Work ahead of the new season is underway in earnest after Celtic came through a game in Austria against top flight Russian club FC Krasnodar in Austria yesterday afternoon. Every hour has to be carefully planned from now on.
Ronny Deila has only 11 days before taking to an Icelandic field on Champions League duty. Players need to step up, from 45 minutes against a fellow-preseason team, to 90 minutes of competitive action against a team who are already midseason. Pushing muscles too hard now will be counterproductive; players need a planned gradient of training, rest and games to get them as close to peak condition as possible. No matter how well this goes, the players will be short of their peak for weeks.
Trying hard not to think or talk about signings but it’s good to see Craig Gordon confirmed. Fraser Forster is the most committed professional at the club, so he’s not a player who needs to be driven to improve, but we all need fresh incentives to go back to the well again, and the arrival of Craig will give Fraser fresh focus after returning from a disappointing World Cup campaign.
Welcome to Celtic, Craig.
There are around 36 CQNers already out on Aberdour Golf Course in what could be described as ‘fresh’ conditions. A great night lies ahead.
This year we are raising money for Glasgow the Caring City and The Cookiejar Foundation. We have two copies of this magnificent canvas, signed by Billy McNeill, one is available to the highest bidder on ebay here.
The other is available for raffle. Every donor to this JustGiving page gets an entry in the raffle. The minimum donation is £1, which we can all afford to participate in, although you can donate as much as you want. Best side thus far for me have been the Dutch; have this problem though, with their thuggish mid-field and diving wide men… Stick to playing the game at pace and hey the rest of the world is really playing catch-up… Only my wee take on things… TBM
Good-night… TBM
Thoughts on Brazil Colombia game today.
FIFA host babes came out physical from the get go.
Referee expected this.
Very physical foul ridden game
No yellows in first half.
There were almost 60 fouls awarded on this game
About another 60 ignored
The first yellow was Silva for messing with the Colpmbian keeper.
2 more yellows were subsequently given to Colombians and a yellow for Julio Caesar for the penalty which should have been a red
Oh and Columbia had a perfectly good goal chalked off for some reason other than offside
Brazil FIFA babes for the World Cup anyone?

Back in rio from the China trip. :o)
Great to read your stuff but especially good during the WC.
I actually posited that the Jimmy hat wearing jock in with the Chile fans might be you, but was told you were in foreign fields._
Sure I saw a Celtic top in the crowd when Hummels scored today.

Some folk must be drinking some pretty strong stuff the night! Can’t believe people are saying that the ref’s are trying to give the World Cup to Brazil.
If that were the case, how on earth did the game vs Chile get to penalties? Why did Howard Webb disallow the ‘goal’ that Hulk scored? Or not give him a penalty when he fell in the box?
Why would the ref give a penalty to Colombia, when there was still plenty of time for them to score a 2nd? And award, (a fair), full 5 minutes of injury time, when Colombia could have scored again?
I think there are a lot of people with memories of 1970 and 1982 etc, and the current side are simply not living upto people’s expectations. Well, that was more than 40 years ago! 4 decades of football evolution, and some 11 world cups ago, guess what, football has changed.
Can’t believe people want to see Germany vs Holland in the final. Brazil vs Argentina has the potential to be one of best finals in a long time.
Anyway, its opinions at the end of the day, but I think its all a bit sad really, hoping a team gets beat, simply because you don’t think the current players are as good as your memories of a team from 40 odd years ago. If you put that view into everything, you would also be hoping that Scotland and even Celtic get beat every game! Weird……

Glad you’ve returned from China in time for the last ten days or so of the World Cup.
But you got lucky tonight, mate. If Brazil had lost, you’d have been packed off again as a jinx!
Sneddoni,
My complaint is that money and corruption are the reason that Brasil lack the charm of their predecessors. They are the greatest example of how the game is being ruined today. Nothing to do with the small-minded trivialities you’ve attributed to my complaints.

Colombia came to play football and were kicked off the park. However, I’ll place Brazil as #3
Germany or Holland then Brazil

Nope.
That was the Portuguese ref.
So the Spanish ref knocked out the Colombians. Big deal.
Is FIFA coaching WC refs? is FIFA corrupt?

Just what Qatar needs: Mayfair based international conman Peter Hargitay has volunteered to rebuild the country’s soiled World Cup image.
For a mere £150,000 a year, invoiced quarterly in advance, the self styled “crisis manager” is promising upbeat coverage in this Swiss-based online newsletter “Inside World Football”, offering “independent” stories and “must-read content” favourable to the discredited Doha squillionaires.
Qatar will be positioned “as a global football leader”, and “features will be agreed with Qatar’s press officers” to create “a trusted source of information that can be referred to by the world’s football business, politics and media community”. Naturally there’s no mention of the slave labour problem, or of the slaves’ unfortunate habit of dropping dead at work.
The newsletter’s “independent” content is produced by former BBC and FT sports editors Mihir Bose and David Owen, with sports hack Andrew Warshaw. Hargitay, under the pen-name Inside Insight, publishes unhinged rants and bizarre dialogues with himself.
Hargitay has never been too choosy about his PR clients. He boasts that his greatest coup was talking up the image of Union carbide after 16,000 Indians died because of a huge toxic discharge at its Bophal factory. He also massaged media for America’s biggest tax dodger, Marc Rich, after he fled to Switzerland.
Hargitay is a “special adviser” to sleazy Sepp Blatter and has performed similar duties for disgraced former FIFA officials Jack Warner and Mohamed Bin Hamman. He is currently being pursued by London lawyers for a debt of £2m that he has been dodging for nearly two decades. Will this accident-prone spiv now become the man who put the “Doh!” in Doha?

I dont think players need anti venom shots for fractured vertebra or diving.
Maybe they do nowadays.

I`d rather suffer one of those than a fractured vertebra (used to be called a broken back).

You watched the game I take it? Most of the ‘fouls’ against Colombia were them diving. Also, would you care to point out how many Colombian’s are going home unable to play football? (Not including the one’s who couldn’t already ;-p)

This game saw more fouls committed than any match at this tournament so far (54; previous most was 51 during Brazil v Chile).
Yes it was Colombia’s fault.

Would ‘small-minded trivialities’ happen to include the very obvious reasons that FIFA are not telling the ref’s to make Brazil the winners?
Brazil and many other countries, and teams provide a great example of what you are talking about. Brazil are not exempt from it, and neither will any of the other teams in the semi’s be either.
If Germany outplay Brazil with entertaining, brilliant football, then great, and good for them. However, my money is on them attempting to score first and ‘kill the game’. If that is the case, then I will be shouting on Brazil, for the semi and the final.
Next?
Right!

‘There are lies, and damned lies and then there are statistics……..’
It was not a dirty game, bit too much falling over, and some strong challenges, chances at both ends. It wasn’t the best World Cup game ever, but it was pretty far from being the worst.
Ordered a couple of the new shirts weeks ago with a 3 to 10 working day delivery.
Got an email that if delivery did not appear after July 8th then to get back in touch.
I am out of country right now but been told my 2 shirts arrived but nobody home.
Also days after my order received an email for free oversees delivery over 75 pounds, which my category fell into.
My delivery now has a cost of $82.78 plus my original shipping cost for additional charges.
Why?
I am sending it back on principle as our club are fleecing oversees punters in my opinion.
Sent email to club and waiting for answer.
This stuff has to be exposed.
Jeez just typical, complimented the refereeing displays and what follows is a howler.thought that was a howler of a disolay.
