder.  A vein finder is the size of a torch and has a light which shines on the arm and allows veins to be seen.

When Christopher was seriously ill medics often had trouble finding a vein for an injection, attempts were traumatic and distressing.  Twice he left hospital without treatment because veins couldn’t be found.  On a visit to a private hospital a doctor produced this torch-like device and identified a hydrated vein with ease, allowing treatment to take place.

The money we raise is going to buy these devices for NHS hospitals, where they are not provided for.  They will not save or cure anyone, but they will make the treatment of acutely ill people less distressing and, on some occasions, possible.

You can help by bidding for this magnificent canvass, signed by Billy McNeill, one of only two made.  You can also help by buying a raffle ticket for the other one.  The ebay auction is available here.  You enter the raffle by donating at least £1 here.  Get involved, you’ll be pleased you did.

On the long drive home from Fife I heard Neymar had left the field writhing in agony after going down clutching his back, just as he did, while feigning, at Celtic Park last season.  Forgive me for being cynical.  Around 1am news came through of his broken vertebra, acquired from a dangerous foul.  Let’s hope he makes a full recovery.

Thought Beram and wee Dylan played well. Why does a Celtic friendly grip me more than a World Cup game does??

I too have been critical of Kayal in the past but he did play very well today.

Sometimes a change of manager can be the making of some players. Thinking of Bobby Petta before and after the arrival of Martin O’Neill. Like 2 different players.

What have all the other midfielders, goalkeepers, defenders and strikers got to do with Tony Watt and the long line of managers (whoever they are) with the inexplicable grudge against Tony Watt?

Much more like Tony Watt ( The striker ) hasn’t had a game yet because he was away on loan, and is clearly behind every other striker that Celtic have in the pecking order.

  5. Kayal and Twardzik the best for me today, Big Virg still had a wee bit holiday eyes!! Still got Fraser, Izzy, Efe, Jamesy to come back, with a full team we would win in Vienna..

Was asking for you at the Pool tourney. That welcome home pint is in any tap of any boozer of your choice.

Thank you. Is Watt the only player not to have any real game time in the last 2 games?

I was having a wee dig at the various posters who demand that Tony Watt be picked for every game and who constantly slaughtered Neil Lennon for having it in for him – allegedly.

O.K. I see. – We need an ironic font.

It’s perfectly clear Atajic, Fridjonnsson and Watt are still the way they were under the

    last manager.

  13. Tom McG

Em sorry but not sure what you mean, that doesn’t answer my question.

Can anyone else tell me if Tony Watt the only unused sub in both games?

No ulterior motive only asking because I haven’t seen either of the games.

  14. Delaneys Dunky –

Yes, I missed out due to being on antibiotics to kill a gum infection. Going to dentist on Tuesday to have 4 teeth pulled. Yikes!

Will you be in Edinburgh for the KR Reykjavic game?

  15. Thought this would be a low friendly instead it a cauldron with 72000 in the stadium. Good performance. SSome of our players indulging in the junk food close season. Good result Ronny.still

trying to get used to this tablet.

  16. Fridjonnson, Watt, Biton, & Fisher probably the main lads not given game time. You wouldn’t expect Gordon to get a game for a while and obviously wee Jamesie will be out for another few weeks. Its possible that any or all of the 4 have a niggly injury and Ronny mightn’t want to take a risk with any of them.

Unfortunately I will be in Benidorm with my kids and grandkids that night. Will be a the next game at Murrayfield, God willing.

I was in Tesco after Mass tonight and skimmed a few of the papers looking for stories on yesterday’s walks.

A couple of them had a pic of the young girl with blood flowing from her head wound; the Sunday Post had a paragraph but most, even those with pics, made only passing reference to the fact that there were 28 arrests between Glasgow and Blantyre.

No mention of crisis talks, no reference to summits and certainly not a single suggestion that this barbaric expression of hatred could ever be wrong in contemporary society.

We have 4 supporters arrested in Dundee; one was for singing Roll of Honour and one for jumping the advertising hoardings (not attempting to enter the field of play!) and it’s a ‘riot’.

    I genuinely despair.

  20. I once walked through an Orange Walk in Edinburgh’s Princes Street a few years ago. I was immediately grabbed by a couple of coppers and thrown into the meat wagon. They drove me into Castle Terrace and started questioning me.

I lived in London at the time and my drivers licence had my London address. I put on a cockney accent and pleaded ignorance.

It worked. They eventually believed I was unaware of the significance of what I had done and meant no offence. They threw me out of the van with a stern warning ringing in my ears and I went back to the pub in Rose Street.

I got away with it, but it was a very close call.

  21. Ah You solved the conundrum DD. That’s why he was punched, the Seagull brought it on himself.

  22. I’d just like to add my Thanks (and also congratulations) to TinyTim for organising the event yesterday. It was a quality day in the company of top class fellas.

    Nice 1.

I will try and get a frame off you next time. o_0

The hotel me and DD booked into was perfect for the venue and I’d recommend it for anyone going next time because of the location, literally 30 seconds away, excellent for ever so slightly inebriated people. :D

I really enjoyed the pool and I’m going to get the wee man along to Reds in Clydebank (thanks for the tip DD) a fair wee bit over the next year.

Those killer sharks are out there. :)

There were Irish bands and Scottish pipe bands.

    Arrests nil

  25. Perhaps Bawface will organise crisis summit with Police scoddland, headed by Bill Oddie???
