Aberdeen 1-1 Celtic

1425

It was an unfamiliar Celtic starting line-up at Pittodrie this afternoon which resulted in the visitors dropping league points for the first time in four months.  Andre Blackman and Mikael Lustig made their Celtic debuts at left and right back respectively, while Charlie Mulgrew played central midfield alongside Joe Ledley.

Neither full back got forward as often as we are accustomed to see Celtic play, which perhaps contributed to the disjointed performance.

Charlie Mulgrew almost opened the scoring on 5 minutes when his swerving free kick rebounded back off the inside of Jason Brown’s far post in Celtic’s only genuine chance before the 28th minute goal.  Mulgrew was key again in the move that counted, controlling a difficult ball before twisting his marker and knocking the ball forward to Kris Commons.  Commons spun before playing a perfectly weighted pass into space inside the box for Anthony Stokes to run onto.  Stokes first touch took the ball past Brown in the Aberdeen goal before he slotted his shot into the net.

Aberdeen were well out of the contest in the first half and had to wait until near the end of the half before they managed an attempt at goal, a Fyvie shot which was blocked.  Then, only seconds from the break, a long ball forward to Fallon brought Aberdeen level.  Fallon turned and his forward run drew Blackman, Wilson and Rogne, leaving the right back space unattended.  Gavin Rae ran 70 yards to fill that space and fired a shot which was going narrowly wide before Blackman’s block bounced over Forster into the net.

A minute into the second half Ryan Jack almost reached a cross from the right as Aberdeen seemed to take encouragement from their goal.

Anthony Stokes looked Celtic’s best player but whenever he linked with strike partner, Gary Hooper, the ball invariably bounced out of play or to an Aberdeen player, most notably on the 55th minute when Hooper failed to control on the edge of the six yard box.

Aberdeen’s best chance to win the game arrived on 63 minutes when Meganson evaded Lustig but shot wide when clean through inside the box.

The Rangers calendar has set me thinking. We could have…

David Murray – Miss The Good Times

    Sebo – Miss A Sitter

Ally McCoist – Miss The Point

Craig Whyte – Miss A Payment

    …..any others?

JFs article at 02.34 is reprehensible.

Ally McCoist is presiding over the painful undignified death of his beloved team. Rangers have alot to be ashamed of over the years with their discriminatory signing policy, tax avoidance and the indiscipline of their away support . Other Scottish teams can feel some smug satisfaction at their demise , but in common with Celtic they have many decent fans amongst their support who follow the team without recourse to bilious outpourings and xenophobia.

JFs remarks bring to mind the worst excesses of the Bosnian war , conjuring up the foulest inhumanity. It does not belong on this forum, and is shameful. Our club was founded on the noblest of charitable principles, let is not forget to exercise this gift. We dont need to revel in violent reveries that could cause one to choke on one’s jelly and ice-cream.

    Hey lads

Thanks to everyone who commented on my post of last night. That was written very quickly, and was on my Facebook page first, after I read – in disbelief – the comments from the former TV presenter.

The guys who read a lot of my posts will hopefully know that I am neither advocating violence or glorifying it. In fact, the only reason I used that sort of language is because McCoist, himself, is indulging in it. I thought I would have a bit of fun turning the metaphor against him …. even the “humping a guys missus” metaphor is a wee stab about certain Ally stories which have done the rounds over the years. One thing on that before I move on – I said “humping”, not raping, which one over-the-top post appears to have suggested today.

My own post itself was over the top – I was going for exaggerated effect because I thought McCoist’s comments were deserving of the utmost sarcasm. I actually thought McCoist was speaking merely as a guy who was hurting … It was only this morning when I read some of the comments of the guys and understood how my own post had been perceived, and fair play to all of you for pointing out how easy it is to misunderstand these things, that I realised that maybe, just maybe, McCoist’s comments had a slightly different, sinister intent ….

I have just read them again, and whether he knows it or not – and I realise my own mistake in echoing it – the IMPLICATION is pretty damned clear in it. This guy knows the media, he knows what he’s saying … his comments, which yesterday seemed, to me, to be pitiful and contemptible efforts to steer attention away from his own lousy record, actually read, this morning, in the context of what’s been said about my own, as highly inflammatory … even dangerous.

Thank you guys for pointing that out. If it’s alright with the moderators, I’d like my post removed. This is a highly sensitive time, and unwittingly or not I would not like to think anything I have written or would write would add to the chances of some nutter doing something stupid. I am not daft enough to believe people take the crap I write seriously, but the notion that even one person might use it as justification to do something … it makes my skin crawl.

Apologies to those who think it went too far. Its an example of how words on paper can have a different connotation than was first intended, and it’s a lesson learnt.

In even responding to that comment I am giving it a credibility it does not deserve.

But I am responding to it. I was posting my own reply to some of the guys even as you were writing that, and even willing to take on the chin criticism and comment, your own comments are contemptible.

  5. Someone posted a piece by Billy Dodds – thx – he’s smarter than your average ex-footballer & understands RFC predicament. He has stated that R@ngers best hope lay with the fans who need to get together as a collective and act to raise millions of pounds of cash now.

Got to say I agree with him, but it seems to me that they would prefare to listen to Mr Traynor’s fantastical ideas & his censure of all up to and including – Celtic – when they eventually find out whose to blame and what was required to save them it will be far too late, who said hindsight was a wonderful thing?

    A couple of observations

Banner for Ayebrokes should be ‘If you’re having a Wake, Please Maintain a Dignified Silence Whilst We Get On With Having A Party………..Thank You.

    Newco SPL

The real problem with the suggested approach of re-entry to save the TV deal is the power that affords to RFC Newco 2012. SPL ….. RFCNC please accept a 25 point deduction for the next 10 years and a loss of £2m each year from the TV deal and you get back in. RFCNC………… I see. You need us to allow you to feed off the TV deal. OK……. but we ain’t signing up to that. 10 points a season for 3 years (= euro ban) and no financials and you have a deal. If not then you SPL have no TV deal.

The SPL CANNOT hand any newco such a powerful card. The TV deal MUST been seen as superfluous to any deal.

The ONLY CORRECT thing to do is to follow the CURRENT rules. Any newco MUST start at the bottom and make an application to SFL along with anyone else who wants to.

ANY direct entry to the SPL deliberately to save a TV deal is tainted, prejudiced and bent.

The SPL would be better talking to the TV companies and negotiating what happens without an RFC and squeezing what is best rather than thinking about how to gerrymander their own rules to enable a pheonix to come in.

    James Forrest

Your writing is top notch, but some of that post is not acceptable. References to rape are not appropriate in any context, even if it ‘imagery’ you seek to achieve.

    RFC

Is just like an ‘Alien’. There are no half measures. It cannot be caged, imprisoned or manacled. It must be killed off. That is why RFC must die. I have no doubt that a newco will emerge. As we get Alien 2 we all have a duty to try to ensure that it grows into a different being from Alien 1. Whether that’s possible is debatable but some energy put into THAT by politicians and guardians of the game might be time better spent.

Hate to spoil the party, but me , you and the rest of the Celtic support (in general ) Have to move on and decide who will be our NEW biggest rivals ? After great consideration there are only 2 teams – Aberdeen or Hearts (end of).. Aberdeen I quite like their fans so not enough rivalry there, although a Highlands / Lowlands derby sounds like an option, whereas the Tynecastle mob are more obvious and fit the bill perfectly. A good old Edinburgh / Glasgow rivalry is ripe for exploitation for the changing times in Scottish football, its the only other option in both cities to put bums on seats and raise revenue. We have to move on to the next stage of the sequence unfolding before our eyes and have an alternative option to the Glasgow OLD FIRM failed option.

Have not read back and have not read todays palptalk loyal offerings.

I did last night read Murrays acolytes trying to keep the nation on the same page as them by concentrating on the UEFA license issue rather than the SPL license issue.

As there is an Emergency SPL summit meeting tomorrow to discuss finance. Has the question into who will actuallly be representing the huns at this meeting been answered ?

Can any kind Tim point me in the direction of the articles with regards to the Ticketus 24m sale being deposited in an MIH account and thats where the missing millions are ?

When a 4th year was pawned off did Ticketus also deposit this in an MIH account or a Craig Whyte account ?

Are Duff and Phelps protecting the Murray lie of a 1 pound sale to avoid VAT on that sale and who got the money ?

    Sounds like it to me.

Sounds like they would like to keep the hun topped up with the 1m a month tax interest charge until the result of the FTT.

Therefore it sounds like Duff and Phelps are doing Craig Whytes bidding by keeping the original Murray liquidation and phoenix plan on track.

Can the SPL stand up to the SFA ?

So bhoys and ghirls where is this all being printed ?
