State aid advocates ready to help Rangers

588

Quite apart from this week’s admission by First Minister, Alex Salmond, that he has been arguing with HM Revenue and Customs to “for goodness sake get a settlement” with Rangers, I continue to receive reliable assurances that HMRC are coming under pressure from all political angles to effectively offer state aid to Rangers FC PLC (in administration).

In short, if HMRC acquiesce, Rangers will have their debt zeroed and will be out of administration with only their 10 point penalty to show for years of financial doping.

Fifa guidelines explicitly prevent governments from interfering in football.  State aid to any one club is about as explicit a contravention of Fifa rules as there can be.  This jeopardises the places of Scottish clubs in next season’s European competitions and could lead to the Scotland national team being banned from the World Cup qualifying group, due to start later this year.

It is the SFA’s job to insist that all state intervention in football stops immediately.  I urge you to write to the SFA chief executive, Stewart Regan, stewart.regan@scottishfa.co.uk and Uefa president, Michel Platini via his PA marion.haap@uefa.ch, asking them to take immediate action to stop all state interference in Scottish football.

Celtic have an excellent chance of Champions League football next season and we don’t want politicians of any colour getting Scottish teams banned from international competition.  The silence of the SFA on the subject, despite extensive media coverage, is very disconcerting.

It’s time for you to play your part in these important times.

Dumb question alert but could someone fill me in….

Now obviously HMRC need Rangers to stay in business if they want their money back so a CVA is inevitable. Could someone please explain to me why Rangers don’t hold the cards here as liquidation would mean HMRC get nothing.

How much does anyone think HMRC will get of their monies owed to them?

    ——————————————————-

HMRC need to win this – hundreds of millions of pounds at stake. Rangers are a test case for 8 (rumoured) English teams and numerous other companies that have used the EBT system. HMRC may be ruthless and let Rangers disappear as show of force to others – do not feck with us.

Declan’s approbation is a real accolade. Well done. We can get him to write a letter of support for your team in his own inimitable fashion. If you hold on until later Rancho Franco might do one for you as well.

HMRC will get about £8m all in from the liquidation.

I’m not sure how anyone at this stage could possible know exactly what any non-secured creditor will get back should Rangers be liquidated. It all depends on how much the liquidators can realise for all the assets not covered by a fixed charge and even we are not exactly sure what is covered and what isn’t.

Anyone want to come along and help me sell them??

  10. RANGERS chairman Craig Whyte has this afternoon released the following statement:

WHEN I took over as majority shareholder of Rangers in May last year, I knew I had been handed a huge privilege – and an enormous responsibility. My intention then was to do everything I could to safeguard the club’s future. And that remains my intention today.

The traumatic events of the last few days have, understandably, led to a great deal of angst and uncertainty as well as firestorm of media speculation, much of it ill-formed and some of it downright malicious.

That an internationally-renowned institution such as Rangers should find itself in administration is bound to create shockwaves, particularly among the club’s magnificently-loyal fans, and I fully understand their anxiety.

As chairman, I have been at the centre of this firestorm – and quite rightly so. I knew when I stepped up to take over the club that the challenge of restoring Rangers to financial health after many years of living well beyond its means would be daunting. But I accepted it, both as a life-long Rangers fan and as a businessman with experience in turning round companies in distress.

The decision to call in the administrators was painful but it was the right thing to do. They have promised to publish a full report as soon as possible and I very much welcome that. In spite of the endless speculation and attempts at character assassination by certain sections of the media, I am 100% confident that the administrators’ report will prove that every penny that has come in and gone out of Rangers has been properly accounted for. And I wish to state categorically for the record now that I personally have not taken a single penny out of Rangers since I became chairman and have paid all my expenses from my own funds.

Today I learned that my predecessor, Alastair Johnston, has urged the Crown Office to order an investigation into my takeover of the club. Again, I have absolutely nothing to fear because any fair investigation will prove that I have always acted in the best interests of Rangers and been involved in no criminal wrong-doing whatsoever.

While the administrators get on with their work, it is only right that they are given the time and space they require to complete their task. That is why I have decided to take a step back from events so that I do not become a distraction to either that process or to Ally McCoist and the players.

Regrettably, I will not be attending tomorrow’s match against Kilmarnock. Although I would dearly love to be at Ibrox for the game, my priority is, and will continue to be, to assist the administrators in any way I can to bring this process to as speedy a conclusion as possible.

Painful though it is for all concerned, administration now gives Rangers a fighting chance – a welcome breathing space – to fix major structural problems that will allow the club to grow and prosper again both on and off the field.

So I send Ally McCoist and the team my very best wishes for tomorrow. And I will end by simply saying to Rangers fans: I know that tomorrow you will prove why you are the best football fans in the world.

Statement from joint administrator David Whitehouse of Duff & Phelps:

CRIAG WHYTE has co-operated with us since our appointment as administrators and we believe his announcement brings further stability to the situation as we conduct the administration of Rangers’ business.

As administrators we will continue to ensure the Club’s business is run seamlessly as a plan to exit administration is developed.

THERE IS NO FEASIBLE VIABLE ACCEPTABLE POSSIBLE BUSINESS PLAN AVAILABLE THAT WILL ALLOW THE HUNS TO PAY THEIR DEBT BACK OVER A PERIOD OF TIME

That is not entirely true my friend… don’t rule out the possibility that somewhere out there is a true and compassionate hun who, if he won the Euro Lotto would forward all his winnings to the Save the Rangers Fund, administered by Craig Whyte and his neighbour Lord Lucan.

  13. This latest action by Whyte is just another step in a carefully choreographed dance which was planned ages ago.

We’ve got to hope that HMRC are up to the task.

  14. Why are you all so angry? It is abnormal. You are not normal human beings to be behaving like morons. YOU will have everyone thinking all sellik supporters are stupid.

  15. E-mail sent and cc’d to UEFA

    Dear Mr Regan,

It is with some dismay that I have learnt there may be governmental intervention in trying to negate Rangers FC’s not inconsiderable debt to HMRC. As a UK taxpayer ( who owes nothing to HMRC) I believe that this sum should be recovered in it’s entirety.

I am led to believe that this is against FIFA and UEFA regulations and could impact on the involvement of Scottish football clubs in future European competitions as well as the national team’s involvement in European and International competitions.

I would, therefore, request for the sake of the future of Scottish football not to allow this to happen. It could eventually lead to the break up of the Scottish premier league with the larger clubs applying to play in leagues outwith the Scottish border and ultimately the demise of Scottish football altogether.

    Yours sincerely,

  16. Well the BBC can wipe the seat from their brow, no court barney with Craig, Lord Lucan’s new drinking buddie. Caracas is hot this time of year, don’t forget the Factor 50 Craig.

    Translated …

“I have no intention of being within a hundred miles of Ibrox tomorrow. Do you think I’m stupid? Those bears would rip me to pieces after what I’ve done. No, I won’t be attending any lynchings, thank you very much.”

  19. With Craig Whyte not going to the match tomorrow, can the administrators sell his ticket?

  20. Awe_naw – There is one tax payback plan available over a reasonable period of time wherein easy to manage payments become due and are managed in an efficient manner aligned to your company’s cash flow, a payment plan which is available to all UK businesses.

It’s called your quarterly tax return, and rangers have already defaulted on it.

  21. HMRC have a public duty to collect taxes, they have an obligation to pursue those who do not pay their taxes, from a government perspective the consequences of HMRC not doing so does not bear thinking about,

whether its public service monies or private service monies that are owed is really irrelevant, the monies are required to run the country,

a certain NHS Board in Scotland has in real terms through budget cuts to find £44 million pounds in “savings” that saving requirement was placed upon it by none other than mr salmonds government, as mr slamond has said a sensible approach should be taken in relation to outstanding debts, particularly it seems where those debts pose the risk of the possible extinction of an historic institution, there is no greater institution than the NHS

so rather than go through service and staff cuts id suggest the rangers and alex salmond option would be the way forward, its brilliantly simple,

dont hand over any taxes for a set period of time.

Now why didnt anyone else think of that?
