Challenge for makeshift Celtic

650

Anyone who thinks that Rangers will arrive at Celtic Park on Wednesday evening low on confidence or strategy better think again.  For all their poor recent form they are top of the league, beat Celtic comfortably earlier this season and have a squad full of players who know what it’s like to win the league.

They will revert to a familiar strategy.  Pack the midfield, deny Celtic’s creative players space, take no chances at the back and wait for a seasonal gift from Celtic.  I watched their recent defeat to St Mirren and I think it’s possible to question some players’ attitude to the game but things will be different at Celtic Park.  Already written off by many, ironically, they will arrive with the confidence only a team with nothing to lose can muster.

Celtic’s league form over the last two months has been exceptional and their Europa League performances indicate there is a lot more to come from this squad but they still have plenty to prove.  A particular concern will be the lack of a settled team in recent months.  Kelvin Wilson is likely to start his first game in months and I’d not be surprised to see Emilio Izaguirre back.

The front pairing is also a concern.  Georgios Samaras is back to his best form but he and Hooper have never convinced as a partnership.  We have to hope that Victor Wanyama can be relieved of central defensive duties to allow him to anchor midfield alongside Beram Kayal.  Neither Brown nor Ki are sufficiently imposing in the crucial central midfield area.  No matter how Celtic start on Wednesday the team will have a makeshift feel to it, any win will be hard earned.

  1. Gutted I won’t be able to make game – however family commitments impossible to avoid…and ticket going to a good lad… Should at least be able to watch in relative comfort and warmth…

Hope Sammi plays – word was he was really ill after the Killie game. His running and strength could make the difference against a very ordinary, workmanlike Huns outfit.

Being over confident will more dangerous than any thing they can throw at us. These games are never easy and we cant afford to get caught up in the physical game that they will want to engage. As well as James Forrest has been playing I think a place on the bench for his own protection coming on after 60m with the cards piling up. NL teamtalk important to instill confidence.

The right result tomorrow could bring their cards tumbling down its within our own hands

Long time since I worked with them, but it sounds as though it has been disconnected from RF2 outlet,or been switched off.

Check the back of the box, then to switch back on-from memory,

First, switch the box off at the wall to reboot it,then

    SEVICES 401 SELECT.

Trawl through the available options offered to RF2 outlet. Switch to on.

    Press select to save settings.

    Fingers crossed.

  4. Do I understand the news properly?

Suspended player (McCulloch) is available until January 5 becouse appeal will be heard on that day? No suspension until the meeting?

  5. Do much for the SFA’s fast-track appeal system. These idiots design a packed festive program, during which they expect all of us t traipse out to the games, but they themselves can’t be bothered putting in a shift at the same time.

Essentially, any player sent off for violent conduct gets a free pass till January.

  6. Summa of Sammi

“And if He gets sent off Again..He will STILL Not be Suspended so can Play against Motherwell..”

    What a shambles!

And then maybe he will serve his suspensions concurrently …. or has that been changed since McBride embarrassed the SFA.

  7. Summa of Sammi….

    Thank you.

I have read about many strange habits in all those my years here. This decision would be one of top three.

Imagine, McCullough made a tackle, broke the leg of the player, when was going off the pitch he kicked the referee and what? He is still available becouse the appeal will be heard after next two games.

    What a disrespectful decision.

I checked two last appeals in Poland.

Wisla Cracow asked for cancelling red card for their player. He hit another teal player and Wisla wrote in the appeal that their player was provoked. Decision was: red card for Wisla player stands, yellow for another player for provoking.

Their another appeal was yellow for bad tackle. Yellow was canceled becouse tackle was clear and the player did not touch another player.

  8. We have disciplinary meetings every week on Thursday. Cards and suspensions stand until appeal is heard.

  9. the exiled tim,

agree. motherwell have been utterly craven against them these past few seasons…

  10. My understanding of the rules until now was:

Card can be cancelled if the referee was cheated, card was given not to the right player, tacke was clear etc.

For the foul play that happened there are no changes unless the referee is not right person to do this job.

  12. Champions League Suspension Rules

    Protest and Appeals

Teams are allowed to file a protest of a suspension, as long as they do so in writing within 24 hours of the match and pay a fee of approximately $950. Teams are not allowed to protest a decision made by a referee against a player, unless an error occurred where the wrong player was identified and unjustly punished. A player is allowed to appeal any decisions made by the Control and Disciplinary Body with regards to the length of a suspension. The Appeals Board grants the player up to two oral hearings presided over by a judge, who can choose to accept the original sentence, amend it or revoke it entirely.

Cheers mate! I think I may have sorted it thanks to Indio, I’ve contacted my friend and he will go to the ticket office after work to collect a printed ticket of my seat. It definitely can be done as when it was a ticket only European game I only brought my season ticket and they printed off a ticket. I’ve given all the details so hopefully it will work

  14. Please please please guys stop the ‘we will hammer them’ shouts?

As Paul said any win will be a hard fought one!

Don’t waste your money on a 3-0 + scoreline it’s not gonna happen!

    I take a 1-0 or 2-1 whatever!!

They have given elbows a licence to boot our players up and down the park as Collum WON’T send him off after his last red … Why?

    Because he is WEAK

This is also the same license the rest of the Orc team will use! And the minute we react???

They will be all over column like a rash ESPECIALLY elbows!

Broon will NEED to curb his confrontational side or he will be off same to Kayal

We will need to WISE UP

And when they fly into the tackles WE NEED to make a meal of them!!

    And surround collum.

    They will fight,scratch,cheat and moan

WE cannot allow them their masterstroke by bringing us to their level

If we do ….. They will win!

They know how to do exactly that best!

I HOPE for a 1-0 win and us top of the league

That will affect the Orc on and off field bigtime!

Not a problem, hope it works out for you and your mate. We can’t be having any empty seats when the face TFOD, need as much thunder as we can get.

Hope you have a good place to watch it in Lincolnshire.

  16. Aye, Dons v Gers the flying Collum failed to spot the shocking career threatening challenge by Naismith on Milsom but was eagle eyed to give a straight red card to Rory Fallon, which was reduced to yellow on appeal.

That weasel only sees what he wants to see.

  17. cathach says:

Dont think you’ll see it in Louisburgh. But I,m sure ‘The Jester’ or Cosy Joes’ on Bridge St in Westport.will be showing it.

And there’s a Celtic supporters club in Castlebar.

    The very same…:-)

    Pauloantony agree with you.

Expect we cannot beat them by odd goal due to any odd goal lead being mibberied to save them a draw and they can MiB at least 2

So to beat them we must have a 3rd goal.

My bet is 3-1 more in hope than expectation

With 7-1 as standard fun punt

  21. Guiltylurker 13.58 . Many thanks for getting back. I watched game in Westview Hotel in Louisburgh. There were two older, lonely ladies in the lounge and they watched the game. I was explaining the history of Celtic and them. Only realised as conversation developed that they were of the other persuasion. I sometimes watch games in pub (where ad was done) on right hand side top of James’ s street across from Dorians.

  22. Barry Ferguson, Nacho Nonuts and Billy Dodds to name a few, all rolled out to tell us beware the rangers backlash, etc etc…

The most telling comment has came from a man in the dressing room, Goian.

“But in a derby like this anything can happen, even if the atmosphere at the club is not the best right now.”

Sounds like they will be showing up in hope rather than belief, must be murder knowing you lost a 15 point lead and are about to be punted any day now…

    Hail! Hail!
