Aberdeen 1-1 Celtic

1425

It was an unfamiliar Celtic starting line-up at Pittodrie this afternoon which resulted in the visitors dropping league points for the first time in four months.  Andre Blackman and Mikael Lustig made their Celtic debuts at left and right back respectively, while Charlie Mulgrew played central midfield alongside Joe Ledley.

Neither full back got forward as often as we are accustomed to see Celtic play, which perhaps contributed to the disjointed performance.

Charlie Mulgrew almost opened the scoring on 5 minutes when his swerving free kick rebounded back off the inside of Jason Brown’s far post in Celtic’s only genuine chance before the 28th minute goal.  Mulgrew was key again in the move that counted, controlling a difficult ball before twisting his marker and knocking the ball forward to Kris Commons.  Commons spun before playing a perfectly weighted pass into space inside the box for Anthony Stokes to run onto.  Stokes first touch took the ball past Brown in the Aberdeen goal before he slotted his shot into the net.

Aberdeen were well out of the contest in the first half and had to wait until near the end of the half before they managed an attempt at goal, a Fyvie shot which was blocked.  Then, only seconds from the break, a long ball forward to Fallon brought Aberdeen level.  Fallon turned and his forward run drew Blackman, Wilson and Rogne, leaving the right back space unattended.  Gavin Rae ran 70 yards to fill that space and fired a shot which was going narrowly wide before Blackman’s block bounced over Forster into the net.

A minute into the second half Ryan Jack almost reached a cross from the right as Aberdeen seemed to take encouragement from their goal.

Anthony Stokes looked Celtic’s best player but whenever he linked with strike partner, Gary Hooper, the ball invariably bounced out of play or to an Aberdeen player, most notably on the 55th minute when Hooper failed to control on the edge of the six yard box.

Aberdeen’s best chance to win the game arrived on 63 minutes when Meganson evaded Lustig but shot wide when clean through inside the box.

The RS commentary team – rubbish, partial, anti CFC – as always.

    That made me laugh.

Mad Mitch was angry earlier and just vented into his keyboard and was hammered for it. it happens on here when people are angry at the result or display.

I don’t think we should be too hard on Blackman, the OG obviously affected his confidence in the second half.Considering he had Commons playing in front of him,who gave him no help at all,I think he done OK.Slan

  6. While we are scooping our jelly and ice cream lets not forget there are other teams out there and Players LIke cha and Kelvin Wilson should never be near a hoops top

  8. If these rumours are true [and thats a big if] then you would have thought

rangers would know of this, yet those players are playing today?

having said that in for a penny in for a pound [pun intended] it would not bother them to still break rules even though they know, these guys just cannot understand

sport is about integrity as well as winning.

  9. Maybe Duff and Duffer’s meetings with SFA/SPL brought to their attention that D and D couldnt lay off McGregor.Davis and Whittaker because their contracts were with Group and they decided to be proactive!

  10. Big Frazer was pure beelin when that ball went in,oh ya beauty wee huns have equalised!

GOAL – RANGERS 1-1 HEARTS (IAN BLACK)

What’s that I said about Hearts’ lack of adventure? Scrap it. Carlos Bocanegra clears Scott Robinson’s initial header off the line but Ian Black’s dipping shot finds the net. The Jambos are level – game on!

    1613:

Gelboy23 asks: “Are Rangers playing well?” Ally McCoist’s men are in control since Steven Davis’s goal and Hearts will need to be more adventurous if they’re to salvage something from the game. A second Rangers goal would surely seal the points. The hosts have been solid if unspectacular.

  15. Thought Lenny picked the wrong team today for a difficult away game, never the place for two new players to make their debut in Scottish football. Far too many players had an off day. I thought big Vic was our best player and he was a 2nd half sub. Too many players hands in the air complaining about getting fouled rather than getting on with it and stuck in. Passing was poor especially the distribution from the back with too many long hopeful balls and the forwards never held onto the ball whenever they did get it. Let’s hope this is a wake up call for our Bhoys going into these next couple of vital cup games.

  16. A disappointmen today but that should spur us on to improve our play in the next few games in a very important month. We have a difficult cup tie at Tannadice next week but the team will be fresher and will not be jetting around the world this week.

Lots of options for Neil next week.

I enjoyed him putting that clown Burley in his place; I can picture him tearing pieces of his orange stress ball when he watches and comments on our play.
