At least one club will be supported through and through

1118

I can’t tell you how many statements I’ve read from those trying to bring down Newco Rangers (bonne chance) but not one comes near to approaching the key question: what can they offer the the men and women who own shares in Newco to convince them to accommodate their future aspirations?

Threats, intimidation and blackmail are all possible incentives, but no one has actually put a case forward which would compensate the investment made by the shareholders who, let’s remember, own all club assets.

An enormous assumption appears to have been made that hedge funds and various Easdales will capitulate and simply walk away and sign their paid-for assets over to a group who are regularly abusive towards them.  It’s like 2012 all over again, when parts of the world assumed HMRC would capitulate and agree to a CVA for Oldco, despite all genuine evidence (i.e. published policy) indicating otherwise.

Game Theorists would have a ball with this scenario.  Shareholders are being offered a choice, hand over your assets to a hostile opponent or attempt to continue with a vastly reduced business.  The former option should not be taken seriously.

Question is, where does this particular game end?  It’ll not be in an outcome satisfactory to many of those dreaming of ‘competing with Celtic’ anytime soon.

This mind-set should be familiar.  It’s the same one which blamed Celtic, or small-minded small clubs, the SPL and/or SFA, blamed anyone, in fact, apart from those who endorsed years of overspend at Rangers, for their eventual demise.

Walking headlong into unsustainable debt is no different than walking headlong into a conflict with hedge funds who would sell your valued acre for landfill rather than be held to ransom.

I’ll renew my season tickets tonight (still annoyed I didn’t do so in time for the free ticket draw).  Whatever happens in the wider scheme of Scottish football, one club will be supported ‘through and through’.

  1. skyisalandfill c'mon wee Oscar on

An extract from Ewing Grahame’s take on Sandy E’s statement in today’s Telegraph.

It is a tried and tested tactic, in business and in sport: drip-feed hints to the customer base about a worst-case scenario and then, should things turn out not to be so apocalyptic after all, then merely bad news is greeted almost as a triumph.

That may, or may not, explain the comments made by Sandy Easdale, the publicity-shy Rangers director, on Thursday concerning the inability of the club to survive a second administration.

Of course, his statement on the eve of the unveiling of the update on the 120-day review conducted by chief executive Graham Wallace implies that the original club somehow managed to emerge from liquidation but that is an argument for another day.

An argument for another day? Almost two years in and they still don’t have the balls to tell it like it is.

  3. Zbyszek:

I first came across Victor Gollancz when I read – After the Reich – The Brutal History of the Allied Occupation by Giles McDonogh.

Speaking post The Potsdam Conference, The Atlantic Charter, Henry Morgenthau, his humanity, (Gollancz) demanded he act rather than continue to condone the systematic and extremely effective starvation of another race by signatories to the vaunted Atlantic Charter.

    ———————————————————-

Once it had been determined that all Germans were guilty, the next job was to punish them.

“I am a Jew and sometimes I am asked why, as a Jew I bother about people in whose name infamies have been committed against my race, the memory of which, I fear – though I would wish it otherwise – may never die. I was sometimes asked this, I regret to say by fellow Jews who have forgotten, if they ever knew, the teachings of the Prophets… It is indeed a fact that I feel called upon the help suffering Germans precisely because I am a Jew, but not at all for the reason imagined… it is a question… of plain, straight, common sense, undeflected by that very sentimentality that deflect the judgement and corrupts the spirit of so many. To me three propositions seem self evident; the first is that nothing can save the world but a general act of repentance in place of the present self-righteous insistence on the wickedness of others, for we have all sinned, and continue to sin most horribly. The second is that good treatment and not bad treatment makes them good. And the third is – to drop into the hideous collective language which is now much the mode – that unless you treat a man well when he has treated you ill, you just get nowhere, or rather it will give further impetus to evil and head straight for human annihilation.

The plain fact is… we are starving the Germans. And we are starving them, not deliberately in the sense that we definitely want them to die, but wilfully in the sense that we prefer their death to our own inconvenience.

People talk, or used to talk, of the mission of Israel. This mission, if it exists, is not to blow up people in Palestine; our mission is, just because we have been specially insulted and outraged for 1,900 years or more, to be specially ready for reconciliation. I say this in no spirit of criticism of those, whether they be Jews or Frenchmen or Czechs or Poles, whose sons or wives or lovers have suffered such agony and shame that even now one dares not think of it, and who can therefore neither forget nor forgive. I understand very well the thoughts and feelings that are their daily portion. But just because this awful legacy of hatred is, for our poor humanity, all but inevitable, so much the more incumbent it is upon those of us who have suffered only vicariously, if at all, to balance their bitterness by our well-wishing.”.

  6. Kitalba

Good Morning, and thank you for the response. After your piece, I will search for more on the subject.

  7. Am good BMCUW, thanks for your post the other day. Apols for my lack of response to contacts these days!

    Just enjoyed Kitalba’s post there.

As you know, BMCUW, Frantico Fortuno is a wee bit remiss on occasion at the moment. So I’m stuck with her rebellious Pitbull, with the glorious misnomer of Angel, but a misnomer that can not be changed as it was the wonderful Anthony that named her.

So I don’t know if it’s a power struggle or if she is just genuinely rebellious. Either way, it makes it all the more impossible for me to discipline her as I quite admire her rebellious ways, and her piss-taking ways. When I get mad and shout “Sit”, she rolls on her back and pleads “I’m nae rebel mister”.

She can’t be trusted with the roam of the pad when we sleep, as we wake up to an apocalyptic mess. As soon as you close your eyes, Angel gets going. Crumbs, biscuits, socks, toilet rolls, blankets, cats and TV remotes – she needs to have them all, chewed up and un-recognisable by her bedside.

So I came home from a great night out last Thursday with old friends, well taken for a mug by a typical hackney driving fud who couldn’t believe his luck when my drunken-ness asked him if the agreed fair was enough, then I fell asleep straight away in front of the TV with Angel at my feet.

So I woke up on Friday morning to hear her whimpering at me. I looked through dreary eyes to see her on a shelf half-way up the wall, laughed to myself at my mad dreams and went back to sleep. Woke up again at her whimpering.

Yep, she had climbed up there while I was sleeping trying to get what she could, but was too spooked to climb back down.

This time, she couldn’t run away from a bollicking.

    Angel my feckin arse.

The cat shakes its head more in contempt at me than the dug, for not seeing through it :))

Mdme FFM will be back in a few days and all will be sorted. I’ll be sent to my bed and told to shut up. Problem sorted :))

  13. Re this new ” company” which Dave King has set up and which he has appointed himself as a director. Leaving aside the logistics of exactly how that is supposed to work considering there is not a hope in hell of the current owners of the new Rangers signing over the assets as security, surely the said owners will challenge Dave King being a director ? Are there not rules in respect of who can be a director? Rhetorical question since I know for a fact there are.

    One such rule, is, that you will be rendered unfit if you fail to;

Pay tax owed by the company

Another is that you will be deemed unfit if you have allowed a company to trade whilst it cannot pay its debts.

Wasn’t King a director of the old Rangers?

If so, I guess the current directors of the tribute act will have no trouble in persuading the relevant authorities to investigate the legality of this ” new” company which King is director of.

That matter aside I look forward to the 120 day report due today. What will it tell us we don’t already know? Clearly the present incumbents desperately need money, yet must explain the reasons for the current black hole in the bank balance. How can they do that? Well they have a very good weapon in their armoury, that being the fact that they are reporting to the most gullible set of fans that a board could wish to have.

With that in mind they will not go into detail. Someone from the previous regime will be be blamed for the missing millions, but will remain anonymous no doubt. It will be yet more smoke and mirrors, with the promise of better things to come. Won’t matter actually what is reported today. The outcome is already guaranteed. The fans will be split down the middle. Gullible set one will yet again believe the existing board are clean and will buy season tickets from the club, whilst gullible set two will send their money to Dave King. The result being that the division of money (£5m each?), leaves the club solvent for just as long as it takes for the money to disappear into various bank accounts, 2 months?, 3 months?, and Dave King with 5million earning interest for whomever.

The non gullible percentage will keep their money in their own bank accounts and await the outcome of administration.

And so the whole merry go round will start up again.

The big hoose must stay open. Who will hold the keys though? Duff and phelps anyone:-)

I never said there was (is) no anti-Semitism in Poland. I can discuss the issue with anyone who is honest. The subject is very complex and should be considered from many aspects like: history of Poland and Russian occupation before WWI, ethnic tensions after WWI, moving borders of Poland etc. Like every other country we have prons and cons in our history. I do not understand why someone who does not know the issues comes and puts generalization ? He was not involved in discussion, not called to it, discussion was not about anti- Semitism

Then the link (and only that) to article about anti-Semitism in Poland. Is it not better to focus on the problems of the country you live in?

Late in 18th century more than 50 % Jewish population lived in Poland. Can I assume since 9th century they found Poland the best place to live in? If there was the problem with anti-Semitism in Europe, can I assume the level of it was higher in other parts of Europe than it was in Poland? In 19 th century things have change not only in Poland, also in other parts of the world: Irish migration, Polish migration etc.

We have 10 million Poles or with Polish roots living in the USA. They left Poland and chose to live in the other place. Chicago- 1 million Poles. They left Poland becouse they were the victims of what?

Of course some Jewish left Poland becouse they found it not good place. Some were the victims of anti-Semitism here as were others at the same time who lived in Germany,France and England.

It is difficult to ignore insults and I would never suggest that you should.

I choose not to enter into discussion with Ernie.

    That`s why.

At the same time,I can`t abide “ganging up” on any individual and for that reason I would suggest just “scroll on past” any poster who sees insult as a reasonable tactic when controversial subjects are debated.

Life`s too short and there is much to be gained from the many posters on this blog who have interesting contributions to make and do so without resorting to insult.

I have absolutely no doubt that some scroll past what I have to say.Simply because I certainly don`t conform to the views of the majority of posters on C.Q.N.

    Politically or otherwise.

    Not a problem.

However, you have lived under the yoke of communism and are in a perfect position to judge “the left” in action, rather than in theory.IMHO.

For that reason,I have great interest in the contributions which you make.

    Sometimes I disagree.No matter.

    To let you understand:

Glasgow,at the turn of the 20 th century was known as Red Clydeside, simply because of the very harsh working conditions which many working people had to endure.

Marxism, communism and socialism were seen as the answer to this inequality.I think the British Labour Party was founded in Glasgow.

This is a legacy which many Glaswegians have inherited and still hold allegiance to.

It is in this context that perhaps you can understand how many Celtic supporters have viewed these “isms” as desirable. Some still do.I don`t.

Celtic supporters were often at the bottom of the working tree.Discriminated against because many adhered to the Catholic Faith and also because they were working class.

At the turn of the century,I am lead to believe there were very few Catholics,if any,at Glasgow University.Without education, you couldn`t even become a foreman.

It must be hard for a Pole to understand this mindset.

We`re all the product of our environment.

    Keep well,pal.

I look forward to locking horns with you in future over any subject of you choosing.
