The prospect tomorrow is to move 12 points ahead with only 12 points available to others. Win, and 8-in-a-row could be real by 17:00 on Sunday, after our two nearest rivals face each other.
While the championship is all but decided, Killie have everything to play for with four games remaining. A win would see them go fourth, for a day at least, and into a Europa League. Whereas a defeat could see Hibs close the gap below them to just two points. Whatever occupies the minds of Celtic players, Kilmarnock will be there battling for a win.
Kilmarnock have mastered the art of defending in recent weeks, conceding only twice in seven games, most recently as the haemorrhaged players to a flurry of red cards against Aberdeen. Steve Clarke will have watched how lesser teams have tightened up against us, successfully inhabiting our goals for column.
Kilmarnock’s two central defenders against Aberdeen, Broadfoot and Findlay, were sent off and are suspended tomorrow. While this will provide encouragement to Celtic, it will convince Clarke to pack his defence ever-tighter.
There’s another thing. We do not often draw 0-0 twice in consecutive league games, but after Livingston and Hibs kept us at bay, this is where we find ourselves. It has been 95 years since we drew three consecutive league games 0-0. Let’s just put the ball in the net and avoid disturbing the record books tomorrow.

I think historically, that is to say over the last decade or so, our youth development programme has been very successful. In the current team, when everyone is fit, amongst the first picks would be James Forrest, Calum McGregor, and Kieran Tierney. That’s over 25% of our top team. In fact those three could be described as our “star players”. How much would those three players cost us if we wanted to buy them, in the current market? I don’t know, but I know that Celtic would never spend the kind of transfer fees involved.
Currently a certain starter is also Kris Ajer, who although not here all of his life, is a product of our Youth System. In recent seasons Ewan and Liam Henderson, Anthony Ralston, Mikey Johnston, Calvin Miller and Jack Aitchison have all featured in our first team. Liam Henderson looks like a terrific prospect to me, and Ralston and Johnston may yet carve out a career at Celtic.
Looking further back, Aiden McGeady was a terrific player for us, and secured a transfer fee of around £10m. Shaun Maloney and Steven McManus played many games for the club. Tony Watt scored the most famous goal in our modern history. We also have had useful contributions from Dylan McGeogh, Niall McGinn and Charlie Mulgrew, John Kennedy, and Darnel Fisher. There are others I am sure.
It seems like a successful programme to me.

Scottish Cup final Ticket Information

IT has been announced that Celtic are to receive a 50% allocation of tickets for the forthcoming Scottish Cup final against Hearts at Hamden on May 25, 2019.
As always, Celtic endeavoured to secure more tickets for the match. However, we were informed by the SFA that these arrangements are to be put in place.
Tickets for the match will be balloted amongst those Celtic season ticket holders who are part of our Home Cup Ticket Scheme and who purchased tickets for the Scottish Cup semi-final against Aberdeen (April 14), and whose payment was taken via the Scheme for the home cup matches versus Airdrie (January 19) and St Johnstone (February 10).
Everyone who qualifies on this basis will be entered into the random ballot on an individual basis to ensure that each supporter has an equal opportunity of securing a ticket.
We will update the club website with sales arrangements for this match early next week.
Sure Findlay is suspended tomorrow ?

I recall celtic winning the reserve league for years without much output in terms of players breaking into the first team, that was failure when messuring the success of an academy.
Youth development is not about winning, you will be lucky to see 4 of the kids on that pitch last night make a breakthrough into the first teams of spfl clubs. The most likely is dembele because he is the most talented.
Watch the game again look at his touch, awareness of team mates, the time he creates for self on the ball, his movement. he could dribble all night long but he picked passes and released the ball at the correct time just about everytime he had it which speaks volumes about his ability. He will become more rebust, strong and maybe a little taller as he matures. He is a superb young player.
Look at every other players on the pitch, Watch for all of the above and it becomes very clear why he is so highly rated. His game is very rounded and his decisions are very good.
other players were good at certain things but decision making was poor, dribble into corners, holding the ball to long, one too many stepovers and misplaced passes. All great when your up againt other kids as mistakes are not punished, different ball game when up againt seasoned pros.
I dont want to watch celtic academy teams beat everybody i want the academy to produce a couple of players every couple of years who have the ability. Its easier to build muscle that it is to become a baller. KT was a skinny wee guy when he broke into the celtic team not so much now.

What a difference in Ryan Christie when he came back from Aberdeen. Not just in ability , but in physical stature. Do we have anything we can learn ? Was his breakthrough due only to circumstances and luck.?
Incidentally it was Billy who signed Ryan’s dad Charlie in 1987.
Really, really really looking forward to tomorrow’s game. I was privileged to get a taste of that as I marvelled at Billys statue the other day.

Good team. I would swap places with Tim O and Eddy… young Weah to me is more of a proper CF, eddy’s best position is left of a front 3 from what I’ve seen. I’d like to see Burke there too as seems more his natural position. We have options but for me a huge loss is still oor Ryan, lost to an o field assault.

Scottish football is expected to unite and pay tribute to the passing of Celtic legend Billy McNeill across the country this weekend.
The SPFL has written to all 42 senior clubs and invited them to a participate in a one minute’s applause to celebrate the life of the Hoops legend.
It’s anticipated that the majority of teams will observe this mark of respect.
Celtic have also stated that at the request of the McNeill family, there will be a minute’s applause prior to the match with Kilmarnock at the request of the McNeill family

Manchester City have released details on their memorial plans for former boss Billy McNeill .
City posted a glowing remembrance on their club website after McNeill’s passing on Monday but players didn’t wear black armbands in the 2-0 win over Manchester United on Wednesday.
But Pep Guardiola’s side will hail Cesar in their next home game against Brendan Rodgers’ Leicester on May 6.
McNeill led City to promotion to the First Division and spent three years in the hotseat at Maine Road.
A club spokesperson told said: “Manchester City was saddened to hear that former manager Billy McNeill had passed away earlier this week.
“The club’s condolences were shared through the Manchester City website, and a wreath was laid in the club’s memorial garden by club ambassador and former player, Mike Summerbee.
“Black armbands will be worn by Manchester City players at the club’s next home fixture on Monday 6th May.
“The thoughts of everybody at Manchester City are with Billy’s family at this difficult time.”
Meanwhile, Aston Villa have released their tribute plans to remember the legendary Lisbon Lions boss who managed the Midlands club during the 1986/1987 season.
A Villa statement read: “We can confirm that our players will wear black armbands at Sunday’s game against Leeds United in memory of our former manager, Billy McNeill, who died earlier this week.”
