Aberdeen 1-1 Celtic

1425

It was an unfamiliar Celtic starting line-up at Pittodrie this afternoon which resulted in the visitors dropping league points for the first time in four months.  Andre Blackman and Mikael Lustig made their Celtic debuts at left and right back respectively, while Charlie Mulgrew played central midfield alongside Joe Ledley.

Neither full back got forward as often as we are accustomed to see Celtic play, which perhaps contributed to the disjointed performance.

Charlie Mulgrew almost opened the scoring on 5 minutes when his swerving free kick rebounded back off the inside of Jason Brown’s far post in Celtic’s only genuine chance before the 28th minute goal.  Mulgrew was key again in the move that counted, controlling a difficult ball before twisting his marker and knocking the ball forward to Kris Commons.  Commons spun before playing a perfectly weighted pass into space inside the box for Anthony Stokes to run onto.  Stokes first touch took the ball past Brown in the Aberdeen goal before he slotted his shot into the net.

Aberdeen were well out of the contest in the first half and had to wait until near the end of the half before they managed an attempt at goal, a Fyvie shot which was blocked.  Then, only seconds from the break, a long ball forward to Fallon brought Aberdeen level.  Fallon turned and his forward run drew Blackman, Wilson and Rogne, leaving the right back space unattended.  Gavin Rae ran 70 yards to fill that space and fired a shot which was going narrowly wide before Blackman’s block bounced over Forster into the net.

A minute into the second half Ryan Jack almost reached a cross from the right as Aberdeen seemed to take encouragement from their goal.

Anthony Stokes looked Celtic’s best player but whenever he linked with strike partner, Gary Hooper, the ball invariably bounced out of play or to an Aberdeen player, most notably on the 55th minute when Hooper failed to control on the edge of the six yard box.

Aberdeen’s best chance to win the game arrived on 63 minutes when Meganson evaded Lustig but shot wide when clean through inside the box.

  4. Paul67, agree with you about our wing backs but you probably saw the same as me, Commons and Forrest kept getting in the way.

Thought our back 4 played well if Victor had been on from the start then we would have won easily.

Commons,Forrest,Hooper and Stokes apart from the goal were shocking, not helped of course by a terrible pitch.

Craig Thompson is a cheat, detest the swine. He kept stopping the play and allowing their strikers to lead into a jump with their elbows.

Hope we aviod the swine in our remaining cup games.

Of course we do all realise that this has only come about because there is an agenda against Rangers amongst the country’s refereeing fraternity don’t we?

At least that is what they are spewing on Fallow Fallow.

    Listening to their match commentary………………….Priceless.

Loved that comment about Rangers being the gift that just keeps delivering!

  7. Sydney Tim,

seriously, you are listening to the wrong people. What forest fans say is irrelevant. Fans in France thought Lubo was past it. Henrik grew into the Celtic jersey.

In fact, ever heard what Aberdeen fans had to say about Charlie Mulgrew? Better still, what did CELTIC fans say when we signed Charlie? I was one myself, who thought he wouldn’t measure up.

    But look at him now.

It is fine to have opinions, and prefer particular players. But writing off a Celtic player as you are doing with Wilson just doesn’t make sense. It will make it difficult for you to enjoy watching him play well.

If they lose next week then anything at Ibrox wins it for us, if they draw then a win at Ibrox is needed.

CB is the last person I would want to lose points to.

He represents all that is wrong with Scottish football.

Well connected, schoolmaster type, big on organisation but nothing regarding skill / talent who patronises everyone but has his booster squad in place to big him up no matter what happens.

SFA Ludge / golf club / kid on middle class / CoS elder / big hypocrite …

He could / has started a war but he would not get criticised.

  11. This is a plot by rangers to cost us money. They know our gates will be down for home league matches for April and May. They know what they are doing throwing away points like this!

  16. Sydney Tim you shame the term “supporter” when you are silent during the team’s great run and rush on here to slag players when there is a dropped point or two. Nae sense of proportion ya moanin’Minnie ye!

  17. Given Aberdeens recent form, taking into account the international week, some players just not having a good day, a point away to Aberdeen is not a bad result.

Victor Wanyama is a great central midfield player, Charlie Mulgrew isn’t, he is however a fine LB and CH.

Neil did what he thought would work today, he’s shown before he can learn from his mistakes, he will again.

Onwards to one in a row. After the rules are applied over at ibroke how many will it be?

Rangers loose three in a row at home, good.
