Axing the Act one vote at a time

849

I was at primary school during the 1979 devolution referendum.  It’s fair to say many in the Celtic community were suspicious of the SNP due to the hostile attitudes some of the party leadership had to the Irish diaspora in their midst.

Fresh blood brought change to the SNP in the 1980s, there were even overtures to Irish nationalism.  Alex Salmond cemented these changes, broadened the appeal of the party towards new and multi-generation immigrants, and asserted the SNP’s multi-faith credentials.  He also became close friends with disgraced Cardinal O’Brien (which is no reflection on Mr Salmond).

At the height of his political powers Salmond appears to have overreached.  Something would be done about men shouting at football games.  From now on only certain flavours of nationalism would be favoured, acceptable, perhaps even legal.  MSP Christine Graham let the Scottish Parliament know, the problem was that Celtic fans were not acting illegally, so the law had to change.

The Axe the Act candidate in today’s Glasgow City Council, Govan, by-election, Thomas Rannachan has brought the consequences of Salmond’s largess to his door.  The SNP are defending the seat but one year out from the battle Salmond really needs to win, his shoddy attack on football fans is set to undermine him.  As an independent Rannachan may not win, but he has put the First Minister on the back foot.

George Ryan’s funeral will take place at St Andrew’s Cathedral, Glasgow, at 10:00 on Monday. All are welcome.

FINALISED LIST FOR INCLUSION IN CQN ANNUAL 2014

Okay I promised not to post it again but nevertheless here it is…

    ——————–

Just popped on this evening to catch up on the latest, and you have just made me so very proud to see my dear departed brother Miki67 on the list.

Thank you so much… I will be sure to let the family know, and especially Michael’s lovely wife, Viv ( aka TGLFW, The Good Lady From Wimborne !)

I believe that people live on through the memories that are held within those they knew throughout their life, and the other names up there who have passed I’m sure will also mean so much to many people on here; for me, its another great tribute, which will never be forgotten

Hail Hail to you, and the CQN family

  9. Stupid comments are preferable to making the kind of crass comments you made about St John Doyle Ernie. Not sure why it upsets you to be linked to your fellow unionists like the DUP and UKIP.

  12. I put up the video of the hordes marching in Govan a few weeks ago on the CQN Magazine Facebook page. They were singing their songs of hate as the police stood passively there, doing nothing.

The caption I put up was Scotland. Sad little country.

A few nationalists took great offence – passed no comment in the Famine song singers – but attacked the caption, which was pretty much what I thought when I posted it.

They them spilled on here to lobby Paul and when I engaged with them they called me a racist.

    Famine song – no comment.

Scotland. Sad little country. – racist!

I note that they never made the CQN Annual list.

God spare us from politically appointed prosecutors!!!

The History and tradition of the Lord Advocates office is such that at one time he ( or she, although it was never a she ) was the only person who had the legal power to summon the Secretary of State for Scotland other than the Prime Minister.

The independence of the law officers was designed to ensure that the Government of the day could not introduce legislation without the legal consequences of any enactment being carefully studied by an independent body, and the wording of the legislation itself being carefully considered in terms of the law and pragmatics.

Then, somehow or other, the law officers became political appointees with the result that the whole thing is banjaxed.

12 hours detention period without charge?

I once had a very well known client facing substantial and very serious criminal charges in Dumbarton.

The local fiscal, refused to prosecute him, and refused to allow any of his staff to take part in the prosecution either, with the result that the crown office had to draft in someone from Paisley.

Apparently, the drafted in fiscal was to be in someway rewarded for stepping into this situation and shortly after I believe she was rewarded with a senior post…… In Stornaway!!

Anyway, the regional fiscal in Dumbarton welcomed me personally when I went down to his office to view the productions for the trial. He even gave me a nice big box full of papers saying “you’ll find all you need in there!”

What I found was the local fiscal’s correspondence with the then Lord Advocate where the local fiscal wrote and refused to take any part in the prosecution and was advising that under no circumstances was he going to be party to even raising certain charges.

The Lord Advocate of the day’s personal response?

” Just charge him with…. something!”

I have had the mis-fortune of working with a lot of neanderthals over the years, who think Catholics and Blacks or anybody else who is not in their view belong here. If your not a WASP, then you or your family are a drain and a scrounger. I don’t think these people are a small minority , there a lot that feel that because they think they RA Peepil. Noticeable That There Are No Catholics In The SNP Leadership……

Nary A Mention Of A Desire For More Catholic,Sikh,Hindu….Or Buddhist Immigration…..

Have We Got Enough Of These Already,Kenny..?

    Was A Real Eye-Opener…….

And A Watershed Moment For Me…..

How Far Is Salmond Prepared To Go….

To Hold Onto Govan For His SNP Deputy Leader,Sturgeon……?

Especially With That Previous History Of The Seat Being ‘Stolen’ From The SNP By Sarwar(Labour)….

    In An Earlier Election……

And Forget About Salmond’s Emollient Comments About The Qualities Of Catholic Schools…

These Comments Were Made BEFORE He Decided On His Latest Tactical Realignment….

And Are Probably A Truer Reflection Of His ‘Inner Thoughts” On Scotland’s Communities….
