Aberdeen 1-1 Celtic

1425

It was an unfamiliar Celtic starting line-up at Pittodrie this afternoon which resulted in the visitors dropping league points for the first time in four months.  Andre Blackman and Mikael Lustig made their Celtic debuts at left and right back respectively, while Charlie Mulgrew played central midfield alongside Joe Ledley.

Neither full back got forward as often as we are accustomed to see Celtic play, which perhaps contributed to the disjointed performance.

Charlie Mulgrew almost opened the scoring on 5 minutes when his swerving free kick rebounded back off the inside of Jason Brown’s far post in Celtic’s only genuine chance before the 28th minute goal.  Mulgrew was key again in the move that counted, controlling a difficult ball before twisting his marker and knocking the ball forward to Kris Commons.  Commons spun before playing a perfectly weighted pass into space inside the box for Anthony Stokes to run onto.  Stokes first touch took the ball past Brown in the Aberdeen goal before he slotted his shot into the net.

Aberdeen were well out of the contest in the first half and had to wait until near the end of the half before they managed an attempt at goal, a Fyvie shot which was blocked.  Then, only seconds from the break, a long ball forward to Fallon brought Aberdeen level.  Fallon turned and his forward run drew Blackman, Wilson and Rogne, leaving the right back space unattended.  Gavin Rae ran 70 yards to fill that space and fired a shot which was going narrowly wide before Blackman’s block bounced over Forster into the net.

A minute into the second half Ryan Jack almost reached a cross from the right as Aberdeen seemed to take encouragement from their goal.

Anthony Stokes looked Celtic’s best player but whenever he linked with strike partner, Gary Hooper, the ball invariably bounced out of play or to an Aberdeen player, most notably on the 55th minute when Hooper failed to control on the edge of the six yard box.

Aberdeen’s best chance to win the game arrived on 63 minutes when Meganson evaded Lustig but shot wide when clean through inside the box.

  1. Nevin is a cretin – “you have to give credit to the Rangers supporters for turning out in big numbers to give great support to their team. They need to keep doing that”. Ehm, nothing about their songs of hate? Muppet

PS I heard from a friend who knows a guy who is related to the guy who delivers the Lucozade Sport to Lennoxtown that Kelvin Wilson hit a really poor shot at training the other day – why does Neil Lennon continue to pick him??????? I think we should be told.

  2. Aunt Sally doen’t do walking away. Thank God!!

If he had they migh have had a run in Europe and still be in the cups and the Administration would never have happened.

Haven’t heard wee watchdog Pat Nevin commenting on the filth being spouted at Aye Broke all day.

Didn’t he state on TV that he would name and shame any and all supporters who indulged in sectarian singing?

    What’s the matter Pat?

    Selective hearing syndrome?

FPLG will be calling Sue Barker PDQ!!

    ——————————————————————–

No point. Sue Barker has told Sky Sports News that Fat PLG couldn’t manage a Question of Sport Team. The jobs too big for him.

Walter Smith was also suggested for the show but BBC insisted that the show was supposed to be entertaining and you weren’t really allowed to play for draws, extra time and a tie breaker………..

    coat on.

  6. Beautiful.

    Let their misery continue.

On big Wilson, I reckon he’s been solid since his return. The hun’s game apart I can see very little to criticise. He’s quick and no nonsense. However my first choice centre back pairing would be Charlie & Thomas.

Please stop, the neighbours think I have been getting botox injections as a result of the grin permanently attached to my fizzer!!!

  8. Gscbhoy. Kelvin Wilson struggled to win a header in the English championship for 3 years

Do you really want to risk our next european run with another poor center half

  9. Mmmmmmmwwwwwaaaaaaahhhhhaaaa haa ha ha ha ha

    Boo hoo poor currants!

Was at the game and Celtic looked like a team who have ALREADY won!

    Gonna enjoy my pint tonight.

  10. So, we CAN win it at Ibrox.

Rangers lose away to Dundee United on March 17th.

Then they lose to us on March 25th.

    That’s -6 to them, and +3 to us. Total = 9.

In fact, if the draw at tannadice, we can still win it at their place by beating them.

The only way they can avoid this, is to win at tannadice.

The refereeing performance will be interesting that day. A LOT of people will really want them to win, in order to avoid the title decider.

Or there may be a postponement at tannadice. Burst pipe, anyone?

Funny thing is, their NEXT game is away to motherwell. THERE is a managers ho won’t want to take the points that day…….

  11. CAN WE WIN IT AT IBROX – THE ANSWER!

At the moment we are on 75 points

They can amass a maximum of 81 points

If they were to win their next game (2 weeks time away to Dundee Utd) then we can’t win it at Ibrox

If they draw or lose their next game, we need a win at Ibrox to clinch the title. No extra benefit to us in them losing at Dundee Utd – any dropped points means the party could be on.

Personally I’m selfish and want to be there at Celtic Park when we win it on 1 April.

    Jobo

  12. Irony if Rangers lose extra points for games vs Motherwell and they are awarded to mccalls team…..then it might prevent us winning league at ibrox

  13. If the huns get docked 50-60 points when did we win the league?

And would it be too late now to celebrate?

  14. I see there is criticism being made of Kelvin Wilson. I think he and Rogne have the makings of a fine partnership. I was also glad to see that Loovens was on the bench. We have no experienced back-up with big Dan out for the rest of the season, except Charlie Mugrew and he’s not exactly experienced.

Just found out that the bankrupt lot lost again. Great stuff.

    WE SHALL NOT BE MOVED.

Possibly but this is a rather manky dog who has always been a bit unpleasant and has taken to crapping on other people’s lawns. Wouldn’t be wasting money on the vet……….

Half a breeze block, sack and the river clyde…………

  16. its 21 points just now, if huns draw game in hand at utd, it goes to 20 points with 8 games to play, if we then beat them its 23 points with only 7 games(21 points) to go. CHAMPIONEES. if utd win its still 21 meaning if we draw at mordor its still 21 with 7 games to go. so basically any result for utd plus victory for the good ghuys at debtdome = PARTYTIME.

  18. keV we must move on

Our european adventures have struggled due to our lack of center halfs

Yes for sure we can find players who are good and cheap

Unfortunately we still need a center half

  19. just watched the 2nd half at mordor

I attended a Positive Coaching course a while back. The general rule of thumb is that, when coaching young children – and probably adults, too – is that you should give ten bits of positive feedback for every piece of negative feedback.

I may be doing you a disservice and, if i am, please accept my apologies, but I rarely read anything positive from you, just negativity. Of course, everyone is entitled to express an opinion, a bit of context and relativity would be good, though.

  23. Shortbread getting desperate, if Motherwell keep winning then when we go to Poundland we wont officially win the league as they could catch us if we lose every game after that.

    Desperate!

  25. Murdewell can still get to 78 points .

They play Sheep home and killie away before Ibrokes game

We win at Ibroke we get to 78 points so we need well to slip up and huns slip up at Tannadice.
