11 short days before CL duty

836

Work ahead of the new season is underway in earnest after Celtic came through a game in Austria against top flight Russian club FC Krasnodar in Austria yesterday afternoon.  Every hour has to be carefully planned from now on.

Ronny Deila has only 11 days before taking to an Icelandic field on Champions League duty.  Players need to step up, from 45 minutes against a fellow-preseason team, to 90 minutes of competitive action against a team who are already midseason.  Pushing muscles too hard now will be counterproductive; players need a planned gradient of training, rest and games to get them as close to peak condition as possible.  No matter how well this goes, the players will be short of their peak for weeks.

Trying hard not to think or talk about signings but it’s good to see Craig Gordon confirmed.  Fraser Forster is the most committed professional at the club, so he’s not a player who needs to be driven to improve, but we all need fresh incentives to go back to the well again, and the arrival of Craig will give Fraser fresh focus after returning from a disappointing World Cup campaign.

Welcome to Celtic, Craig.

There are around 36 CQNers already out on Aberdour Golf Course in what could be described as ‘fresh’ conditions.  A great night lies ahead.

This year we are raising money for Glasgow the Caring City and The Cookiejar Foundation. We have two copies of this magnificent canvas, signed by Billy McNeill, one is available to the highest bidder on ebay here.

The other is available for raffle. Every donor to this JustGiving page gets an entry in the raffle. The minimum donation is £1, which we can all afford to participate in, although you can donate as much as you want. Our thanks to @BarryMcGonigle for the image on the canvas and OPG Graphics for creating the work.

When I told my doctor when I was 45 that 5s was my main sport I was advised to give it up as it was inappropriate exercise for a man of my years.

I did as he recommended 8 years later when my hammys kept reminding me of what the doc has ordered.

Still miss it 15 years on.

  2. Paul67,

Fraser staying will be like signing a top class striker. I hope you are right!!!!

..and welcome Craig Gordon, I hope you score 1 or 2 goals whilst being at Celtic Park.

I AM VOTING NO AS IT STANDS.

There is one thing that would have made me vote yes.

    If Alex Salmond had said.

In an independent Scotland we will not allow the likes SKY to broadcast unless they pay a sponsorship to Scottish football that matches what they pay to English football.

This would would be calculated by proportioning the relative size of the Scottish population in comparison to the rest of the UK.

If Celtic can’t get into the EPL, then they must lobby for the termination of English football being shown in Scotland, unless the broadcasters gives us a fair share of the TV revenues.

    ————————

So you want to end Sky’s EPL dominance but are voting No, which will only ensure that Sky’s EPL dominance continues.

  7. Alzheimer’s is not a joke, horrible disease.. Slow death so it is. Me granny suffered badly from it for years before passing away.

Was awful to see, can barely remember how she was prior to that awful illness. Must have been awful for my mammy to witness it and have to deal with it. I pity any family who has to deal with it.

Two disgraceful comments from two would be comedians on the last thread, who think that Alzheimer’s is funny.

Offensive on so many levels and perhaps a new low from a blog that is racing to the bottom in terms of taste and respect.

Sort it out Paul, or you will be left with the dregs.

    Disgusted.

I agree, and I’m glad that research is finally being funded.

The pain suffered by people must be dreadful, whether it be to experience or only to watch.

if you’re over 40 then you shouldnt be lugging it round a 5s pitch too hard – only last week a poor soul , 40 years old, dropped down and died in Glasgow doing that very thing

You read about it happening a lot with over 40s who exercise like they are still 18, until their heart reminds them pretty abruptly that they are not.

———————————————————————————————————————-Now that is seriously good advice and deserves NOT to be scrolled past.

I think the CQN 5s, by the sounds of it, are not as competitive as the olde Celtic first team. Ideal for anyone wanting to get back in some sort of shape, a little less oblong?
