ANGE LAUGH-IN: ‘I’VE GOT REAL PICTURES, MATE’

SILVER-TONGUED Ange Postecoglou had a smart retort for an unsuspecting English newspaper reporter as he met the media before tonight’s FA Cup-tie against Burnley in London.

The naive scribe displayed his ignorance of the Greek-Australian’s previous achievements outside the Big Smoke.

“Do you ever picture yourself lifting trophies?” asked the ill-prepared hack.

Postecoglou didn’t miss a beat as he fixed his inquisitor in his gaze and replied with a grin: “I’ve got real pictures, mate.”

THE CUPS THAT CHEER…Ange Postecoglou prepares to answer an ill-prepared English scribe.

That was met with laughter from other reporters before the former Celtic gaffer, who won five out of six domestic trophies in his two years at Parkhead, tagged on: “There’s quite a few of them, mate.”

“I don’t have them on my ceiling, mate, as you suggested.

The verbal exchange continued and the journalist appeared to say the manager had been fortunate only to be told: “No, I’ve earned them, I’m not lucky.”

Postecoglou, 58, warmed to the theme as the newspaperman, out of the video shot, must have squirmed as the London club’s gaffer added: “I like winning, mate. That’s all I’ve done my whole career. And I don’t say that dismissively that I’ve got pictures.

“I don’t, you know, have them on the ceiling, as you suggested.”

Ange didn’t elaborate, but, as well as his trophy haul at Parkhead, he could have added the four A-League titles he won with Brisbane Roar (2) and South Melbourne (2), the J-League crown at Yokohama F Marinos in 2019 just before his Celtic adventure and the Asian Cup victory with Australia four years earlier.

THE FINAL FAREWELL…Ange Postecoglou’s parting gift to Celtic, the Scottish Cup on June 3 2023.

Meanwhile, the road to the FA Cup Final begins this evening against the Turf Moor outfit.

Postecoglou may even guide his team to the showpiece showdown at Wembley on May 25, an iconic date in the Celtic calendar which is coincidentally the date for the Scottish Cup Final at Hampden.

There might even be a double celebration for past and present Celtic managers.

And they’ll even have the pictures to prove it.
