Ashley could fulfil Tarantino vision

948

Did Dave King honestly say there would be a “forensic investigation” before newco, under his control, would repay Mike Ashley’s £10m loan?  This, before the second tranche of the loan, which the club will need to meet payroll, is paid, and while Ashley could acquire an array of property and IP assets by simply not transferring the money when expected.

Unnecessarily provoking the source of short-term finance your club is dependent on is a bizarre tactic.

If it is indeed “the end” for the current newco board, as King promises, said board have a matter of weeks to secure whatever assets they can for those who have previously invested in the club and provided loans.

The crux of King’s comments are reported as:

“Would we pay [Ashley] immediately, I don’t think so no. We would complete a forensic investigation.

“If David Somers’ indication is correct that there has been some malfeasance then it is possible that the club would have a claim then I would attach the money and make a claim.

“If any individuals behaved improperly then it is important that they are held accountable.”

There’s a scene in Pulp Fiction when an unfortunate predator, “Z”, is informed that some African Americans are about to “Get medieval on his ass”.  We don’t get to see what this means but stay tuned, between now and the EGM, Mike Ashley might just provide a demonstration of what Tarantino had in mind.

Remember, Ashley is not at Ibrox because he fancies being the next David Murray.  He is not interested in the godforsaken world of having to run a football club in Glasgow, he’s happy to allow others to carry this burden.

He may well allow King to ‘win’ the EGM, but the spoils of victory will be very much on his terms.  Trying hard not to imagine Paul Murray in a leather mask now.

Today is World Cancer Day.  This disease has taken too many from the blog already, not to mention millions across the globe.  There is a lot of good news, though.  Progress is being made, but many in the developing world need access to simple preventative treatments, methodologies and information.

The preventative message still needs to get through to a great many in the developing world, before it’s too late.  Here’s a video outlining where the battle is at the moment:

Having chuckled shamelessly at the monkey jokes, I have to say that I am uncomfortable with the use of that term for Sevcoites. I well remember many of them calling the Argentinian soldiers the very same word during the Falklands War. I hated the term. There was also a huge stushie during the 1980s in the USA when the top American Football commentator (his name escapes me) referred to one of the Miami Dolphins wide receivers as a ‘monkey’ . I believe he was as he suggested that he wassking a reference to his athleticism when he used the term but it was the last word that should have been used to describe a black American whether intended as a compliment or in a derogatory way. I hope we will drop usage of it. Continuing to do so will backfire on us and will be used against us.

    ——————————-

But we’re not directing this at a black athlete – we’re directing it at sevco fans. There is no racial element of any kind attached this (very tame) jibe. Can you explain your attaching a racial tone to this?

  2. Have all the laughs you want about monkeys, for some I understand it’s cathartic after bearing their hatred for so long.

I agree with TheOrigonalSadiesBhoy, however, it will certainly come back to haunt us. And if nothing else tarnishes the fine reputation of Celtic supporters across Europe with the fans of other clubs.

  3. Has the term ‘ hun’ or ‘ monkey ‘ been outlawed as being racist or sectarian?

    Not sure.

Either way I ain’t keen on describing anyone as a monkey.

However, the moral outrage is incredible from some RM as reported on here.

I certainly object to thousands of Sevconian voices wading up to their knees in my blood.

What a verminous shower they are

I have no rational reason for this but it is doing my head in.

In the United States for example, any banner of this nature at a sporting event would be likely to cause a furore, perhaps even a riot, or two.

Any business, or commercial entity looking at partnering with Celtic would be certain to take this into account if enough noise is made about it.

The evolution banner was regarded as another classic Green Brigade banner so why does the latest cause such consternation

I sometimes feel we on Cqn are too busy looking to apologise for things that aren’t even out there.

  9. Wouldn’t use the term monkey myself and I’ve stopped calling them the H thing as well.

That said I’m pretty sure the term used to be interchangeable – we were fenian monkeys and they were the other type. we both refer to each other as animals and so on. Not nice, not clever but I do have to agree that people are increasingly easily offended and it is a distraction from the stuff that really should offend us.

But this stance leads us to some uncomfortable truths. If we reserve the right to offend by referring to people as monkeys and ‘huns’ then to some extent we have to accept that the Sevco folks, in the context of a football match, might have to be allowed to call us similar.

I’m not talking about anti Irish racism or wanting to wade in our blood or have intimate knowledge of the Pope, but if I was to get called a Timmy Animal or various sweary words then so be it.

I’ve shouted often enough at players that they are dirty animals and opposition fans in the same manner in the context of games. It’s part and parcel – but I have to accept that some might attack me verbally along the same lines.

And by the way – if I thought that by ‘fenian’ a Sevconian meant that I believed in radical Irish republican values then I’d be delighted and not offended. Unless he was doing it while kicking the crap out of me! I am after all something of a fenian……

The US is a different culture – one that has enormous problems with race on the basis of it’s recent political history. I don’t see many riots at Hartlepool FC when visiting fans taunt them?

Re: commercials – somebody better tell U.S. business hockeymonkey.com – it might affect their sales.

To repeat – there is no racial element to this – other than the one the RST are desperate to attach to it. To any thinking person, this says more about their mindset than ours.

I agree for Celtic fans, especially in Scotland, the banner is funny and hits the nail on the head.

I’m not make apologies for the banner, or the intent. However, you have to put it in context with those who have no knowledge of the history of der hun.

Neutrals observing from the outside just see the literal meaning of the wording and draw their own conclusions.

Others already do make judgements – they see a guy in a Celtic top and think “taig”, “fenian bastard”, “IRA scum”, etc. So inflatable monkeys at the football are the least of Scotland’s problems. Let’s get real. What worries me more is Celtic fans feeling nervous about an inflatable monkey because they think there’s something racial going on? Never heard such nonsense!

What a furore over the term monkey and at the same time an acceptance of Mhankey, taig, Fenian, pape and various shades of paedo. Sometimes I see the influence of the wider Scottish media on the views of even the educated parts of our support. Try shouting the other side down before turning on your own.
