Alchemy at work for Celtic

434

You and I have watched a lot of Celtic away from home in the Champions League; we know what to expect. Stick to your task, clear the ball long, tackle hard and exploit set-pieces as best we can. That’s been the plan for 27 away games. 25 of them ended in defeat.

Away game 28, in Barcelona, fell apart at the seams, but last night in Manchester built on the progress in Monchengladbach. From nowhere, Celtic have gone two unbeaten away from home in this tournament.

It wasn’t just the result (in either game) we had more attempts at goal, more attempts on target, we passed with speed and precision under pressure. City caught us on the break to score, and could have added another, on the break, but we had the better of the chances in both halves. Moussa Dembele, Gary Mackay-Steven and Leigh Griffiths will all feel they should have scored.

Jozo Simunovic and Erik Sviatchenko again proved they can operate at Champions League level. The difference in central defence since last year, when one or other of them was unavailable, is beyond credible.

The night was another success for Stuart Armstrong, who built on a transformational visit to Motherwell on Saturday. James Forrest took on and beat three players to setup Dembele, but James fell to a familiar foe and retired injured.

Gary Mackay-Steven, playing his first senior game in over eight months, looked exhausted after his first sprint. There are no shortcuts to match fitness. That chance, when he was clean through with Caballero to beat, will no doubt haunt the player, but he delivered a performance reminiscent of the one he gave in the San Siro two years ago, before being sacrificed.  As though alchemy is at work, Celtic have squad-fillers from earlier times looking the part at the highest level.

I had a notion that it wouldn’t be too bad if Patrick Roberts had an anonymous game. That lasted all of four minutes, when he waltzed into the Manchester City box to open the scoring. Did he do enough to convince Pep Guardiola that he’ll be needed in the City squad next season when his loan to Celtic ends? Probably not. That’s the way of it at Manchester City. They will spend >£100m between now and 1 September; Patrick will go the way of Jason Denayer.

Bring on Partick Thistle.

The global scene. That is indeed the priority.

Merkel has made a major contribution to the rise of right wing support in the Western world.

It was on the rise prior to her invitation to all and sundry from a` the airts to become Deutchlanders , but she must take responsibility for the mass migration which followed. And for the erection of ” walls ” in Serbia and Hungary.

No hope for the E.C. now.

In global terms , my feeling is that Obama was the other major contributor.

Mr one liner Feelgood . A power vacuum in the White House.

Totally responsible for the military expansionism of Putin and China.

    Venezuela , Bolivia and Ecuador.

    Guerrilla wars perhaps.

The world doesn`t care about them enough to actually do anything.

If Trump is to be believed , then he`ll simply have a yawn. No foreign entanglements .

    Unless American interests are threatened.

    :-)

There is no solution, we are at the mercy of those in control, they obviously have a plan :-)

I hope The Donald is strong enough to fight off the hawks, he doesn’t want to fight, fighting costs money, he wants to make money, this is my big hope for the future.

BTW, when Obama came to power, america was actively dropping bombs on two sovereign natons, he said that he was against war and wanted to stop all the wars and the killing and the like, as he is leaving power, america is actively dropping bombs on seven sovereign nations, they are involved in many more conflicts world wide, thank feck he didny want to fight with anyone then.

    Sleep beckons.

Fighting off the hawks is precisely what JFK did after the disastrous Bay of Puercos .

Trump will have to curb his tendency to shoot from the hip or to make policy on his feet.

A very sharp learning curve. However , I think his business acumen will stand him in good stead in negotiating skills.

Whatever happens , I feel we are in for an interesting ride.

I agree that weapons are where the money is, oil and the like are a distant second, but and always the but, I don’t think he wants to fight, HRC was commited to starting a war against Iran which imo would have defo started ww3, she stated she would attack them when she was elected.

I honestly don’t believe he wants to fight, he is everything that people say about him, no worse than HRC , a might better imo, only time will tell, if a war is on the cards it will happen come what may, all I ever said was he offered a better chance of no war than HRC who told the world that war was a happening, imo of course.

My wee ( extremely controversial ) theory .

The U.S. military involvement in the Middle East after the First Gulf war was primarily related to the protection of Israel.

(Saddam had sent scud missiles which successfully reached Israeli cities.

All they needed was a nuclear warhead. )

That was the prime motivation imho .

    Obama wasn`t onside with that.

    I fear Trump will be.

  8. Do Celtic get reported after EVERY UEFA game?

Do UEFA think this is consistent bad behaviour or does UEFA have a sweep with the fine going into a hat?

This process HAS to become more transparent.

  9. Irish Songbook Debate

There are probably more descendants of Irish origin who live in the cities of Manchester and Liverpool than have ever lived in the west of Scotland. Liverpool FC and Manchester United most definitely have larger fan bases in the Irish Republic than Celtic will ever have. Can some of our pseudo provos explain the lack of celebration in song at both Old Trafford and Anfield from those of Irish origin celebrating their identity and roots in the country of their oppressors.

    The issue is simple.

Is the singing of pro IRA songs at Celtic matches beneficial to Celtic Football Club ?

    Completely beneficial ?

    Fairly beneficial ?

    Non beneficial ?

    OR damaging ?

    The next question is :

Do those who sing pro IRA songs at Celtic matches care about the reputation of Celtic ?

Do they care if it is beneficial to Celtic or damaging to Celtic ?

    Only they can answer that.

Maybe feels like BR has passed a psychological barrier with Celtic and we are on a major winning streak again. I’ll take a treble if it’s on, however, I am biased in that I use Europe as a measure of Celtic success because as you know Scotland is a cheating cesspool of anti Celtic scum shite.

Now in Lenny’s last venture the stats were

    Played 6 pts 3 GS 3 GC 14 =>last and out

    Brendan’s were

    Played 6 pts 3 GS 5 GC 15 => last and out

    Statistically very similar

What happens in the January transfer window will be telling.

  15. Let The People sing is another long winded bore the arse aff ye song – in the wrong context.

Some will say….just like this post….take it to the end and,…..see….

Ah mean, apart from maybe Keiran Teirney in the team….who know’s what this song either means or is, about ?

Ah mean, does Moussa even know who the Hunger strikers were ? Does he care ?

Far, far, far too much of a slap-on plastic Paddy element to the Cellic these days…imho.

Ah mean, there are / is a generation of Cellic supporters who’ll spend they’re lives, travelling all over the world, singing songs about when old Ireland will be free. Really.

And yet, these self appointed vocal saviors of old Ireland, glaikitly over look the fACT that, right under they’re very noses….they plough countless tens of £millions into a PLC board at Cellic Park who’ll jump into bed with the, racist / sectarian Scottish establishment and, let them throw you under a bus….without so much as batting an eye lid.

First and foremost….Cellic have to be freed from the clutches of a duplicious(is that a word?)…sounds like wan, a duplicious PLC board who will ensure that, the descendants of the Irish immigrants who gather under the green and white lights of Cellic Park, a stadium that the fans money built but, a stadium where the fans souls have been sold out to a govt who’s anti-Cellicness has had probably the easiest of rides imaginable…in almost 130 years….Cellic fans ‘deserve’ to see the evidence of, Cellic cojones in the board room…not, Cellic chameleons who’ll take yer money and then….sign up to an OBAf ACT that will attempt to criminalize Cellic supporters and, at the same time, give the PLC an easy ride.

Mr Stein theeeeeee most important figure in Cellic’s history(Bro Walfrid apart), knew fine well that, the ‘only’ way that Cellic will ever rule in this country will be – on the pitch.

Although I must point out that, seeking to rule off the pitch is no what we are all about, seeking some form of a fair crack of the whip would be a guid start – we live in hope.

Binning the republican song book would not have to be viewed as some kind of surrender, more of a mature….

…..”We know who we are, and we’ll never forget where we came from and as a permanent respectful remembrance of those who have gone before us and, achieved so much through they’re suffering and, heroic endeavors, well all we can do us emphasize the green and white colors of freedom, love, hope, gratitude and peace when we gather to see our football team….that is all that we seek to do.”…….

The Provo’s put the guns away….

Cellic fans can put the song book away….

If other teams fans want to be evil…..so what ?

Promote the green and white hoops by song….

Promote the green and white hoops by the YNWA displays…

Promote the green and white hoops by, getting rid of black away strips…

Promote the green and white hoops by, fixing a green and white hooped flag to every seat in the stadium apart from visiting fan areas….a flag fixed onto the seat permanently….can ye imagine what the standing area would look like if, all the fans had a green and white hooped flag ?….it would be akin to the, auld Cellic end at Hundump on the SCF day of May 1977, Mr Stein and, King Kenny Dalglish’s last trophy as Celts and, the street traders were selling green and white hooped flags….brilliant….I thought it was Christmas when I went up the stairs to the Cellic end that day about, half an hour before ko…the uncovered, underdog YNWA in the rain at the Cellic end, filled with green and white hooped flags,…tears in the eyes, a lump in the throat as we stuck it right round ‘the establishment end’ at the other side of the pitch and, aye,…the Republican song book was blasted oot that day but,…it had currency then….not now….let it go….green and white hooped magical days await us,…if,….yer cute enough….green and white hooped cute :-)

Get green and white hooped socks like Sporting Lisbon’s.

Singing songs that should have been shelved when the Provo’s put the guns away is, ignorant, self serving, and cheapening the achievements of the ‘real’ heroes of old Ireland….imho.

Drop the Republican song book as, to continue to sing these songs is to merely emphasize the ‘Plastic-Paddyness’ aspect of the support and,….for me, the supporters don’t deserve to be painted as – Plastic Paddies.

Fergus McCann transformed the Cellic supporters into – Cellic customers when he sold the souls to a shape-shifting development at the clubs core, from a football club, to a rich mans money machine….I wonder if, there had been a statue of Bro Walfrid at the time, if it would have been given a nod from Fergus’s cap as he passed by with his leaving suit case filled with £40 million of Cellic shareholders dough on his way oot the side door, that he tried to get Tommy Burns to leave by ?

Aye,….plastic to the core…..his soulless core.

Cellic PLC should redesign the stadium seating arrangements so that, the seats are set out in green and white hoops, green and white and, nothing but green and white…..

    The colors of…

    Love…

    Hope…

    Peace…

    Freedom…

    Cellicness…

Move on and,….get on wi it!!!!

Historically the irish diaspora who went to England were from a wider spread of ireland 32 counties than those who came to Glasgow. The reason being the ‘boats of faces’ was a fore runner to the Derry boat.

Hence why most in Scots of irish origin can be asked what part of Donegal in contrast to manc, bham, lpool where the spread is from all over.

Whether it be manc or glasgow it was poverty that. drove them and that my friend is a trickle down answer to those in power.

So your base in question is different, towards the irish and toward supporters from all over the planet who watch and are proud to follow the finest example of a successful irish diaspora at work bar none-Celtic.

    Hope your good

I don’t think in 2016 singing IRA songs help Celtic much but doesn’t mean it’s wrong to sing them politically. it’s just that we live in a Politically correct jibber jabber that’s fashionably cashable so we should play along . It’s what Peter would have wanted, politically we need to pursue more important things than songs like res 12 and repealing the orange bastard and Fenian act off the park.

It all begins by throwing hamburgers at horses.

  24. BBC NEWS This morning @ 6am.

The top story was about McCafferty and his links to Celtic FC.

NO mention of the other Scottish clubs that employed him.

I have just spent the last 30 minutes on the phone to a lovely lady from Ireland called Joanne who deals with telephone comp!aints if the BBC.

I registered my disgust at the biased BBC reporting, which is repeated every half hour or so throughout each morning, across the UK and probably world wide.

I gave my name and contact number, whilst Joanne was typing my complaint, at the same time expressing my complaint is NOT point scoring against any other Scottish club etc,but about the biased BBC reporting.

This lady Joanne assured me that my complaint and comments will reach the appropriate people at the BBC ?

I also asked Joanne if she would include in my complaint of why it is that all the wonderful charitable issues that Celtic fans and Celtic FC tackle and address, are never subject of a bbc news report ?

She assured me that she was including that comment in her report, but also was kind enough to advise me to go to the BBC website and comp!ete a complaint firm, which I will surely do later this morning .

    HH

  25. Oops I also commented in my report of contradictions by the BBC NEWS team, in that if a former BBC employee was being charged with any serious offence and that person had ALSO been employed with ITV and/or SKY for example down the years, that the BBC NEWS team would NOT put out a report on this person having been only employed by the BBC, they would have no delay in stating any other TV companies that sadly employed such a person ?

    HH

Like some before me on here in the last couple of days, Bhoys and ghirls I urge you to get on the BBC website, and/or pick up the phone to the bbc, as we shouldn’t be putting up with this !

And – FFS – it’s child abuse. A horrible crime which destroys lives…Can we stop the point-scoring?
