Appetite, Callum, Gerrard sounding like Gloria Gaynor

381

Ahead of the Scottish Cup quarter-final against Hibs we discussed our exit at the same stage in 2014 and how that despite the procession towards the league title, it hollowed out the remainder of the season.  Match day lost its edge and even a record 29-point winning margin could not compensate.

With a secure-looking 8-point lead in the league, the champions have a Scottish Cup semi-final to look forward to.  Only a point separates Aberdeen and Kilmarnock, while Hearts are just three adrift of Killie.  It is Newco who look abandoned, out of the Cup and with an 8-point gap above and below them.

You know a manager is struggling when he beings to sound like Gloria Gaynor, “I will improve”, was what Steven Gerrard told reporters after facing up to the prospect of a season which promises no more than a second place finish.   Of course he will improve, it is hardly credible to suggest his managerial knowledge and experience will diminish from this point.

Maybe he will get £20m to spend in the summer and be able to beat Aberdeen comfortably in the cups.

Celtic visit Dundee on Sunday, a team with more motivation than any side from Glasgow.  They are in the play-off spot, one point above automatic relegation and three from catching Hamilton and safety.  Celtic are vastly better than Dundee in every department, but we will have to match them in appetite or suffer the consequences.

Neil Lennon suggested Callum McGregor may feature on Sunday.  Our creative resources have been severely depleted with the absence of Callum, Ryan Christie and Tom Rogic.  The latter two may be back for the semi-final, but we will need Callum fit and ready for games before then.

All about opinions. When I first tried the American version I too thought it was poor, as the first series is basically the same script as the UK one. But I was told by a few folk to give it another go, which I did. Absolutely loved all 9 or 10 series.

  2. Some quotes from Aberdeen vice-chairman , Dave Cormack, in an interview with Roger Mitchell.:-

Cormack said: “When you have Celtic with over £100m of annual revenue turnover and Rangers at £30m or so and spending 40, that’s a decision Dave [King] will make…

“One of the things that we are not going to do is, if we look back to the late 90s, then we won’t speculate to accumulate.

“You know better than anyone Roger that we thought the TV monies pro-rata to England were going to provide a really good platform for which a lot of clubs spent money on.

“What I would say is that it took Aberdeen 15 years to get that millstone off its neck.

“The board stuck with it and we paid off all our debts, we took our blows and with some friends around the club we got rid of the best part of of £15m of debt.

“From that perspective there, that was costing, I don’t know, probably half a million pounds a year in interest.

“Having that available is a big help.

“The point I’m trying to make is that there is speculating to accumulate but we are not going to just go and hand over fist lose money.

“We have to generate the income to be able to spend it.

“At the end of the day Celtic and Rangers in terms of their turnover are way ahead. But I’ve talked about us levelling the playing field.

“I’m not going to give up on a dream of competing regularly with these guys and neither will most fans.”

    EDIT

    ******

    Fair comment from Mr. Cormack.

It’s a pity he couldn’t go the last kilometer and state that Aberdeen preferred the Celtic way of generating the income for spending, rather than the Ibrox model of borrowing and speculating.

Instead, he lumped us with them.

    MACJAY,

    If you;re up,

That was definitely a picture of Eric Caldow. A classy left back, devoid of the Thug Gene.

I see Rod was at his funeral.

He was on the LATE,LATE SHOW, last night and was superb.

Among other stuff, he discussed Grace, how he felt when he heard it and how he went about learning more of the story.

He sang a chorus with the audience and unknown to him, the composers of Grace were in the audience.

He had a cuddle and a chat with them.

Before he left, the host presented him with a copy of the poems of Joseph Mary Plunkett. published in 1916.

On top of the reception he got from the audience, this proved too much for a clearly overcome Celtic man.

Hopefully, some has Youtubed the segment/

  4. SFtBs @ 12:15 PM,

Chairbhoy- so there are no genuine, as opposed to satirical, examples of unbalanced Board adulation??

Well are you being deliberately obtuse – that’s the opposite of what I said…

There are examples of course but I’m not going to use them…

Everyone who has been on this board for any length of time knows about the PLC Board debate…

So the fact is if you read some posters you’d get the distinct impression that the Celtic PLC Board are doing a great job of running Celtic Football Club. They are not.

Celtic Football Club are performing way below their potential, yet you’ll get folk on here making excuses for these failures and saying the Board are doing a great job…

Why are they saying this when clearly the PLC Board are failing every aspect of the Football Club?

And no I’m not and do not need to point fingers…

Just watched the manager ‘s presser on Celtic TV.

Not for me and I switched off before it finished.

He spoke about everything but Celtic: the Sevco game in a couple of weeks, Liverpool and VVD, refs phoning Gerrard.

Say what you like about him, Rogers had no truck with all that. His focus was always on Celtic and the next game. He remained aloof and detached from the SMSM. NL seems happy to be part of the circus.

Make no mistake, we can easily throw this away.

Enjoyed a good laugh with my brother at Cappielow on Monday for the 3-2 win over Hearts. Fans were in good fettle.

Celts started Ross McLaughlin in midfield and he kept his place for the Glasgow Cup 4-0 win over Thistle on Thursday. Quite an achievement for a player working back from two years injured. Well played, Ross.

Top shift all game from Armstrong Okoflex and Wallace Duffy.

Feruz may have choosen join Chelsea in order to secure his families financial future. I’m sure there was much more money in London than Glasgow. Certainly I can understand acting immediately for this security rather than waiting for that security sometime the future. I say this knowing as little as I do about the life of his family as refugees. Perhaps ill advised by footballing agents but well advised by his families experience up to that time.

100% agree with that. The manage/caretaker of Celtic should be only be interested in us.

I dread to think what is ahead of us if our club’s ambition only stretches to Neil.

Torn on this one. I’d normally side with Ireland but Scotland will get pumped so unless you want England to win the Six Nations you need to cheer for Wales.
