Abuser hypocrisy, United and Atletico

939

I don’t know what was said to Neil Lennon after the victory over Dunfermline last week but if it caused him to react I can imagine the tone.  The few visits I made to the South Stand during Gordon Strachan’s tenure left an indelible image of life as a Celtic manager.

Whatever Kirk Broadfoot did or did not say to Rangers fans towards the end of their defeat at Kilmarnock yesterday, does anyone seriously think it contained more invective than has been hurled at the player for most of his career?

The self-righteous indignation some football fans exhibit when an employee earning [insert a completely irrelevant figure here]exhibits intolerance to what would get you barred for life from any other workplace in the country is the epitome of hypocrisy.

Garry Kenneth, who is likely to face Celtic at Tannadice on Sunday, today told the world he will not be renewing his contract when it expires at the end of the season, saying, “Dundee United are a feeder club, it has always been like that.” Ouch.  Whatever Kenneth thinks of United he should at least respect their fans emotional investment in the club to be a whole lot more careful with his words.  Should make for a tense afternoon in the United defence, especially if we can put the big guy under some pressure.

Big game on Wednesday.  A win would fire enormous impetus into our season.  Whatever the outcome, the game will provide Neil Lennon with a guide on how to play in the hugely important month ahead.

  1. If Scott brown leaves then so be it.

Don’t burn bridges with players because they might be a good free signing in three years time.

  2. I recall my friend and i having a regular debate when Broony and Thomson were both still at Hibs.I was in the Broony corner.I vividly remember the goal he scored against us at Paradise near the end of MON’s last season.I was truly convinced we needed to buy him, that he would do wonders in the Hoops. My friend wasn’t ever convinced.

When he signed for us i was delighted and looked forward to him making the impact i envisaged.Sadly he never has. He’s had his moments but not made anywhere near the impact most expected. His loss would be of no great significance in my humble opinion.

The loss in monies is of secondary importance to me and although not ideal it still doesn’t fill me with much concern.I’m more interested in who we possibly add to the squad and then go on to claim the title.

Many, many superior footballers have left our club and we have continued to be successful. If Broony stays i’ll back him all the way.If he goes,he does so with my gratitude and best wishes.

And he’s forever in my heart for the ‘Broony’ moment.Timtastic. :-)

I’d be surprised if SB doesn’t go on to be a decent player in a better team – I’d be equally surprised if he stays and fulfills his potential at Celtic.

I’ve always thought he was not right for Celtic, and the expectations placed on him. To me he should not have been given Captaincy as I doubt it has helped his game – he is not a natural leader. In fact I think he would be much better without the armband on his arm (and mind)..I’ve said it heaps before – but a team where he would be perfect – Arsenal. He would be the least talented team member but would give them the ‘bite and industry’ they lack.

Now, my disagreeable friend, how do you move on a player who doesn’t want to move?

How do you make a player sign a contract extension when he doesn’t want to?

The CEO who could pull those deals off, would be worth a pretty penny to his club.

Short of Scott Brown waking up with Shergar’s head for company, I can’t see how the club can force the issue.

Nope, as you agreed, the players hold all the aces.

I’m off the cot now, will check back in the morning.

I watched a interview with the Brazilian genius Socrates. He was asked about his languid,non-running style of play.

    What a dude.

  7. Isn’t libel based on the use of untruths to lower the reputation of someone in the mind of any right-thinking person?

How much lower can the reputation of a vulture capitalist, previously banned from being a company director, who knowingly bought a football team on the verge of bankruptcy, in trouble with the taxman, with as a history of bigotry and indeed of fans committing wholesale damage to a British city as well as offending many cities around europe, actually go?

    My money’s on the beeb.

  8. Lawwell’s track record in moving folk on is I think pretty reasonable. He was bounced into Bobo’s contract and he managed to secure moves for him but the CEO of Bobo Balde didn’t go for those moved (fair enough) – but other than that, we have done ok. It might be that we don’t get full whack but by and large the clubs not full of folk running down contracts.

If Scott Brown does move on I will be disappointed and I will think a little less of him, but c’est la vie. I think he’ll do well in the premiership without the weight of expectation he has suffered from at Celtic Park.

  9. Just had a wee look at our December SPL schedule.

Now call me an opTIMist, a happyclapper and even delusional.

Since I have not enjoyed strong liquids for quite some time, I am as reasonably sober as strong medicinal drugs allow.

    So here is tonight’s prognostication.

I believe that before we meet them on the 28th to exchange yuletide greetings we will be

    TOP of the SPL

Have a wee look at the fixture list and dare say I’m crazy.

PS Best wishes to ESTADIO. I hope you managed to alter your records to ensure you don’t get transferred to Gartnavel.

  10. Just for the record.

I hope Scott Brown and his agent du jour settle their differences and our captain signs his contract.

I am sure that Neil and the rest of the squad will welcome him and he will lead us to the title.

We need Scott fit and firing on all cylinders for the winter solstice grudge match.

Scott Brown , four million worth of potential. Wish you well Scott in your next team so long as its not the huns. Samaras as an impact player. Not a bad benchwarmer to have. Still in four competitions today and life has just got a little bit cheerier this week. Hail Hail. Keep the faith.

Estadio hope you are well mate. Get out of the vicky quick before you get sick. You know mrs Tauranga was in charge of recovery there for a bit and the advice is get back to sharky’s soon as mate and a dozen stout a day to build up the iron. Well that is my advice. Truly hope you are back up and running.

I’m not entirely in agreement with your forecast but I agree with the overall drift of your “prognostication”.

Celtic, led by Neil Lennon are beginning to find their rhythm and I’m confident they’ll take another step forward on Wednesday night by beating Atletico Madrid and regaining some European credibility, whereas McCoist and his team are starting to encounter some turbulence. We’ve got players returning from injury and will have players competing for near enough every position but they are over reliant on Davis and Jelavic, if either of them don’t perform or get injured they’re in BIG trouble.

  15. Question, when is a £4.4bn saving actually £600m?

Answer, when you’re a Tory chancellor doing his sums.

The government said it would save £4.4bn over 10 years on the building of 2 new aircraft carriers but it now transpires that an audit by the Public Accounts Committee have found the figures don’t add up and it appears only £600m may be saved but full costs won’t be known until 2012. The true figure for the cost saving was £3.4bn but most of this was simply deferred.

In view of this smoke and mirrors accountancy we can expect much more of the same from the chancellor’s Autumn statement today.

  20. Morning Celts, had a weird dream there…. Was at a rankers v Hibs match and the Orcs were winning 2-1, the rankers supporters got in amongst the Hibs fans and gave them a right doing and then I turned round to see Hibs score on the final whistle a draw, I was telling the wife about the dream and that we were sitting at ground level in the dugout, straight away the dogs ears prick up! Woof woof the dog thinks he’s getting out a walk! Ye had to be there :>)
