ANGE ON ABILDGAARD: ‘A BIT OF WORK TO DO’

1

ANGE POSTECOGLOU has issued an update on the progress of Oliver Abildgaard who joined Celtic on deadline day on a season-long loan from Rubin Kazan.

The 6ft-plus Danish international anchorman is in the pool of players for tonight’s Champions League match against Shakhtar Donetsk in Warsaw, but is unlikely to feature against the Ukrainians.

Asked about Abildgaard’s chances of a debut, Postecoglou answered: “We’ll see. Oli is working his way through his fitness, so he’ll be in the squad.

DANISH TREAT…new Bhoy Oliver Abildgaard is working his way towards his Celtic debut.

“But he’s still got a bit of work to do, it’s fair to say as he missed all of pre-season and has been training by himself.

“We’ve just got to be careful with him, but he’s in the squad.”

Kyogo Furuhashi was forced to come off with a shoulder injury after only four minutes of the 4-0 romp against the Ibrox side 11 days ago and missed the start of the 3-0 loss to Real Madrid in the opening Group F encounter last week.

The Japanese hitman came on in the 72nd minute for Giorgos Giakoumakis and looks certain to lead the line against the Ukrainians who kicked off their Euro campaign with a stunning 4-1 win over RB Leipzig in Germany.

RARING TO GO…Kyogo Furuhashi is determined to get involved in Celtic celebrations.

Postecoglou, speaking to the Daily Record, added: “Kyogo is fine. He’s trained. He probably could have played the last game if we’d had a game at the weekend.

“Carl Starfelt will probably not be back before the international break. We hope because of that he won’t miss too many games, but he will still be missing for the next two or three weeks.

”James McCarthy felt unwell, so he didn’t travel with the squad.”
