Aberdeen 1-1 Celtic

1425

It was an unfamiliar Celtic starting line-up at Pittodrie this afternoon which resulted in the visitors dropping league points for the first time in four months.  Andre Blackman and Mikael Lustig made their Celtic debuts at left and right back respectively, while Charlie Mulgrew played central midfield alongside Joe Ledley.

Neither full back got forward as often as we are accustomed to see Celtic play, which perhaps contributed to the disjointed performance.

Charlie Mulgrew almost opened the scoring on 5 minutes when his swerving free kick rebounded back off the inside of Jason Brown’s far post in Celtic’s only genuine chance before the 28th minute goal.  Mulgrew was key again in the move that counted, controlling a difficult ball before twisting his marker and knocking the ball forward to Kris Commons.  Commons spun before playing a perfectly weighted pass into space inside the box for Anthony Stokes to run onto.  Stokes first touch took the ball past Brown in the Aberdeen goal before he slotted his shot into the net.

Aberdeen were well out of the contest in the first half and had to wait until near the end of the half before they managed an attempt at goal, a Fyvie shot which was blocked.  Then, only seconds from the break, a long ball forward to Fallon brought Aberdeen level.  Fallon turned and his forward run drew Blackman, Wilson and Rogne, leaving the right back space unattended.  Gavin Rae ran 70 yards to fill that space and fired a shot which was going narrowly wide before Blackman’s block bounced over Forster into the net.

A minute into the second half Ryan Jack almost reached a cross from the right as Aberdeen seemed to take encouragement from their goal.

Anthony Stokes looked Celtic’s best player but whenever he linked with strike partner, Gary Hooper, the ball invariably bounced out of play or to an Aberdeen player, most notably on the 55th minute when Hooper failed to control on the edge of the six yard box.

Aberdeen’s best chance to win the game arrived on 63 minutes when Meganson evaded Lustig but shot wide when clean through inside the box.

Apologies. I assumed that you may just have acknowledged that i perhaps had a point about tempering your negativity with some positives. Instead, you became even more negative. Well done!

If you are this much of a downer when Celtic are 21 points ahead and the Huns on the verge of breathing their last, I hope if/when Celtic go on a bad run that your friends and family keep all sharp objects out of your reach.

I am signing off now for today. I look forward to reading your unbalanced nonsense when i return tomorrow. Or maybe not.

There is no way hunnery want their noses rubbed in it while simultaneously passing into oblivion in a symbolic Celtic annihilation at Ibrox. I expect the league to be all over before March 25th.

Sorry for butting in m8…but, I think If Rogne had to get injured(heaven forbid) then, we could be really exposed.

Why couldn’t we have put down say, 500k and got the new guy on board ?

I know whats going on across the road but, it seems to me that we try to cut things too tight and, we’ve been caught out by this over the previous three years! IMO!

Thankfully, it looks like we have a better chance of getting away with it tis year. But then again, we’ve got two very tricky cup ties coming up where, anything could happen.

Lets hope this is the year that, the fates will look kindly on us.

    Hail! Hail!

In January, even without admin for thems, we were looking good for the league, had four fit centre backs and Vic Wanyama who can also play there. Why would you pay half a million to get another in when the reality was we could get the guy for nowt in the summer and were looking good defensively for the first time in yonks?

I think we have all seen the results of just spending this amount and that amount.

We also didn’t spend on the big target man most of us thought necessary, myself included. We have saved in the region of a few million by keeping our powder dry. We will need that in the summer if the CL is to be reached. Then is the time to ‘speculate’ a little.

Pps. At your age mate a saw more Celtic games that you had hot dinners

Does that mean you saw Celtic more than once every day or are you saying he only had a hot dinner once a week?

  6. Just listening to Billy Dodds. He thinks they’ve surrendered, if I’m not mistaken. They always said they wouldn’t.

  7. Auld Neil Lennon heid on

Darryl King making a valid point (but missing the logical conclusion).

A Newco would not be eligible for CL money for three years.

If a 25 points deduction were the agreed price for an SPL parachute (and DK thinks that is what will happen) then the Newco would a) be unlikely to win the title and b) not be able to play in Europe anyway if it did.

So they would have difficulty attracting sufficient fans to support a business case for a Newco on the same value lines as Oldco..

That being the case Darryl why would they be allowed back into the SPL? Surely the value of a Newco to the SPL would be a lot less than Oldco?

That being so why put the integrity of the game at risk for an unquantifaible and probably much lower return?

Rangers are a dead man walking, folk just have not come to grips with that yet.

A Newco in DIv 3 is the obvious and only solution. A business case could be made to take the 3 year risk increasing expenditure each year to match income as a recovery begins,

Denial – done, anger – ongoing, bargaiining (the current stage) depression (next) Newco in Div 3 (or Div2 with restructuring ) Acceptance.

Life and death, death and resurrection in another form. It is the way of things.

    Oh my aching sides.

The question I have been leading up to is that in the months we were on our unbeaten run, hardly a peep was heard from you. We have one average performance, earning us a draw and you are all over the board like an embarrassing rash with your declaration of malcontent- why is that?

  13. San. My friend. What results have we had in Europe the last 4 years?!?

Not butting in mi amigo, I was just stating a fact.

Injuries happen, a freak to Dan in the week, we also have Charlie and Vic that can play there.

The league is over, we could even play some of the kids.

500k is a lot of money these days, better to keep than throw away.

Just can’t get my head around the so called Celtic supporters who are having a go.

We are going to win the league.

We are in a cup final.

We are in a cup semi final.

We have a very young team who will only get better, and who performed well in europe this year, and have a good chance of making the CL group stages.

    The huns are in meltdown.

And yet so called Tims come on and slag the team.

    Sad, sad people.

  19. San. My good happy friend

    Like you I am happy

For 30 years I put my money into my club and was cheated by them

In particular,ah didnae like the incident efter he wis fouled jist outside the Dons box…we don’t do petulance..

    But much much mair importantly……..

Whit kinda professional player runs aboot wi his mooth full o’ bubblegum ?

Obviously,a player canny give his FULL concentration tae the play when he’s runnin’ aboot,if he’s hivin’ tae pay some attention tae avoid inhalin’ said wad o’ bubblygum….Right?

Remember whit happened tae Wee Jimmy McCracken…….an’ a Mint Imperial, back in the day…

    Goalkeepers & Bubblygum….Ok..,jist aboot.

But fir outfield players..No way Virginia

If ah wiz Lennie,ah’d confiscate his Panini collection….fir starters..

    Sydney Tim.

    Regarding Kelvin Wilson…I quite agree.

I get nightmares thinking of him playing in the team in the CRUCIAL Champions League qualifiers…

Oh…..and I would put in a bid for Papac. Tidy player, always a trier..and has managed tae avoid becoming a Hun.

I would much prefer having him as cover at left back, rather than having tae move Charlie from CH..

  21. On the subject of the potential that some players of TFOD FC were under contract to TFOD Group I hope that after the points deduction, huge I hope – TFOD FC (1899) get relagated and not TFOD FC (NewCo).

It would be a fitting end.

Also the issue of SPL membership would Not be pressing as they had been relagated to the SFL and no amount of SPL / SFA Ludge string pulling would get them back.

Only issue is the date of any points deduction.

Before the split would mean that the 4th game against the TFOD would not then take place – money lost to us but worth it?

  22. ok bhoys…

I’d opt for relegation for them any time.

Can they pre-empt that by going into liquidation first? Once relegated they’d surely have no claim to be dropped back into the SPL.

  25. SydneyTim-

Comiserations over your poor health. You criticize our European performances, but fail to grasp the reality of our economic environment.

We compete with teams in Europe that are a fraction of our size and fan base. The fact is that they earn far more money from media corporations than we do. On a level playing field we would blow them away given our comparible resources. The reality is we have to operate within the paucity of

the Scottish League. Lenny is on the right road to a Lyon style of operation. Success will not come overnight, but a little faith, patience and support will make it easier on yourself.
