ANGE ON JENZ: ‘DID HIMSELF PROUD’

MORITZ JENZ rose to the challenge in more ways than one during his Celtic debut in the 3-1 win over Ross County in Dingwall.

The German defender, who joined the champions on a season-long loan from French top-flight outfit Lorient last month, was pitched in for a surprising baptism after Stephen Welsh had taken ill before the game.

Ange Postecoglou had no hesitation in pitching in the towering centre-back at a windswept venue that has proved troublesome in the recent past and the player responded with a big moment when the scoreline was balanced at 1-1 with six minutes to play.

Jenz rose with determination and power to get to a left-sing cross from Filipe Jota following a quick corner-kick with Greg taylor and keeper Ross Laidlaw didn’t have a chance as the new Bhoy’s header ripped past him on its way to the back of the net.

Liel Abada made certain the points were on their way back to Glasgow when he curled in a delightful third in stoppage-time.

Reflecting on the contribution from Jenz, Postecoglou, speaking to Celtic TV, said: “It’s a great way to start his Celtic career.

“I thought he was really good and it was a challenging game for our centre-backs.

“They didn’t have a lot to do in terms of defending, but they had to carry the ball a lot and I thought he showed some real composure and we’ve been really pleased ever since he’s come in.

“He started training with the boys and fitted in really well and I was comfortable giving him the opportunity.

“I thought he did himself proud.”
