Aberdeen 1-1 Celtic

1425

It was an unfamiliar Celtic starting line-up at Pittodrie this afternoon which resulted in the visitors dropping league points for the first time in four months.  Andre Blackman and Mikael Lustig made their Celtic debuts at left and right back respectively, while Charlie Mulgrew played central midfield alongside Joe Ledley.

Neither full back got forward as often as we are accustomed to see Celtic play, which perhaps contributed to the disjointed performance.

Charlie Mulgrew almost opened the scoring on 5 minutes when his swerving free kick rebounded back off the inside of Jason Brown’s far post in Celtic’s only genuine chance before the 28th minute goal.  Mulgrew was key again in the move that counted, controlling a difficult ball before twisting his marker and knocking the ball forward to Kris Commons.  Commons spun before playing a perfectly weighted pass into space inside the box for Anthony Stokes to run onto.  Stokes first touch took the ball past Brown in the Aberdeen goal before he slotted his shot into the net.

Aberdeen were well out of the contest in the first half and had to wait until near the end of the half before they managed an attempt at goal, a Fyvie shot which was blocked.  Then, only seconds from the break, a long ball forward to Fallon brought Aberdeen level.  Fallon turned and his forward run drew Blackman, Wilson and Rogne, leaving the right back space unattended.  Gavin Rae ran 70 yards to fill that space and fired a shot which was going narrowly wide before Blackman’s block bounced over Forster into the net.

A minute into the second half Ryan Jack almost reached a cross from the right as Aberdeen seemed to take encouragement from their goal.

Anthony Stokes looked Celtic’s best player but whenever he linked with strike partner, Gary Hooper, the ball invariably bounced out of play or to an Aberdeen player, most notably on the 55th minute when Hooper failed to control on the edge of the six yard box.

Aberdeen’s best chance to win the game arrived on 63 minutes when Meganson evaded Lustig but shot wide when clean through inside the box.

ah well I tried. Let hate reign if that is what you have in your heart.

There are a lot of us who have been affected by that hate over the years and don’t want our children and grandchildren to suffer the same waiting for evolution to inevitably sort them out.

Hate is be replaced by a glimmer of hope but this will only come to fruition from a position of strength.

Third division, no less! and whoever came up with the slogan ” whatever part of my club I have to lose ….” well done sir a fine sentiment.

  2. the failed managers latest comments could be seen as another attempt to play the “no one likes us we dont care” card, only this time there is an added risk to it, thems are hurting, thems are looking to blame everyone for their mess rather than the ones who caused it and also thems who failed to highlight the fact they were facing the abyss despite the fact those in the new media in paticular gave them all the information, the added risk I write of and I sincerely hope I am wrong is the risk of hate fuelled sectarian violence, ALL clubs have within their support a section of headbangers, thems do not have the monopoly on it, but by a country mile they have by far the largest collection of mindless thugs, for evidence scour the press releases going back manys a year, pick a country they played in, read of the aftermath, there have already been messages on fuhrer fuhrer alluding to “civil unrest” no doubt any civil unrest will be down to those chelsea or manchester visitors who congregate at cessnock station, we are approaching dangerous times and again I sincerely hope that the powers at be are taking cognisance of it, we must enjoy our victories, we must enjoy our successes, we must enjoy our season, we must comrades be vigilant of the threat of violence, as some on here who have recently suffered at the hands of thems, it can and will strike when least expected.

just refreshed and saw your post, I was also thinking of exactly that “spiky golf shoes” editorial on FF. I was also thinking of the other aspect of JF’s comment and remembering Norrie McCathie and the friction between him and the “playboy”…all very unsavoury.

I am enjoying the huns’ plight, and long may it last, but I prefer the tone of Kitalba’s postings today. Longer and picture is this: if the huns repent and atone by taking the long hard but clean road back , as perhaps suggested by some FF posters ( in your own 9.22 posting), then actually, fair dues to them. That would in fact be more “dignified” than anything they have shown this month, year or indeed lifetime.

If they continue to bleat, cheat, deny and deflect, well hell mend them. Let us make sure we are there to try to ensure the passage of justice – not revenge, but justice.

    There is no Old Firm

Watching this saga unravel is increasingly fascinating and the blame game gets more incriminating by the day! The true price is yet to be paid by Rangers FC (in administration) however, it appears that they have only now realised there is a reckoning due….thanks mainly to The mainstream press running with the story from the beginning (aye right).

Am I the only one who finds the timing of tomorrows meeting at Hampden convenient on the day that redundancies are being made…. Financial governance my foot…the panics starting!

Celtic need to resist the drive that will come to clip their wings too…we have lived within our budgets so we should not be capped in our own dealings, our ambitions are different to the rest of the league something the league has to accept.

Interesting that the first two arrested under the new legislation were Rangers fans (so much for the evening up of previous legislation’s gaps) sorry should I say Old Firm fans (printed press detail)

Does anyone know what time the ticket office is open today?

The media and politicians are queuing up as apologists for Scotlands shame, this is the way of things.

    Altogether .. aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhh

  7. A note of caution. Some of the mutterings are too sinister to be ignored. If we win the league on March 25th, there might not be enough police in Scotland to keep us safe, in or out of that ground.

I’m not saying don’t sing, don’t gloat, don’t defend yourselves. I’m saying be careful. Please, be careful.

  8. James Forrest…….Sorry but funny and articulate well written as your post was I hope Celtic and it’s support are a bit better than that !

Kitalba …..4.53….Excellent post, your last point explains why many Celtic folk really do want to see them obliterated and ‘ground into the dust’.

Fights to be won and points to be made NOW while we are in a strong position (media, authority etc)…..Unltimately we need to ensure we keep OUR standards up or we are no better than the rangers.

  9. Looking forward to Hately article on Ally’s dignified comments on people, unnamed, enjoying THEIR discomfort. Would this be the same Ally who publicly rubbed Celtic’s nose in it, by leading a mock huddle, when THEY clinched what is increasingly looking like a ‘devalued’ title at Parkhead?

Doubtless, the ‘Cheekie Chappie’ would have been somewhere around when the defecating in the episode took place.

Last night I heard Traynor asking for people to act with a bit of humanity in present situation. Well James, would that be the same humanity that ‘Fine Wines and Succulent Lamb’ displayed in his dealings with Airdrie?

    The Guidi article is ridiculous.

In other words instead of Rangers settling their responsibilities to the public purse, we the spl clubs will let them back in as a newco and we’ll be the ones to make a wee skin out of it by taking their tv money.

Yeah, hmrc are gonnae love that.

  11. Lads is it true that if the SPL apply a 50pts penalty to Rangers after the split then they can’t drop out the top 6 ?

  12. James Forrest – I was shocked by the bitterness & violence in your post.

Surely there must be an argument for Celtic supporters to avoid Ibrox on the 25th, save their money and watch it in the pub. The team will do okay. It’s not a crucial game. I have a real fear that lives will be lost. They don’t do humour and, going by their websites, they are spoiling for violence.

  14. Two points:

This “outsourcing” of tax work to MIH is irrelevant. The Board of Rangers retained liability for the matter regardless of who actually did the work. And the respomsibility for advising Board members on that fact, and of keeping the company operating within the law, lay with the then company secretary. I believe his name was RC Ogilvie.

Rangers fans collecting in buckets? I hope they know that there are laws about that sort of thing. Unless they stuck to land owned by the administrators of course. But if they were in a public area did they apply for permission from Glasgow City Council and did they have the relevant consent?

  15. merseycelt lmfao as the big house door slams shut on

“It seems unlikely that redundancies will be avoided, and wage cuts will have to be agreed among the remaining players to reduce the number of departures. Ally McCoist, the Rangers manager, will not deliver the news to any players affected, or be present when they are being told tomorrow.

“That’s not my job,” McCoist said. “If it happens, I’ll be waiting outside. ”

It’s not your job to support your players. It’s not your job as their manager to deliver bad news as well as good.

Where did you get that one from?

If you were a tiny fraction of the man you pretend to be, you would be sitting with your players tomorrow (literally) holding their hands and then giving them a big hug and thanks foillowed by an apology for how shabbily they’ve been treated by the club you adore, exort and never criticise.

You are a phoney, a no-mark of a man, a man who should be vilified not pitied.

You are, however, all we would expect as a representative of your hate filled organisation.

You are a dead man walking and I will not grieve for you when you and your club are gone, boils on the bottom of humanity!

Obviously, my contribution pales in comparison to James Forrest and, whilst I am a regular admirer of his passion and eloquence, was uncormfotable reading the violence expressed in his post from last night. I think we should leave the lynch mob language to the fascists from the dark side!

  18. merseycelt,

Very well said. Any manager worth his salt would stand with his staff and help them through this. And I’m not just talking about in a football situation. Telling someone they no longer have a job is one of the most difficult things anyone can have to do – I know, I’ve been there. But to opt out completely like that is the mark of a total coward.

Yesterday, one worker at the club revealed the depth of anger and bitterness towards Whyte among many of the club’s 177 staff.

The source said: “Craig Whyte would be lynched if he turned up here, there’s no doubt about that”

  25. Investors’ Deadline

    Sun, Mar 4, 2012

ADMINISTRATORS Duff and Phelps have set a March 16 deadline for parties interested in investing in Rangers to indicate their plans as they continue with cost-saving plans which are likely to be announced tomorrow.

David Whitehouse, joint administrator, revealed that there have been a number of expressions of interest in terms of bids for the club.

However, as they revealed on Friday Duff and Phelps are seeking to save £1million per month and have been in discussions with Ally McCoist and PFA Scotland about how this can be achieved.

Mr Whitehouse said: “What we have done is set a deadline of 16 March for first indicative bids from interested parties and there is a level of momentum which has been created in terms of our discussions with those parties that leads us to think we will receive bids.

“HMRC would form a creditor of the company, so it will determine how big the creditor pot is. It could be that the creditor pot is, and I’m guessing here, £20m, or it could be £100m, but there will be a value for creditors that will then be distributed, pro-rata, to their claims. The size of the pot would frustrate the process.

“We are looking to achieve cost savings of £1m a month to get through to the end of the season.

“That’s to preserve the core business but, through any administration process, the ultimate objective is to secure the survival of the business. We have now got a significant level of interest in terms of potential purchasers.

“The vast majority have expressed a desire that they would wish to formulate their plans to make a bid for the business based on a materially reduced cost structure from that which currently exists, so that they can approach the business with a cleaner sheet of paper in terms of new investment.”

  26. Im sure McCoist meant 1 or 2 million having a wee fly kick thats not fly one bit its right in there in the face for all to see. His club and himself are on the way out and the smiling assassin says he will be back aye right Ally see you later then

    Haaaaaaaaaa

    ——

But McCoist hit back at all the snipers yesterday.

He said: “At this moment in time we’re wounded, there’s no doubt about that. There are probably one or two people out there enjoying it. Maybe one or two are having a wee fly kick. I would suggest to them to have a right good kick now because we’re not going to be where we are for a long time.

“I don’t want to elaborate on who has had a kick at us – it will just go down avenues I don’t want to go down. Let’s just say, while we’re down there we’re having a look up and seeing what we’re seeing.”

Dunno if it’s been mentioned before but Ralph Topping as SPL chairman has a clear conflict of interests should Zombie FC apply to join the SPL. Not because he is an ardent fan of the oldco which he is, but because as CEO of William Hills it would be in his business’s interest to have Zombie fc in the SPl as this would create better betting revenue. Methinks, therefore he should plkay no part in ant voting / decision making come the time. I trust you all agree.

  30. Rangers’ tainted titles. That’s not quite the case is it? We are not talking about wins with a wee stain on them, a hint that something may not have been quite right. We are talking about championships won through outright cheating.

These trophies deserve to be consigned to the same place as Ben Johnson’s olympic gold medal – a footnote in history and a lesson that cheats don’t prosper.
